Our location is about 13 miles from the town of Viroqua, which has a wonderful Saturday morning farmer's market May-October, the renowned Driftless Cafe, and the Viroqua Food Co-op, among other things. The Organic Valley Food Co-op was established in this area in 1988, and the area in known for an abundance of fresh organic 'farm to table' food. The famous 'Driftless Books' is also found in Viroqua, along with live music on Court Street every other Saturday. Music in the Parks also offers live music in the area on Wednesdays throughout the summer.
We are 22 miles from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and a bit further North, from Ontario WI, one may embark by canoe or kayak, through some of the most stunning landscape to be found in Wisconsin.
This area is called The Driftless because it lacks glacial drift, which refers to the deposits of silt, gravel and rock that glaciers would have left behind had they passed through this part of Southwestern Wisconsin. The area is unique in that the land here was never flattened by the ice that came through most of the Midwest during the last glacial period/ice age. When glaciers were in surrounding areas, the melt-water sometimes made its way into the Driftless Area and contributed to the formation of the valleys and bluffs which characterize the landscape, which is known for steep hills, forested ridges, deeply carved river valleys, and karst geology with caves and spring-fed cold water trout streams. Ecologically, the Driftless Area's flora and fauna are more closely related to those of the Great Lakes region and New England than those of the broader Midwest and central Plains regions.

Guests should also bring sufficient water for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, and tidying the cabin.

You’ll also find games, puzzles, and coloring books.
A reliable 52 Mbps fiber-optic internet connection makes the cabin suitable for remote work or for anyone who wants a secluded retreat while remaining connected.
Sleeping options include a pullout sofa that converts to a full-size bed, with a futon mattress that can be placed on top for additional comfort. Blankets and pillows are provided, but guests must bring their own sheets.

The English Pale Campground is located along the Black River in Jackson County, 1 mile west of the Village of Melrose. The entire property only allows guests and occupants who are 21 or older. Sites/house can be booked 6 months in advance. The main campground is 70 feet elevation above the river, so the beach access road and paths have 14% grade change .
We have 5 rustic (no hook-ups) RV/Travel Trailer/Tent sites "up top", a fully furnished “Manor” House, a travel trailer as well as 2 rustic beach sites and 4 rustic river sites that are located along the river. The property is a total of 70 acres, which includes the 4+ acre beach, a mile of river front and trails through the woods that connect them all.
IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: The river edge erosion wall has been repaired from flood damage and all site along the river should be available starting 2027.
The English Pale opened in 2021 and is a developing property. In November 2025 an erosion wall was built along the Black River. This included clearing of a section of the forest, building a gravel access road using 3" base gravel, and an riprap river wall to prevent further erosion. Since 2016 over 60 feet of the riverbank has washed away.
ATV/UTV/golfcarts are allow to operate on gravel pathways without any permits. This includes up to but NOT on the beach. A permit from management must be obtained for ATV/UTVs to operate ON the beach.
Our property offers a reasonable expectation of privacy and we do not offer day passes as our target guests are campers. We are an adult only property, but not a nudist campground, as that is not our central theme. We do not prohibit our guests from nudity for the purpose of sunbathing on the beach, campsites or sundeck, but nudity is not allowed in general common areas. Part of our nature is allowing discreet nudity for tanning purposes. While we target couples for time together, singles and groups are welcome. This is NOT a party campground, our goal is to let you connect with nature.

Welcome ; Located in southeast Minnesota's Driftless region of hills, valleys, fields and forests, we are a grass based working dairy farm with over 100 acres of woodland,
including an extensive trail system and campsites in our wooded acres. What makes this woodland special is it's quiet, secluded setting and over 6 miles of hiking / skiing trails.
Our farmstead sits three quarter of a mile off the paved county highway on our well maintained gravel driveway.
Each of our campsites are secluded from the others with their own sawdust compost toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces, and firewood.
Two of our sites require 4WD with a minimum of 6 inches ground clearance
to access, and two are accessible with 2WD.
If you do not have 4WD we can help transport your gear while you enjoy the walk in.
There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from Old growth Maple to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. Bring your fat bike or mountain bike for an enjoyable ride.
For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing
or snowshoeing / hiking
on the property. However the Rock Bottom Cabin is our only heated and insulated site and is available for winter booking. Winter access is walk in only with snow on the ground or in the forecast. We can help transport gear.
This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and guided tours of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows.
Children 12 and younger are free at our campsites.
No need to be counted as guests , but please let us know when requesting to book.
We do not allow non-booked visitors to our campsites due to the secluded, remote location, and accessibility.

