The *Purple Cottage* -- was found & salvaged (recycled!)-- moved onto the back of my property in 2012. This 16 X 12' place has been my studio in the past, but has offered overflow for friends & ; family. Nestled in the woods and ever-so-private, the cottage has a pull-out double futon, plus a small sleeping loft and can accommodate 1 -2 nicely (we will consider 3 if you have a small child, but it would be a tight fit!... There is a very small sleeping loft in the cottage.). There is a “en suite kitchen in the cottage that has a small fridge, microwave, and two burner stovetop cooking unit.
The cottage offers privacy in a wooded garden setting. The bathhouse, with hot shower, vanity and; toilet --are all steps away (and covered) from the main cabin.
The Purple Cottage sits on a shy wooded acre, with greenbelt buffers all around, maximizing the sense of privacy. our vintage Shasta Trailer across the driveway of the Purple Cottage is currently used as a music studio (and rarely as family/guest overflow), and I have my own small Artist Studio located also on the back of the property. Even with all the little enclave of buildings, The Purple Cottage retains a private feel all to itself, with reliable Wi-Fi available at the cottage. . It is located in a quiet little neighborhood, about 6 miles from Langley & 6 miles from Freeland.. Private beach access is across the road and a 15 minute walk up the street, where you can beach comb & explore the shoreline out at our little point. The private deck off the side of the Purple Cottage offers views of the gardens & flora, and has a little gas barbecue. There is also a delightful hot tub on the deck, which is a wonderful feature. An outdoor kitchen on the edge of the woods allows a roomier “camp cooking” experience with Colman stove & cold running water (season permitting).
We are located 6 miles from the picturesque town of Langley and equal distance from Freeland, on the south end of Whidbey. Our area is very *bike-able* and either direction will get you to town!
The Purple Cottage offers a rustic retreat in a place that feels far away, but is an hour & a half from the bustling city of Seattle!

This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region.
We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

At 180 acres Glendale Farm in Chimacum, in operation since 1857, is one of the largest single agricultural properties remaining in Jefferson County. The farm includes prime agricultural soils, over half a mile of East Chimacum Creek, and forested areas. The easement protects a buffer zone for salmon and wildlife habitat along the east fork of Chimacum Creek and protects the agricultural and forestry values of the property forever. Glendale farm experienced a devestating loss in 2022, the primary residence burned down, and since then has been going through an extensive cleanup from an extreme hoarding situation. We recommend using shoes at all times as we are still in the process of combing the grounds for glass and possible sharp objects. You can expect to see old farm equipment, some derelict Rvs, and material debris which we are raising funds to remove. This information is based on stories from some old timers my husband had
spoken to in the past when he bought this property in 2002. The owner back in the old days sold off parcels and parcels of lands back then.

Come stay in our cabin at the estuary on Turners Bay where wildlife is abundant and easy to see. The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Kukutali Preserve State Park, crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and playing on the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago.
Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles.
While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Shawn, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. The listing is for eight people on the property but if you choose to bring additional guest, it will be five dollars per night per guest ages 5 and above up to an additional 8 people for a total of 16 people. Payable directly to Bruce and Lynn at check out. Do NOT INCLUDE EXTRAS IN YOUR RENTAL FEE today. We do ask you to list everyone 5 and above so we know who will be on property. It was a truly spectacular site, with so many thoughtful touches already in place (like a water cooler inside and a Blackstone grill in the outdoor kitchen), and many more on the way as they develop the site. I built a fire in the Solo stove with unlimited free firewood. The animals were super friendly, and I even got to see them bottle feed a new lamb. It's an easy walk to the beach, with incredible sand cliffs. The hosts had great recommendations, and I ended up driving up Mt. Erie on a perfectly clear day, an easy drive. Everything you'd want to see is a short and easy drive away, like Bowman Bay and Rosario Beach, but it's also a good idea to plan in some chill time at the cabin, particularly at sunset. The cabin gets chilly at night as others have said, and pack a lantern or string lights for the porch. This is a top-notch Hipcamp experience, and I can't wait to bring my kids back later this year.

DeAnn was a wonderful host, she took me around her property and showed me around the trails and down to the water that runs through. She so kindly moved my reservation to the cabin since no one booked it for the dates I would be there, I appreciate the fully stocked kitchen, it had everything you could possibly need and some. The view from the living room was amazing! She even brought me fresh chicken eggs from a friend for $5! I would highly recommend staying here. DeAnn is such a sweetheart!

The reviews don't lie: this place is a gem and DeAnn is a sweetheart! We only stayed for one night, but it was exactly what we needed. Even on a cloudy day, we could bask in Whitehorse Mt and Three Finger Mt as the sun set. The house is cozy, well-stocked, and with a great location. Hope to return someday!

Impeccable views from the cabin. Comfortable and clean. The wood stove kept the cabin toasty on a chilly night. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, teas and spices. There is a delightful collection of Buddhist texts to peruse, which pairs very well with the clean mountain air.
We had a lovely stay.
I will say that sound travels extremely easily through the house, so bring a fan or white noise machine if you are a light sleeper. (Though when the weather is warmer you'll be able to open the windows and hear the sound of the nearby creek)

Jaw dropping! The climb is steep so be prepared with a good vehicle! Every detail of the house is spectacular! The master bed could use a little help in the comfort but we slept in the living room for sunrise!!!!

This place is amazing. A lake view and an ocean view and a zip line and highland cows. Pretty amazing stuff. The host had great dinner recommendations - Jumbo Burrito is the bomb. Beautiful sunsets next to the wood fire stove. Highly recommend this place!

I decided to take my partner to grace’s cabins for a little birthday surprise get away. It was an amazing time, our cabin was very cozy. Everything was perfect, and the land that the cabins sit on is just beautiful in the morning time! I couldn’t recommend a place any more than this one. 1 night at Clear Light Valley Retreat
DeAnn is simply amazing and so is her gorgeous 3 bedroom, 2 story cabin! I highly recommend this place to everyone who loves being outdoors or in, with a spectacular view of the mountains and a creek on the property! We absolutely loved the wood burning fireplace that warmed both stories perfectly! The couch is super comfortable and it reclines as well! The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and if it’s not there, you can run to the store 10 minutes away or DeAnn might even offer it to you if you ask! She is honestly the sweetest, generous, kind, friendly woman I’ve met in a long time! She makes you feel at home in every way! My kids and best friend can’t wait to go back, we miss it so much already, 2 days wasn’t enough at all! Thank you, DeAnn for being the nicest person on earth, and for blessing us with a super late check out for my son’s 21st birthday! We can’t wait to see you again and look forward to the hike down to the creek together again, what an amazing memory!
