The English Pale Campground is located along the Black River in Jackson County, 1 mile west of the Village of Melrose. The entire property only allows guests and occupants who are 21 or older. Sites/house can be booked 6 months in advance. The main campground is 70 feet elevation above the river, so the beach access paths have 14% grade change . We have 5 rustic (no hook-ups) RV/Travel Trailer/Tent sites "up top", a fully furnished “Manor” House, a travel trailer as well as 2 rustic beach sites and 2 rustic river sites that are located along the river. The property is a total of 70 acres, which includes the 4+ acre beach, a mile of river front and trails through the woods that connect them all. IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: The river edge erosion wall suffered extensive damage. We have started the repair process on AUGUST 19, 2026. Site R4 is not affected, R3 HAS been moved onto the beach and R5/6 ARE closed. The English Pale opened in 2021 and is a developing property. In November 2025 an erosion wall was built along the Black River. This included clearing of a section of the forest, building a gravel access road using 3" base gravel, and an riprap river wall to prevent further erosion. Since 2016 over 60 feet of the riverbank has washed away. ATV/UTV/golfcarts are allow to operate on gravel pathways without any permits. This includes up to but NOT on the beach. A permit from management must be obtained for ATV/UTVs to operate ON the beach. Our property offers a reasonable expectation of privacy and we do not offer day passes as our target guests are campers. We are an adult only property, but not a nudist campground, as that is not our central theme. We do not prohibit our guests from nudity for the purpose of sunbathing on the beach, campsites or sundeck, but nudity is not allowed in general common areas. The first time we viewed this property, we knew we were home. The woods, fields, wildlife, and house (created almost entirely from the lumber harvested from the land) drew us in. We purchased the home and 40 acres in 2018. Since then it has been a labor of love to make it everything we dream. A campground suitable for horseback riding was the goal for W15266. This was where the original homestead stood (firepit area). That home was transported across 95 on Davis road to become an Amish home. This area was overgrown and filled with rubbish, but still had a great deal of suitable plants hidden in the raspberries. We are continually working to groom it, and eventually, hope to better level the drive and sites and cover them with gravel. We need more and better fire pits and intend to have at least one more cabin- perhaps created from a refurbished corn crib? This cabin was refurbished in 2020 from the original homestead’s summer kitchen (where food was prepared to keep the house from getting too warm). Although it may have been easier to demolish and start over, Julie convinced Craig that the history was worth it. ;) I can’t tell you how disGUSTING it was, but we found treasures like the chair upstairs, the ironing board, and items on the walls and cupboards amongst the piles of Asian beetles and mouse chewings. Our current project you see in front is the bath/shower house. It has a toilet and shower and was completed 2021. With expansion, we will add one more toilet on the other side. The old shed in front, is a disaster. We fluctuate the same way we did with the summer kitchen: bulldoze or refurbish? It currently houses our equipment and lumber, but someday, we are hoping to have a small country Tiki bar. Craig has received the liquor license already. We love tucked away country bars with unique flavors, so we hope we can offer this to our customers. Jeske Equestrian is also a boarding/training facility. We built the horse barn in 2019, and last year we put up a 60x180 indoor riding arena. Maintaining and creating trails has been extensive. Keeping up on the signage and the trail map has been nearly impossible since Craig loves creating new ones with the skid steer on a regular basis! We are working on the pond area to be more recreational in our future as well. Thanks again for choosing us. We hope to see you again! Please note: I do have neighboring homes nearby, but it's a very quiet neighborhood of homeowners with no noisy renters. Please also note that as the host, I do live on property. Enjoy a stay at our rustic log cabins nestled 1/2 mile back from our residence in the peaceful woods of our family's 160-acre 5th generation farm. Summertime here is filled with long days of daylight to participate in various activities, or just hang out in the hammock. There are two log cabins, one of which doubles as a place to cook maple syrup in the spring, a pavilion, and an odor-free "outhouse". We will only rent to one group at a time, you'll just have to choose which cabin site(s) you want. The group limit is 9 people. Hike the trails meandering through our woods, sit around the large campfire, take a relaxing nap in the hammock, watch sunset down one of the trails, or the many activities of hiking and mountain/fat tire biking groomed trails at nearby Levis/Trow Mound (our favorite), fishing, kayaking, horse trail rides, and The Highground Veterans Memorial Park (a must-see) is a mile up the road. The pavilion has a large log picnic table, Blackstone griddle, a charcoal grill, and refrigerator/freezer. The pavilion and Sugar Shack cabin have solar power. The Sugar Shack has a small gas stove and oven. The Cozy Cabin does not have solar power yet. All rentals include use of the pavilion and "outhouse". New in 2026 - outdoor shower with heated water. There is no WiFi but good cell phone service. Bedding is furnished for cabin stays. Wood and charcoal are furnished. Extra lawn chairs available. We have cornhole available and other yard games for use. All you really need to bring is food, beverages, towels & favorite book or game. We welcome your furry friends, but no more than 2 dogs. There is a $25 pet cleaning fee under extras. This $25 fee covers 2 dogs. We politely request no children under 7 in cabins, and then all children over 7 supervised at all times while in cabins. 2 night minimum; 3 night minimum on holiday weekends such as Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend, and 4th of July if it lands on a Friday or Monday. Tucked into the hills of southwest Wisconsin, the Driftless Tiny House Retreat provides relaxing tranquility and down to earth amenities. This private property offers peace, quiet, and a chance to reconnect with nature. The partially off-grid tiny house site has its own yard and fire pit, and is secluded without feeling isolated, as there are two other cabins and my home 75-100 yards away. Only natural products are used in cleaning, washing, and even the porta potty is a chemical free. Rustic and cozy, the tiny house sleeps 2–4 people comfortably, with room for an additional tent in the yard. The maximum occupancy for the site (tiny house and tent) is 6 people total, with parking for a maximum of 2 vehicles. Fully furnished with a queen mattress, futon, plates, cups, etc~ just bring your own food and bedding (sheets, blankets, and pillows)! If you prefer not to bring your own, please select 1 or 2 “Bedding” rentals at checkout. Located about 5 miles west of La Farge and 10 miles east of Viroqua, and within a few miles of countless activities and attractions. You’ll find nearby hiking trails at Tunnelville Cliffs, Kickapoo Valley Reserve, Wildcat State Park, kayaking and canoeing access, swimming holes, world class trout fishing, farmers markets, Amish shops, and a vibrant mix of local organic food, arts, and handmade goods. We ask that there be NO alcohol or drug abuse on the property. We want people to connect with nature in peaceful way.