The Cabin in a 16x16 one room lofted 6 feet from ground with 2 decks just next to the path to the woods and entrance. It has a queen size bed, large flat screen, wifi, seasonal window A/C, small milk house heater, fan, hot pot, mini fridge, outdoor grill and microwave with various kitchen utensils. There is no running water in the cabin but there is a dry sink and outdoor Buckee. A large outdoor shower is just a short walk away at the main cabin with all the instant hot water that could be asked for. We have plenty of extras to share if you need something, if not a Dollar General is just a mile away. Please be aware there are poisonous plants and various wildlife that roam freely. No animal hunting allowed. Feel free to pick the mushrooms, were so close to the Morel capital of the country. We love pets and have adopted ours which roam freely. We’re sorry we can’t accommodate yours for that reason… we can recommend local accommodations for your fur babies.

Inside, the yurt features a spacious open-concept floor plan designed for comfort and relaxation. The main bedroom includes a queen-size Sleep Number® adjustable bed, while the loft offers two twin beds. For additional sleeping space, the living room sofa converts into a full-size bed.
The living area includes a couch, two papasan chairs, a Roku Smart TV, and an electric fireplace—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the Driftless Region.
The fully equipped kitchen includes a refrigerator, sink, microwave, two-burner gas cooktop, toaster, blender, waffle maker, French press, teapot, cookware, and all the essentials needed to prepare meals. The dining table has an expandable leaf to provide extra seating for family meals, games, and more.
The spacious bathroom includes a walk-in shower, sink, and a composting toilet.
Step outside onto the deck to enjoy the beautiful countryside. The deck features a picnic table and two additional chairs for relaxing in the fresh air. Just a few steps away, the fire pit area includes four benches and a gas grill, perfect for enjoying evenings under the stars. Firewood is provided for your convenience.
The yurt is equipped with a mini-split heating and air conditioning system, along with complimentary Wi-Fi. Inside the storage cabinet, you'll find extra pillows and blankets, board games, lawn games, and additional fans to help make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Everything we had hoped for and more! Peaceful cozy environment with much privacy and no city noise. The night skies, campfires, sounds of animals and just all around a joy to experience. 🤍 Fresh water spring right up the road, many local bakeries and such beautiful scenery everywhere we went. Driving away felt like the end of a great movie. May this space always bring such healing and renewal! ✨️

I had such a wonderful stay. The property is beautiful with so many gorgeous sunsets! It is such a peaceful and relaxing place. Christine gives you privacy but is only a text away if you need her.
Christine went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. There were fresh flowers and treats waiting for me when I arrived, including some of my favorite candy bars, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch. She was incredibly kind and full of great recommendations for things to see and do in the area. She would even periodically send me messages about local events and activities happening during my stay, which was so helpful and made it easy to discover things I might not have found on my own.
You can tell how much care she puts into making her guests feel comfortable and making their stay special. I truly appreciated her thoughtfulness and hospitality, and the beautiful sunsets were the icing on the cake. I would absolutely recommend staying here to anyone looking for a memorable, welcoming, and relaxing getaway!

Christine makes a wonderful place to stay. I felt safe, comfortable, and at peace. She was available when I had questions about the area or just wanted to chat. The animals are gorgeous, and so is the landscape. Being nested within the Amish community was such a special experience for us. Free showers are easy to find nearby, the outdoor bathroom is nearby and lights up at night, the bed was comfortable, there are fans and a space heater for whatever you need, and there is plenty of equipment to feed yourself. I appreciated the s'mores kit, the bouquet from her garden, and the literature in the basket that tells all about the area and the lovely things to explore. Don't hesitate, this is a great place to stay.

Weekend Trip to Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland
We met Mike after arriving later than we originally hoped - he met us both with a smile and incredibly helpful energy. Mike told us they've had the farm for 30 years and the care they have for the land is very clear. It's a playground for kids, dogs, and adults alike. We will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Echo Valley Farm
My husband and I stayed in the Rustic Spring Cabin for two nights & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean and cozy. We loved drinking our coffee on the front porch. We spent the majority of our time exploring Amish shops and nearby small towns. Ontario is a nice small town. There is a lot to do in this area and we are hoping to return in the near future with our kids in tow. The goods we preordered from the Bakery were delicious and Dena and Lauren were very warm and welcoming.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Echo Valley Farm in the Orchard cabin! It was small, but cozy and comfortable enough for the two of us. The property was beautiful and felt secluded even though we were near other cabins and the country road. The sheep strolled by us every morning and sometimes again later in the day. The valley is extremely charming and my wife just had to do some watercolor painting of the scenery (and sheep!). Dena was a great host, will stay again!
P.S- if you use Verizon you will not have data here! Which was fine for us :)

Dena was a wonderfully pleasant host along with Shay and Lauren.
The cabin was quaint, clean, and cozy. The property far surpassed my expectations. Being greeted by a flock of wayward sheep every morning over coffee????? Come on now!
This is a place for you to come and connect with yourself, each other and Pacha Mama.

This is the most peaceful place to unplug, unwind and just watch the day go by. Needing a break from my tourist town, found this gem about an hour away and now have my go-to decompress getaway! The area around the cabin is stunning. The many winding country roads are poetic and mesmerizing, and the stars at night really light up the sky. We enjoyed how the cabin was stocked with many of the items we needed to prepare meals and be comfortable. We had a really great experience!
