Over 100 years ago, this property was logged of all of it's old growth conifers. Well, things have been growing here ever since. There are many old growth stumps dotted around the property; many acting as "nurse or Mother logs" to new growth. We have been here for 30 years & have select logged keeping the integrity of the property in tact. These trees know they are loved and honored. They are happy & it shows. You feel the vibe a soon as you drive up.

The *Purple Cottage* -- was found & salvaged (recycled!)-- moved onto the back of my property in 2012. This 16 X 12' place has been my studio in the past, but has offered overflow for friends & ; family. Nestled in the woods and ever-so-private, the cottage has a pull-out double futon, plus a small sleeping loft and can accommodate 1 -2 nicely (we will consider 3 if you have a small child, but it would be a tight fit!... The Purple Cottage sits on a shy wooded acre, with greenbelt buffers all around, maximizing the sense of privacy. our vintage Shasta Trailer across the driveway of the Purple Cottage is currently used as a music studio (and rarely as family/guest overflow), and I have my own small Artist Studio located also on the back of the property. Even with all the little enclave of buildings, The Purple Cottage retains a private feel all to itself, with reliable Wi-Fi available at the cottage. . It is located in a quiet little neighborhood, about 6 miles from Langley & 6 miles from Freeland.. Private beach access is across the road and a 15 minute walk up the street, where you can beach comb & explore the shoreline out at our little point. The private deck off the side of the Purple Cottage offers views of the gardens & flora, and has a little gas barbecue. There is also a delightful hot tub on the deck, which is a wonderful feature. An outdoor kitchen on the edge of the woods allows a roomier “camp cooking” experience with Colman stove & cold running water (season permitting).
We are located 6 miles from the picturesque town of Langley and equal distance from Freeland, on the south end of Whidbey. Our area is very *bike-able* and either direction will get you to town!

During the summer months, from July to September, our farm will be ablaze with seasonal fruit, including blackberries, cherries, apples, and salmonberries. Our expansive fields and wooded surroundings are also home to a diverse array of wildlife, such as bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, barn swallows, quail, and their offspring. Deer and occasional coyotes roam the property, but rest assured, they are apprehensive of us and pose no threat.
We derive great pleasure from spending time outdoors, so you may frequently observe us engaged in fieldwork, construction, or simply relaxing in our stargazing hammock circle. We are always available to provide you with space or invite you to join us. We derive immense satisfaction from meeting new individuals and have numerous recommendations for Whidbey Island, including the delectable blueberry stand in Freeland and the Mutiny Bay Blues, a venue that we can either recommend or provide directions to.

This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region.
We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

Oso Highlands is a 24 acre working farm located on the Stillaguamish River. We raise Scottish Highland cattle and have a variety of smaller livestock on the farm including, miniature horses, goats, chickens, and a peacock.
We have two sites on the property: A fully furnished 3 bedroom house completely separated from the host's living area, and a small cabin on the farm itself near the goats and chickens.

We are always available to provide you with space or invite you to join us. This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region.
We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. The campsite is situated in the old orchard on the historical Ducken Farm. It has distant ocean views, is surrounded by hay fields, and you can see the local cows in the adjoining pasture.
If, coming from Hwy 20, take the second driveway. The sites are past the house. There is running water in the little milkhouse by the barn.
It is 1/2 mile from the famous Deception Pass State Park and 1 mile from the Deception Pass Bridge and it's Spectacular Views.
There are many hiking trails, Ebey Bluffs, kayaking, ferry's to other islands, climb Goose Rock, Bowman Bay, Rosario Beach.

Oso Highlands is a 24 acre working farm located on the Stillaguamish River. We raise Scottish Highland cattle and have a variety of smaller livestock on the farm including, miniature horses, goats, chickens, and a peacock.
We have two sites on the property: A fully furnished 3 bedroom house completely separated from the host's living area, and a small cabin on the farm itself near the goats and chickens.

