Plates, bowls and cutlery are provided along with cooking utensils and a handful of pots, pans, and bowls. Salt, sugar, and olive oil also provided. We provide filtered water and cream in the refrigerator upon your arrival, and for families with young children we have a gate to block the staircase and outlet caps for added security.
Twelve chickens are a part of our family, and you are welcome to feed the chickens clover or fresh flowers, and help us plant flowers or pick apples depending on the season! We also have two farm dogs and two farm cats who might want to say hello.

This cabin is nestled on the banks of Elk Creek. The creek wraps around the entire property and is a Class 1 trout stream. The camp site is completely secluded and private. There is a tri-pod for cooking. The cabin comes equipped with 3 cots and a full futon. It sleeps up to 4 people. No linens or pillows are provided, so be sure to pack your sleeping bag. No running water or electricity as it is off grid. Site utilizes a composting toilet for sanitation purposes. Hand pump outside the cabin for water access. Solar lamps and phone charging available. The English Pale Campground is located along the Black River in Jackson County, 1 mile west of the Village of Melrose. The entire property only allows guests and occupants who are 21 or older. Sites/house can be booked 6 months in advance. The main campground is 70 feet above the river, so the beach access paths have 14% grade change .
We have 5 rustic (no hook-ups) RV/Travel Trailer/Tent sites "up top", a fully furnished “Manor” House, a travel trailer as well as 2 rustic beach sites and 2 rustic river sites that are located along the river. The property is a total of 70 acres, which includes the 4+ acre beach, a mile of river front and trails through the woods that connect them all.
IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: The river edge erosion wall construction is complete however it suffered extensive damage. The area will need to be repaired this summer (July and August) but not on weekends.
The English Pale opened in 2021 and is a developing property. In November of 2025 an erosion wall was built along the Black River. This included clearing of a section of the forest, building a gravel access road and an riprap river wall to prevent further erosion. Since 2016 over 60 feet of the riverbank has washed away.
ATV/UTV/golfcarts are allow to operate on gravel pathways without any permits. This includes up to but NOT on the beach. A permit from management must be obtained for ATV/UTVs to operate ON the beach.
Our property offers a reasonable expectation of privacy and we do not offer day passes as our target guests are campers. We are an adult only property, but not a nudist campground, as that is not our central theme. We do not prohibit our guests from nudity for the purpose of sunbathing on the beach, campsites or sundeck, but nudity is not allowed in general common areas. Part of our nature is allowing discreet nudity for tanning purposes. While we target couples for time together, singles and groups are welcome. This is NOT a party campground, our goal is to let you connect with nature.

Enjoy a stay at our rustic log cabins nestled 1/2 mile back from our residence in the peaceful woods of our family's 160-acre 5th generation farm. Summertime here is filled with long days of daylight to participate in various activities, or just hang out in the hammock. The warm evenings bring out fire flies, owls hooting, and stargazing while sitting around the campfire. The fall is a very special time of year here with the maples and oaks changing colors. There are two log cabins, one of which doubles as a place to cook maple syrup in the spring, a pavilion, and an odor-free "outhouse". We will only rent to one group at a time, you'll just have to choose which cabin site(s) you want. The group limit is 9 people.
Hike the trails meandering through our woods, sit around the large campfire, take a relaxing nap in the hammock, watch sunset down one of the trails, or the many activities of hiking and mountain/fat tire biking groomed trails at nearby Levis/Trow Mound (our favorite), fishing, kayaking, horse trail rides, and The Highground Veterans Memorial Park (a must-see) is a mile up the road. The pavilion has a large log picnic table, Blackstone griddle, a charcoal grill, and refrigerator/freezer. The pavilion and Sugar Shack cabin have solar power. The Sugar Shack has a small gas stove and oven. The Cozy Cabin does not have solar power yet. All rentals include use of the pavilion and "outhouse". New in 2026 - outdoor shower with heated water.
There is no WiFi but good cell phone service. Bedding is furnished for cabin stays. Wood and charcoal are furnished. Extra lawn chairs available. We have cornhole available and other yard games for use. All you really need to bring is food, beverages, towels & favorite book or game.
We welcome your furry friends, but no more than 2 dogs. There is a $25 pet cleaning fee under extras. This $25 fee covers 2 dogs. We politely request no children under 7 in cabins, and then all children over 7 supervised at all times while in cabins.

Our farmstead sits three quarter of a mile off the paved county highway on our well maintained gravel driveway.

to access, and two are accessible with 2WD.

There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from Old growth Maple to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. Bring your fat bike or mountain bike for an enjoyable ride.
For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing
or snowshoeing / hiking
on the property. However the Rock Bottom Cabin is our only heated and insulated site and is available for winter booking. Winter access is walk in only with snow on the ground or in the forecast. We can help transport gear.
This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and guided tours of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows.
Children 12 and younger are free at our campsites.
No need to be counted as guests , but please let us know when requesting to book.

Weekend Trip to Rustic Log Cabin Retreat
We stayed 3 nights in one of these rustic cabins and had an amazing experience. Tucked behind the hosts’ farm, the cabins offer a peaceful, private getaway surrounded by nature. The hosts built everything themselves using materials from the property, which makes the cabins feel extra special and unique.
The hosts were incredibly friendly and thoughtful, checking in before our stay and showing us how everything worked when we arrived. They also shared great local recommendations. The cabins are pet friendly too, allowing up to 2 dogs.
This place is the perfect mix of rustic camping and cozy glamping, with hiking trails, beautiful scenery, a hammock, fire pit, solar lights, and even a welcome s’mores kit and a sample bottle of maple syrup they make. Everything you need is provided while still feeling like a true escape. Relaxing, beautiful, and unforgettable — we can’t wait to come back.

