The RV is alongside the main lodge, to the left as you are looking at the garage. We have a fenced-in chicken paddock, fenced-in garden area, 2 horses living their best life as pets in the lower pasture, peafowl in the pole barn, and lots of wildlife around - finches, blackbirds, hummingbirds, barn swallows, doves, other song birds, Canadian geese, ducks, frogs, dragonflies, wild bunnies, field mice, bats, hawks, crows, occasional visits from a river otter family, an eagle, or a herd of elk (usually seen around dawn or dusk), and on the less desirable side we also have gophers, moles, voles, wasps and mosquitos - and the possibility of a coyote, mountain lion, or bear though those sightings are quite rare. You are welcome to roam the property and explore. Please don't enter the chicken paddocks, the peafowl enclosure, or the horse pasture for your safety and the animals' welfare. We typically have plenty of eggs from our chickens, who are fed a soy-free, corn-free diet with lots of table scraps - just let us know if you'd like us to stock the frig with some (available seasonally from spring to fall)! During the summer there may be garden produce available as well, and in August you are welcome to pick blackberries from the ever-present blackberry bushes that are found in many places around the property. Please take care around the pond - there are fish in there, and it's quite mucky. It's not suitable for swimming. There is no fence or gate around the pond - or the hot tub for that matter - so please watch your children carefully. We have an 8-person patio dining table and some comfy patio furniture out on the back deck of the lodge that we are happy to share with you, as well as a BBQ grill, fire pit, and hot tub.

Weekend Trip to The Village at Rainier

Definitely has a family friendly welcome. The yurt was warm even though it was pouring all night long. First night we left heat on low, second night we left it off. They have probably one of the most well appointed kitchens we have ever seen, big and roomy. There are games and books and seating. Big family style table for games and dining. Like home away from home with loads of hiking trails near by. We brought our dogs and they had a blast. Next time we come to visit I wont be in class all day. We cannot say enough about how beautiful it is in camp and the surrounding area. 100% recommend!

This property was calm, clean and offered us privacy, nature, a place to cook, showers and a hot tub. The camping locations are spread out and we didn’t mind the quick stroll to reach the various amenities. It took us about little more than an hour to visit Mt. rainier and offered a view on the river as well. We hope to come again.

Weekend Trip to Wildfern Grove

This is my favorite getaway place. It's simple and gracious, a beautiful setting for a peaceful retreat or rest. It isn't too far from Mount Rainier and other good hiking areas, but right now, unfortunately, the primary road down to Rainier is closed because of a bridge problem and another road that would have gone to alternative areas was also closed from a bridge problem, so I do recommend checking road access to special places before you go. Note, this is August 2025, so hopefully the roads will be reopened before too long. Nevertheless, this is a truly amazing place. I love the yurts, the giant maples and the meadows. There's also a community house with a kitchen that is incredibly well stocked and a lovely community living room there also very gracious. There's a cedar hot tub on the deck, which is quite lovely. They've upgraded now and have compostable toilets and hand washing stations. Another note, there is no electricity in the yurts, and while they provide simple lanterns. Next time, I will for sure bring a larger battery and electric lamp. for when I need more light and to charge up my phone. There is a charging station in the community house,.

A really special place! We loved our conversation with two of the long-term residents. Very communal, natural feel. Everything was labeled, clean, and well-stocked, and our yurt bed was extremely comfortable, too. Easy gravel driveway.

The sites were a lil close together but the yurt was adorable and cozy. It did get a little warm but felt really nice on the colder nights. The owners were doing renovations so was a bit loud during the afternoon but once construction stopped it was very peacefull. The kitchen had everything you could ever need and the hot tub was super relaxing, especially after all dat hiking. I loved the vibes of the owners and the property. Very romantic!

The Tipi is quite a fun way to camp! The provided fan really moves the air nicely for ventilation. The area is beautiful and close to Rainier National Park. The provided directions made it easy to find even in the dark. Saw a herd of elk down by the river. Nice easy path to get down to the river. It also is blackberry season so they were everywhere. The hot tub is nice yet room for only two reasonably. The fridge an eating area also were nice. Just wish there was a spatula for pancakes. Maybe I missed it. Would definitely stay again!

What a great stay in the heart yurt--would certainly recommend! There are showers both in the common area and outdoor showers (both with hot water!!). There are a whole bunch of shared items in the kitchen are and board games and instruments in the common area too. Access instructions were clear and straightforward and a binder/booklet was provided on the table to orient guests to all of the amenities. The bed was comfy and warm with nice sheets and pillows that were on the firmer side. The hosts and people working here were kind and welcoming and helpful whenever I needed anything. There's a toilet in the common area as well as composting toilets closer to the yurts. The composting toilets were v nice--the nicest I've encountered! All around great stay! The one thing that could have been frustrating (didn't become a problem till the morning I was leaving) was that there was a leak around a window which allowed a slow dribble of water into the yurt. Probably easily fixable with some caulk or something?

Tips for snagging a campsite

Though RVs are allowed to park at Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, and White River campgrounds, they have no electrical, water, or grey water hookups.
Each campsite is limited to a maximum of two vehicles, two tents, and/or six campers. Most campsites are big enough for only one tent and up to four people.
Campsites at Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, and White River campgrounds can all be booked in advance online, with availability opening on a six-month rolling basis. The sites at Mowich Lake are available only on a first-come, first-served basis

When to go

Mount Rainier National Park is open year-round, though heavy winter snow typically closes all but the Nisqually Entrance. At this time, roads at higher elevations may be closed or require snow chains or winter tires to access. July and August are busy times, when popular parking lots and entrances come with long waits. Aim for a mid-week visit, or go during the late spring or early fall to beat the crowds.

Know before you go

The visitor center at the Longmire Museum is open year-round, while the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at Paradise closes on winter weekdays. The Ohanapecosh Visitor Center and Sunrise Visitor Center are open in summer.
When making a summer visit, try to arrive early (before 10am) or later in the day (after 2:30pm) to avoid peak crowds and wait times.
Concessions are sold at Longmire, Paradise, and Sunrise. You can also stock up in the nearby towns of Ashford and Packwood.
Cell service is unreliable in Mount Rainier National Park, but there is wifi in the Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise.