The reviews don't lie: this place is a gem and DeAnn is a sweetheart! We only stayed for one night, but it was exactly what we needed. Even on a cloudy day, we could bask in Whitehorse Mt and Three Finger Mt as the sun set. The house is cozy, well-stocked, and with a great location. Hope to return someday!

Impeccable views from the cabin. Comfortable and clean. The wood stove kept the cabin toasty on a chilly night. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, teas and spices. There is a delightful collection of Buddhist texts to peruse, which pairs very well with the clean mountain air.
We had a lovely stay.
I will say that sound travels extremely easily through the house, so bring a fan or white noise machine if you are a light sleeper. (Though when the weather is warmer you'll be able to open the windows and hear the sound of the nearby creek)

Jaw dropping! The climb is steep so be prepared with a good vehicle! Every detail of the house is spectacular! The master bed could use a little help in the comfort but we slept in the living room for sunrise!!!!

1 night at Clear Light Valley Retreat
DeAnn is simply amazing and so is her gorgeous 3 bedroom, 2 story cabin! I highly recommend this place to everyone who loves being outdoors or in, with a spectacular view of the mountains and a creek on the property! We absolutely loved the wood burning fireplace that warmed both stories perfectly! The couch is super comfortable and it reclines as well! The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and if it’s not there, you can run to the store 10 minutes away or DeAnn might even offer it to you if you ask! She is honestly the sweetest, generous, kind, friendly woman I’ve met in a long time! She makes you feel at home in every way! My kids and best friend can’t wait to go back, we miss it so much already, 2 days wasn’t enough at all! Thank you, DeAnn for being the nicest person on earth, and for blessing us with a super late check out for my son’s 21st birthday! We can’t wait to see you again and look forward to the hike down to the creek together again, what an amazing memory!

The Hipcamp was just as described. It was clean and it was cozy.
We arrived later than expected and left earlier due to the expected cold weather. I brought a small propane heater and extra blankets but it wasn’t warm enough for us.

A wonderful stay. The site is gorgeous. There's a really nice mountain scenery that can be enjoyed directly from the comfort of the living room. There's a wood stove that creates a great atmosphere and helps keeps the cabin very warm. As a bonus, theres plenty of wood to chop outside if you'd like to try that. (There's also already chopped wood so it's not necessary to do it). De Ann was a wonderful host and stopped by to say hi. She was very accommodating to our schedule too.

Weekend Trip to Pacific Rim Institute
Great spot on the middle of the island. Quiet and peaceful. No power but clean and dry. Fire pit offered a great spot for an evening campfire.
Very clean, cots for sleeping. Bring headlamps. Running water, shower and toilet clean and about 60 - 80 yds from the cabin. Great host and spot!

Weekend Trip to Wild Hearts on Whidbey
We enjoyed our stay at the Glasshouse! The concept is really cool and we enjoyed the large space. Rochelle was responsive and quickly was able to find someone to fix the woodstove when we were having problems.
If you are not confident in starting a fire I would definitely bring a fire starter. I am confident in my fire making skills, but we were not able to get a fire going, which made for a chilly stay. It feels relevant to note that the weather forecast was incredibly rainy so while the wood was dry, the humidity definitely had an effect (nobody's fault). Luckily there is a baseboard heater in the bedroom space as well as electric blankets so we were plenty warm at night!
The dishwashing/handwashing station wasn't super obvious to us, and we hope in the future there will be a sink space to do these things.

I was at the Mountain retreat with my daughter and 12-year-old grandson. We were all awed by the home, the views, and the sense of beauty. DeAnn made sure we were settled in and let us know she was available quickly if we needed her help.
This home provided just what we needed. We had space for our alone times, great cooking and eating together times, and space to hang out together.

Such a beautiful cabin, we stayed there with our in laws in the fall and it was so cozy. The view is stunning and so much space for our dogs to run around and play! Loved the wood burning stove, kept the place so toasty and with the rain it was such a vibe. Would absolutely be back! The host was so kind and responsive as well- she lended us whatever we needed and helped us get the fire going in the cabin.
