Sittin Pretty Farm rises from the hospitality of my folks, Harry and Evelyn, of Cozy Corners Farm where I grew up in the tall corn country of central Iowa. This country hospitality fills the big-hearted welcome we put out here. You’ll feel the storied old farm feel of our perch on the ridge looking West over farm and woods, and you’ll see some of the prettiest sunsets around. Come on up to the ridge and join us for Friday wood-fired pizza, live music on our outdoor Big Wheel stage, or up in the loft of our climate controlled party barn. Our commercial kitchen and staff can cater your event, or rent the kitchen and ply your own foodie talent. We have enough guest cabins to sleep up to eighteen. Weddings, concerts, parties, pop up restaurants, fundraisers: Rent our spaces to make your own heartfelt memories on the ridge top 6 miles from Viroqua! Sittin Pretty is the community outreach arm of our non-profit organization, Further Along, Inc., and works in tandem with our youth adventure and service-learning arm, the Merry Green Marvel. All proceeds from Sittin Pretty go to support our non-profit and other local non-profits. Read more about our story here: https://www.sittinprettyfarm.org/story

Little, Tiny Home at Sittin Pretty

Tiny home · Sleeps 4
Little, one of four rental cabins at Sittin Pretty Farms, is tucked into the woods providing a special place to retreat. The home, which Steve built on site and finished in 2021 with the help of our wonderful Amish neighbors was a labor of love and embodies the simple elegance and character of the Driftless locale. Steve chose local woods like red cedar, cherry, knotty pine, red oak, black walnut and maple to create an inviting, restorative space. ~450 square feet includes two open sleeping lofts and a full kitchen and bathroom. Note that the lofts may present accessibility issues as one loft has a steep stair case and the other a ladder. Also the ceilings above the loft are low. With plenty of windows including a large stained glass the home sparkles with natural light gathering the morning sun and comforted by the shade of the woods in the afternoon. Guest access There is one dedicated parking spot for this home, though room for a second car can be arranged upon request. The hard top county road we're on is great for a touring bike. Walk to neighboring Amish farms.

The Granary at Sittin Pretty Farm

Tiny home · Sleeps 6 · 2 bedrooms · 3 beds · 1 toilet
The Granary is the newest addition to our rental cabins here at Sittin Pretty Farm where we celebrate the gathering of folks for retreat, contemplation, celebration, and the decency that comes when people of many places and walks of life come together with open hearts full of goodwill to our land and community. The Granary conversion meets the modern with amenities that give comfort and ease. At the same time the artful renovation gives a soulful feel of yesteryear to this country hospitality. Near Viroqua, the Granary sits on a ridge top of this hill country among Amish farms and some of the prettiest sunsets around. You'll hear the clip clop of the horse and buggy folk on the road nearby! Traffic is usually minimal and quiets after sunset. Expect bigger and louder traffic during planting and harvesting seasons. When I'm sitting in the cabin, I can't help but feel the stories that gather from the hard work and joys and griefs that go with the many cycles of planting and harvesting and feeding the dairy cows that this Granary has seen. We tried to preserve the original grace of this 100+yo farm building by leaving its rustic nature--you'll see the original floor joists in the ground-level ceiling as well as the well-worn original pine flooring and weathered exterior siding--while adding touches of elegance and modern comforts. And, though this is a rustic farm building, we tightened things up with insulation and installed new doors and windows (we love the play of light that streams into the building through all the new windows as well as the views they provide of the contours and hills of this beautiful Driftless landscape) to create a snug and beautiful place to sit, sleep, and restore. Please note that some may find the steps to the second floor as well as the ladder to the third level sleeping loft challenging. Also, once up in the loft the ceiling is low which requires bending over or crawling on knees.

Tin Terra w/Sauna at Sittin Pretty

Cabin · Sleeps 8
Tin Terra is one of four rental cabins here at Sittin Pretty Farm, six miles from the attractions of "Viroqua hip" yet nestled in the plain and slow of the Amish with roadside stands offering fresh eggs, produce, honey, jams, and even pies! Steve built Tin Terra on site and finished it in 2019 with the help of our wonderful Amish neighbors. It truly was a labor of love and we are so glad to be able to share it with you. The cabin is an artful rendering of home incorporating the patina of old barn tin and weathered boards accented with the elegance of finely-crafted local woods including cherry, red oak, hickory, and black walnut, creating a space that is at once old and full of character and new and invigorating. The ~900 square feet of artistic, elegant simplicity includes an open loft with two beds and a desk/studio area; a main level with dining and seating areas, a stainless steel kitchen with a full-sized gas convection oven and cooktop, a private bedroom, and a bathroom with an antique clawfoot tub; and a basement level with another private bedroom, a bathroom with a shower and an electric sauna (super easy to use and Wonderful!). Plenty of windows throughout the cabin, including a large half round window in the loft, bathe the home in natural light. The front covered porch is a nod to the art of porch sitting with a swing built for two. The back deck is a sweet dining spot for four and offers access to the stone pathway down to the water lily pond and the fire ring. Hiking along the dead end ridge road along the property provides expansive views to the West to watch the sun set.

Tiny, Tiny Home at Sittin Pretty

Tiny home · Sleeps 4
Tiny, as we affectionately call this cabin, is perched up on Dach Ridge six miles out of Viroqua just off County NN offering lovely views across neighboring farm fields toward the western horizon. Surrounding woods with a walking trail give an intimate sense of the natural world. You are in the heart of Amish country and the goings and comings of their agrarian lives give a sense of another time. 1/4 mile walk down the road, at the nearest Amish neighbor, you can buy produce in season and eggs. The space Tiny is just that! Only 300 sq ft! However, lofty 10' ceilings and lots of windows give the cabin an open, spacious feel. The queen bed in the loft, up built-in stairs, is surrounded by windows on three sides allowing for an almost panoramic view of the area. The interior is covered in birch plywood, with walnut live edge shelving and custom made concrete kitchen counter and bathroom sink. The spacious shower is beautifully tiled with a marble floor and offers a relaxing rainfall shower head. A well-furnished kitchen includes a convection oven, five burner gas stove, pots and pans, silverware, utensils, dishes, cups, and bowls. We also provide a Weber grill and a charcoal chimney starter. Other things to note We caution children and people with mobility issues from staying here because the stairs and the lofted area present falling hazards. Also the ceiling in the lofted area is low, meaning no standing room. Please take a look at the photos to make sure you'll be comfortable. Take in the Western horizon and the night sky where dark is still dark and the stars are stunning. Sit outside in our patio chairs around the fire ring. Firewood and kindling for your nighttime fire is available upon request.