Drive through a peaceful, tree-lined entrance that opens to a beautiful private lake nestled in nature. Continue to Pheasant Cottage, where you'll enjoy the gentle breeze through the trees and the tranquil views of Serenity Lake. Pheasant Cottage is a custom 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom cabin with its own private entrance. Our front gate remains locked at all times, and only registered guests receive access, ensuring a peaceful and private stay. Each cottage features its own lake view, outdoor hot tub overlooking Serenity Lake, private fire pit, and private beach where you can swim and fish right from your cottage. The cottage sleeps up to nine guests with a double bed in the main bedroom, a double and single bed in the second bedroom, a double futon in the living room, and another double futon in the entryway. The bathroom is accessed through the main bedroom. With 14 windows offering panoramic lake views from two sides of the cottage, you'll feel immersed in nature while enjoying the comfort of a cozy cabin. Natural pine finishes and custom details create a warm, rustic atmosphere. Spend your days fishing from your private beach (no fishing license required), relaxing in the hot tub, or watching for local wildlife, including deer, porcupines, cardinals, blue jays, raccoons, hawks, owls, foxes, beavers, otters, and bald eagles. Each cottage is separated by a couple of acres—about a football field's length of forest—providing excellent privacy for every guest. Pets are welcome. Pet fee: $40 for the first pet for up to two nights, plus $10 per additional night. Additional pets are $20 each for up to two nights, plus $10 per additional night. We have the floating oasis, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and row boats available for rentals or you are welcome to bring your own. They are $30 per day/$40 per day for the row boat but, if you rent them at the time you make your reservation and get them for the duration of your visit, they are $25 per day/$35 per day for the row boat and you get the last day free! If you are staying for 2 nights, you get an additional $10 off the subtotal. If you get a 2nd watercraft, you get an additional $5 off as a "multi-watercraft" discount; $10 off a 3rd; $15 off a 4th; $20 off a 5th, etc. Minimum stay: Two nights (three nights for minor holidays and four nights for major holidays). Weekend rates apply to stays that include Friday or Saturday nights. There is a security deposit, depending on the number of guests, pets, watercraft rentals and which cottage(s) that are rented. We collect your credit card information when you make your reservation and the amount is simply processed as an "authorization" when you arrive for your vacation. It will then drop off usually after 3-6 days (depending on your credit card or banking institution as they are all a little different!). If there are damages and/or excessive clean-up charges, we would attempt to contact you prior to charging the amount and it would be the cost of the actual amount, not the entire security deposit.

Christine met us upon arrival with a friendly welcome and showed us around the lovely place. Without any a.c., we stayed nice and cool at night with fans she provided. The sink and the microwave gave us all we needed to prepare quick dishes so that we didn't have to eat out every meal. The farmhouse provided us with a really nice amount of space that was very pleasant and comfortable. Outside, we enjoyed beautiful sunrises (one with an all-pink rainbow!) and making a fire in the firepit to watch the sunsets and moonrises. It was fun to be near the turkeys and cows. We also appreciated the cultural experience of being in Amish Country. The location was great for kayaking and exploring and Christine's info that she had on hand was very helpful. We really appreciate being able to bring our cat, who loved the layout and all the windows to sit by.

Weekend Trip to Echo Valley Farm

What an incredibly special place. From Deb's hospitality to the animals to the serene setting, there is so much to be enjoyed at the little slice of heaven. While the accommodations may be a tad rustic, they're clean, comfortable, and cozy. Just make sure you pack your own kitchen kit and bring wood. The area offers so much for an outdoor enthusiast, or you can relax and listen to nature! I'd recommend exploring their trails, especially at sunset. And the proverbial cherry on top? Their on-site bakery scones. Absolutely delicious! I will be adding Echo Valley to my yearly travel schedule.

Weekend Trip to Echo Valley Farm

Dena was very nice and the property was just as described. Nice, cozy cabin with plenty of blankets for the cool evenings (there was also a heater if we had needed it). We were traveling on our motorcycle and she was sure that we had a decent place to park the bike. The driveway is sloped, but had a couple of flat portions we could use easily. We got to meet the sheep, cats and chickens - And although the rooster crowed in the morning - it was really a peaceful stay. Would stay again!

Being able to see calves when I stepped outside was charming, and the accommodations made me feel safe and comfortable. This little lake is a gem. Very healthy with plenty of cute animals a few frogs hopping around. It was great for swimming and when I come back I’ll be fishing it too. We enjoyed the cabin which was well equipped and feels freshly renovated. The setting was lovely and conveniently close to Black River falls for a meal out or run to the store. Finally, the owner was attentive and immediately addressed any requests. I am recommending it to friends.
