We welcome you to our small slice of Driftless heaven. This private campsite is located in prairie land, surrounded by agricultural and wooded property (it’s quiet). Within a few minutes drive you have access to some of the best trout streams a fishing license can buy. You're also in close proximity to amazing hiking and biking trails, agri-tourism (apple pickin' good times!), endless photography opportunities, wineries, birding, stargazing and visits to downtown Viroqua! After a long day of adventuring, come back to this quiet retreat, make some brandy old fashions and enjoy the ambiance of the stars and crackling camp fire!
This site can accommodate 2 large tents with plenty of room for a camp kitchen, fire pit and seating area. There is newly constructed composting style outbuilding (please read instructions before using it) and a camp kitchen table along with solar powered lighting.
Firewood and other supplies are conveniently available in downtown Viroqua. Be sure to check out the various retailers and restaurants while you're there!

The property is 125 acres, triangular in shape and bound by low-traffic township roads on two sides and by farmland at the back of the property.
We have valleys with three ridges, total elevation is about 300 feet from low point to high point. We have two springs on the property that are the source for a small unnamed creek that feeds into Trout Creek and then the Kickapoo River.
The property has walking paths in the grassy pasture areas in the valley (partially mowed), unmowed trails up and down the hillsides and on the ridges, and a high bluff overlook.
We are between the towns of Soldiers Grove and Readstown, 2 miles from the Kickapoo River and US Highway 61 on paved roads. There are public restrooms with showers a 5 minute drive from site in Soldiers Grove, where there is also an RV dump station.

In the foreground is a natural field with small Cedar trees, Scrub Oak, Sumac and prairie grasses where deer often eat and bed. I had an absolutely incredible stay at this Hipcamp. It felt like I had been transported to the mountains, not Wisconsin! The views in the driftless region were stunning. I reached out to host Andy in advance, and he graciously let me stay in the fenced dog park area, which featured a crystal-clear spring-fed pond. The trails on the property were amazing, perfect for exploring with my dogs, and the location itself is out of this world. It's right in the heart of Amish country, with Amish horse and buggies riding right past the campsite. Andy was fantastic, welcoming, helpful, and full of great local recommendations. If he was working near the campsite he kept me informed, but otherwise gave me my privacy and it really felt like I had the place to myself. Andy even loaned me a corkscrew after I forgot mine. Although the listing says no cooking equipment, the site was set up with a campfire grill grate which was so helpful for cooking over the open fire. I purchased the wood add on and Andy provided more than enough wood right beside the fire for two days. He also suggested a nearby Amish home-based bakery, which had some of the most delicious baked goods I’ve ever tasted. Every detail of this stay was thoughtful, peaceful, and memorable. I only wish I could have stayed longer! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a serene, stunning, and unique camping experience.

This is exactly the kind of spot you hope to find when camping in Galena. The land feels almost beyond words. You’re perched on a hill with trees at your back and a sweeping view of the Mississippi Valley in front. The sunsets here rank among the best I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been chasing them for 44 years across the world.
The experience is completely private. A locked gate secures the property, and once I closed it behind me I felt wonderfully alone. There’s a sturdy iron table with chairs, a flat rock, and a great stone fire ring. I set up a hammock between two trees and had a clear view of the valley right from it.
You’re far enough from town to escape Galena’s buzz, but close enough to pop back for firewood or supplies. Darcee was a pleasure to communicate with and very kind about accommodating my changing needs before the trip.
I left feeling deeply grateful and rejuvenated. This place is a true gift.

This was our second trip to this spot in a week. The hosts are so gracious. When I let Andy know that we were returning to watch the Perseid meteor shower, he offered to mow an extra area away from the designated site so we'd have more sky to watch. These folks really want you to feel like you are at home.
Another real treat: during a summer that has been very wet, we have encountered zero mosquitoes on this property during either of our visits.
I expect to return frequently, and highly recommend.
