Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well. Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. This beautiful piece of the Shire was so peaceful and gave my partner and i a wonderful getaway. We loved the little touches (hobbit garb, Middle Earth tarot cards, Tolkien-inspired pottery, flickering lanterns, etc!) and the beautiful craftsmanship of the whole home. We stayed during a cloudy period so relied on the generator for heat, which worked completely fine and the owner sent helpful instructions for using it ahead of time. Highly recommend this spot, it’s really sweet and magical!

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

Our camping trip at Thunder BRidge campground was great! The host, Adam, gave his phone number out and answered texts almost immediately which was super convenient. The tent site we used (Bunny 2) was clean and had a nice fire pit, benches and picnic tables. There was also place to pull your car in close and a pea gravel tent spot. The bathrooms were as clean as a campground bathroom is expected to be and was stocked well. The showers had really nice hot water which was such a nice ending to the day. Another plus was how close the campground is to interstate 81, hiking trails, Natural Bridge and the safari park! Everything about our trip was great! Highly recommend this spot!!

Lovely spot to pitch a tent! We arrived late but were warmly greeted by other guests and spent a great evening having our dinner in the dining area and chatting around the bonfire. And I was not prepared for those cookies, they were SO good. Very convenient to Goshen, we’ll definitely stop by again.

Fascinating place. Quiet. Took a few minutes to find a level spot, because we didn’t want to drag out the leveling blocks. Lots of acreage to explore. Had no problem finding wood for the campfire. Un-hooking the tow vehicle on site was a little tough … next time we’ll do that off site.

Perfect evening filled with laughter, great food and stories by the campfire. The site was beautiful with plenty of space. We had no trouble going up the hill in 4WD. We enjoyed seeing the animals on the way to the river. We will definitely be back! Thank you for sharing your farm with us!

Weekend Trip to Warren Ferry Landing

An amazing campsite along the James River, very private and well appointed with great fire pit, picnic table, fire wood if needed, and port-potty. Dogs loved the river and beautiful sunrise. Train across the river a few times each day/night which we considered a plus. Lots of wildlife to hear at night.... cows, owls and surprisingly coyotes!!!! Close proximity to great hiking, vineyards, and breweries. We will be back.

This was one of the best car camping experiences I’ve had. Adam was a great host! We could see other campsites from our spot, but they were much farther away than if we were camping at a national or state park where they really pack you in.