Mike and Joan were phenomenal hosts. Joan greeted us, provided a detailed map of the property and trails, and personally led us to our site. Mike later stopped by to introduce himself, which was thoughtful and made us feel welcome.
The amenities struck a great balance between immersion and convenience. We appreciated the gray water sink, cooking grate over the fire area, covered firewood, on site garbage/recycling, and outhouse. Note that there isn't a traditional fire pit, only the setup shown in the photos.
The outhouse is about 10 steps from the boat, surprisingly spacious, and uses a composting system with sawdust provided after each use. There was also a child potty seat available which is one less thing for a family of littles to pack!
The site requires a short walk down a mowed hill. Access is through the hosts' property, so there isn't a separate private entrance. You can come and go, but it's easiest to arrive with everything you'll need.
Our 8-year-old and two dogs loved the space. The site felt private, we enjoyed the nature playground and driving the boat, and the cliff-top location was beautiful. It was breezy during our stay and we encountered very few mosquitoes.
One drawback was that the boat felt damp and musty. We found a few dead bugs and some mouse droppings, which didn't bother us much, but the musty smell transferred to our clothing and bedding and required thorough washing once we returned home.

Weekend Trip to Aefintyr
The site was excellent, with lots of handy amenities. It was cool to have a little grill available and some communal areas, while also having a secluded camp site. The process of booking was easy, and Chelsi was proactive and responsive with communication.

We enjoyed making dinner on the patio, chilling by the fire, and taking in the views. This was our second stay and we’ll definitely be back. Our 16 year old loves grilling steaks from the farm and our daughter likes seeing all the different animals, bugs, and plants we don’t see at home. We heard an owl and had amazing weather! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Weekend Trip to Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland
A truly beautiful hideout in the woods. Mike met us when we arrived and lead us down a magical path in our 4x4 to the cabin - he prepared everything so it was ready for us. The trails are a highlight which are so much fun to explore. In short - if you need to escape from the pace of modern life this is a gem. Thank you Mike for making such a special place to share.

We had such a wonderful two night stay down in the valley woods at the Wooden Tent. The site has everything you need and nothing you don't. Lovely trails area that feels perfectly secluded. Mike was so helpful. We'll be back!

2 nights at Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland
My husband and I camped here two nights this spring, and it was so lovely! No near neighbors, all the calming nature sounds, kind hosts, a very nice composting toilet that did not smell at all (which is huge to me), a well-ventilated A-frame cabin, and plenty of space to explore on the trails on site.
I would give this camp 6 stars if I could.
Side note: do take the "vehicles with AWD and 6 inches of clearance" seriously! The drive down would be pretty impossible otherwise

First it is very easy to get to the farm. Directions are easy to follow.
Once you get there you find the kindest welcome and many helpful directions on activities and getting around on their beautiful land.
Then, you are left to your own lodging choice both quiet and private.
The map and signs for hiking are equivalent to or better than my state park experiences.
A night time fire is easy to build and for me, sleeping in the Wooden Tent was just what I wanted and with more space than I thought I would get.
If you are wishing for a change of pace and scenery, this is your place. I look forward to returning.

This was an absolutely beautiful cabin with great views of the woods behind the property. The cabin was perfect, clean and comfortable. Probably the cleanest, nicest outhouse I’ve ever seen and the hosts were wonderful.

We were the first guests of the season and it was COLD outside (It even snowed) but the barn was so cozy and warm inside. Homemade breakfast was delivered along with homemade hot tea and it was exceptional! They offered us to reach out for anything we may need but we didn’t need a thing! It was perfect! We’re looking forward to coming back for a longer stay when the flowers are in bloom!

We booked a cabin here to break up a long road trip, and couldn't be happier with our stay. Jeff was friendly and accommodating, even working with us on a late arrival time. The cabin we stayed is was even nicer than I thought, pictures don't do it justice. I think we might have to come back up for his big bluegrass festival.

This is such a gem of a place! We booked last minute and had a really warm welcome to the farm by Mike. Definitely believe him about the 4WD and arriving before dark being needed going down to the cabin! Being early spring, everything was just starting to turn a little green and it was still quite chilly at night and Mike had the wood stove going when we arrived :) Everything at this site is so well thought out and JUST enough of what you need. It is so thoughtful and appreciated that they provided ample drinking water and firewood. I love all of the whimsical touches of the property and trails. Looking forward to coming back to see it in another season as well!

Thankyouuuu so much for the wonderful stay. If you are looking for somewhere to stay close to state parks and other places this is the one. The amenities were in perfect condition and the host was extremely responsive and kind. My only qualm it was so close to roads and didn’t feel fully immersed in nature. For the price it was a little expensive for the size of the place but we fully enjoyed our stay. Thanks again! May

3 nights at Kickback’s Angler Shack
This cabin is so lovely and cozy! I was concerned about being warm enough in late March but I had no need to be. The gas fireplace keeps the cabin incredibly toasty. The creekside fire pit is picturesque. I enjoyed making a morning fire and watching the creek flow by as it gently began to snow. This was the perfect spot for a weekend of quiet reflection. Truly magical! Thank you!
