Hipcampers that stay at Island Base Camp will find themselves in a large grassy spot surrounded by evergreens and maple trees. Within 15 minutes are 3 places to launch boats, kayaks, etc., along with some beach access trails. Many hiking opportunities in the area. Berry picking and fresh apples in the summer on the property. If you are lucky, you will be greeted (and possibly herded) at some point by 2 friendly aussies that roam freely. Ducks and cats also live here. Saturday's 10-noon is a community Farmer's market at the island's community center. Don't miss Daisy Hill's cinnamon rolls, get there early. Tents can be pitched under four apple trees close to a fire pit for cooking. Beautiful area with horses and livestock to see in the neighborhood. A Blueberry Farm is across the street on Veazie picking around August. A Christmas Trees farm is across the street on SE 384th. Eagles, hawks, robins, doves, owls, and hummingbirds visiting hillside flower garden, are a few of the birds for your enjoyment. Check in is at 4:00 check out at 11:00 am, early check in is possible. The cottage was so lovely and had everything we needed! It’s a beautiful property with such fun goats and peacocks. There was tea and coffee, dishes, and utensils available for use. The bed was very comfortable, and it was the perfect getaway.

We went of for the weekend for a port gamble conference. After some research, we came across this lovely place! We absolutely looooooved the peacocks and goats! I would definitely love to visit again! The only thing I would recommend if you stay here through late fall or winter is to pack something warm to sleep in. It didn’t get a little chilly, but other than that, it was a lovely place. ♥️

We enjoyed our stay at the rustic A-Frame cabin with gorgeous views. It was a great place to kick back and relax and yet be close to a plethora of recreational opportunities. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen with quality kitchenware. We enjoyed, with the use of the provided spotting scope, watching the groups of Bald Eagles feeding on the mud flats at low tide. We ESPECIALLY appreciated that our dog was welcome.

Laughing Leaf Cottage was a 20/10! The hosts are incredibly welcoming and communicative in their messages but also very respectful of your personal privacy! The cottage itself was a beautifully decorated and curated space…felt very cozy and serene. The outside of the cottage was very private and though you couldn’t see the main house you could still see all the gorgeous gardens and the goats/peacocks. The outside area also had a cute and shaded picnic table along with a beautiful secluded small deck with a fire pit and chairs all overlooking the green ferns and forest. The area was quiet and peaceful and I will 100 percent be back. Had a wonderful time.

we had such a nice stay here!! beautiful quiet property, comfy cozy cottage, and the sweetest hosts. we would absolutely stay again and recommend to anyone who is looking for a lowkey way to spend a few nights away from the noise, and still be near all the fun port cities. even our dog had the best time, meeting all the animals and relaxing in the grass. very peaceful :)

My stay at Camp Duckabush was nothing short of magical. The A-frame cabin is cozy, peaceful, and impeccably maintained. Waking up in the tranquil loft bedroom to views of the Hood Canal while drinking coffee on the balcony was an absolute dream. Inside, the cabin had everything I needed—from a fully stocked kitchen (with locally roasted Rainshadow Coffee!) to a comfy living area with blankets, propane heater 🔥, and FireTV. I especially appreciated the thoughtful touches like the reading nook, board games, and even a spotting scope to watch the local wildlife. The outdoor space was just as memorable. I spent the evening lounging outside with a glass of wine in the provided lounge chairs. The views of the Hood Canal were stunning, and the peaceful setting made it feel like a true escape from the everyday. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a solo retreat, or just some time to reconnect with nature, I can’t recommend this place enough. I left feeling completely recharged and already dreaming of my next visit.

Weekend Trip to Island Base Camp

A very cute, cozy, and clean stay! Angie was very accommodating and the all amenities were very clean and tidy. Love the vintage vibe of the trailer and lots of land for our dog to stretch his legs on. Located on the owner's property but very private. Separate outdoor toilet which was incredibly clean, rustic outdoor space equipped with seating, BBQ etc. My only suggestion is to use fragrance-free detergent on the linens (it was very strong but indicated they were very clean!). Our mini-honeymoon at Camp Duckabush was absolutely divine! We started each morning with coffee in hand, taking in the peaceful marshland views and spotting local wildlife. The A-frame’s interior is adorably decorated with charming touches throughout. Our host Makayla was wonderful, attentive and quick to respond to any needs. The cabin made the perfect base for outdoor adventures, from hiking to a stunning waterfall to enjoying panoramic views at Mount Walker lookout. We even had the magical experience of watching a family of elk cross the road, with the majestic bull bringing up the rear. Evenings were spent unwinding around the cozy fire pit, the perfect way to end each day. Thank you for an incredible stay!

Excellent stay here. Makayla was very responsive and thought of everything so that I felt at home. Loved the coziness of the place, the view, and lounging in the hammock on cold days but basking in the sun. Will definitely be back. Lots to do in the area. This was a perfect base camp.

We enjoyed our time at the A-frame! Makayla was very accommodating, responsive, and provided everything we could want for a relaxing stay. I loved waking up with a view of the water from the bed. The couch is super comfy and the whole place invites relaxation, with the books and board games and coloring pages. I appreciate this spot being dog friendly, and I felt comfortable letting my young puppy run around the yard without a leash.

Makayla is an excellent host. The it's A-frame cabin is darling and a total delight. Updated, but still retaining the original charm. Visited for the Veteran's Day weekend with my Mom and 10 year old son. Made wonderful memories. If you have time, check out the 5 min hike to a beautiful waterfall- Rocky Brook Falls. It's off Dosewallips Road, very close to the cabin.
