The Farm is located on 65 private acres of Woods and Field on the Tye River. This is a place for people who love nature and want to be out in it. We have chosen to prioritize conservation over ease of access, so though the sites are all walk in only [or paddle in!] this means you will camp on the grass or leaves not the gravel of a parking lot. There are only 3 sites on the land so you can soak up nature without noisy neighbors. "Twin Poplar" refers to the Tulip Poplar's extraordinary tenacity, after being cut down, like the Phoenix who returns to life after death, a Poplar will often regrow as two "twin" trunks. The Field Camp is a very private spot [the MOST private spot on the Farm] at the end of the field, hidden from view from the rest of the farm, that can accommodate lots of people comfortably with a fire ring and access to an outhouse. We have, after some experimentation, chosen to prioritize conservation of the land over ease of access. What this means for you is that you are IN nature, not in a parking lot, when you camp. This also means you cannot park at the site and will have to walk in with your gear. There are only 3 possible sites on the 65 acre farm to camp so you will feel as if the land is yours alone. [although you might cross paths on the trail or at the river] The Field is listed as two site but that is only so a larger group can book. You will not share this space with unknown campers! All of our sites are walk in and again, this means woods and field, not roads or hard packed parking lots. We provide folding carts that you can use to bring gear to your site,  a beautiful 10 min walk from parking. There are 65 acres of woods and field**, on the Tye River [walk through the woods or 1.5 mile walk down the road or drive/bicycle to good swim holes] close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, breweries, wineries, and a Whisky Distillery! ..as well as orchards near by. The amount of wildlife is amazing, and camping out in the field gives you a fabulous experience, sitting by a fire listening  to 3 kinds of owls hooting, coyotes singing, or Whippoorwills or Woodcocks in the Spring, or if you are lucky you'll hear a bobcat or catch the turkeys doing their mating dance! Loads of deer, fox, rabbits, an occasional black bear passing through and hundreds of species of song birds, and raptors. We are far from a city so the night sky is breath-taking on a clear night, and the Field site is perfect for star gazing. The river is EXCELLENT for canoeing and kayaking and fishing. There is a terrific 4 mile run with an easy put in and take out [that runs by the farm at mile 2]. Or, bring tubes [or rent from us!] and throw your tubes in to the river from the farm and do the best part of the float on the river!  [leave a car at the bridge or walk the 1.5 miles back up] I am smitten with this area and am an avid hiker, cycler and motorcyclist, and always happy to share my knowledge of local roads, trails, swimming holes and places to eat and drink. **PLEASE note that as I mention this is a FIELD and WOODS.. NOT a "camp ground" .. the grass grows high.. the grass gets cut.. We ebb and flow with nature here, you are sharing our backyard and we hope you will love it as we do.

On a knoll, deep in the woods, surrounded by ancient Beech Trees and Mountain Laurel, just above the creek is a secluded, magical camp site. [please note, in Winter a "weekend" house can be seen through the woods, in summer it's hidden] Its a short walk [10 mins] to the river, and all of the woods on the Farm are your to explore. We have chosen to prioritize conservation of the land over ease of access. What this means for you is that you are IN nature, not in a parking lot when you camp! However this also means that all of our sites are walk in ONLY!  For you, this means woods, not roads or parking lots. Wecarts that you can use to bring gear to your site about a beautiful 10 mi from parking. There are 65 acres of woods and field**, on the Tye River [a half mile walk through the woods or 1.5 mile walk down the road or drive/bicycle to good swim holes] close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, breweries, cideries, wineries, and a Whisky Distillery, as well as peach and apple orchards near by. The amount of wildlife is amazing, and camping out in the wood gives you a special experience, sitting by a fire [There's a designated fire ring] listening to 3 kinds of owls hooting, coyotes singing, or Whippoorwills or Woodcocks in the Spring, or if you are lucky you'll hear a bobcat  or catch the turkeys doing their mating dance in the field.  The deer wander through, a big buck with his branching antlers or a doe and her spotty twins might walk by. There are fox, rabbits, an occasional black bear passing through and hundreds of species of song birds, and raptors. As you close your eyes you might hear the river over the song of the cicadas. The river is EXCELLENT for paddling and floating. There is a terrific 4 mile run with an easy put in and take out that runs by the farm. Or leave your car at the bridge 1.5 miles away and throw in tubes from the farm! [We now have 4 tubes that can be rented, or bring your own] There are good swimming holes nearby and if you want to leave your spot in the woods, the Blue Ridge Mountains are about a 20 min drive away with the AT and MANY excellent hikes [I'm happy to share my favorites] I am smitten with this area and am an avid hiker, cyclist and motorcyclist, and always happy to share my knowledge of local roads, trails, swimming holes and places to eat and drink.

The sandy beach with 2 small sites next to the river and one bigger one above and a possible spot further up river if you let us know ahead of time! There is a fire ring and space for chairs. The site has easy river access and place to pull boats. Plenty of trees to hang hammocks* from. If no one is around it is a fairly private site, but please note that other campers might come visit the river. There is a road on the other side of the river so you will hear some occasional traffic but the view is mostly obscured by trees in the summer. [If you want more privacy, consider camping in the Woods site and it's a short walk down to enjoy the beach and the river, and you are welcome to hang out as long as you like. You can also get a gear cart there, where the River site is a BACKPACK IN ONLY] There is a beautiful, half mile/15 min walk through the woods from the parking area to the site. **Note it is UP HILL going back! Parking is available, however NOT at the site, and it's NOT possible to drive to it.  You will need to CARRY in ALL your gear about a half mile so consider it like backpacking. There IS a fire ring with a grill on the beach for your use. Gather fire wood or request charcoal from us [or bring your own] Or, PADDLE IN! The Tye River is fantastic for paddling and you can pull boats right up to the site. Just ask and I can give you suggestions for put in and take out This is "ROUGH CAMPING"!! We do have a "luggable loo" to borrow. You are expected to remove and take away the liner and return the Loo clean. Pack everything in and OUT! *If you don't have appropriate hammock straps borrow from us or use padding to protect the trees. NO ROPES! They damage trees. [Check with us before booking as is weather and river level dependent]

We loved camping here! It was our kids first time and I wanted to find something where we weren't packed in with other campers or RVs. They have three sites on the whole property and overall it felt private. We were in the "woods" location which is basically a fire ring, picnic table, and two spots to pitch tents, in a very peaceful spot overlooking a small valley/creek and another hill on the opposite side. I would recommend packing reasonably light as there is a 5-10 minute walk down a huge hill to get to the woods campsite. The gear carts were a big help and I'm glad we didn't bring any more gear than we did. There is an outhouse a short walk away as well. There's room to explore (but not extensive hiking) and it was nice to have that option. We had so much fun at the river which is at the bottom of the property -- there was no one staying at that campsite so we had it all to ourselves.

This site was great to stay at. Just a few steps from the river in the woods. The hike down into the river isn’t too long, but i’m glad I packed in a ruck backpack. Stephanie’s son did a great job leading us down to the site and answering our questions.

We absolutely loved camping here! The stars were absolutely stunning. We especially enjoyed the trails they had that lead down to the river. We spent a lot of time hanging out on the big rock! This location is great, we were able to visit both the Shenandoah National park and George Washington Jefferson Forest during our 3 day stay. The property is well maintained and the owners are very responsive. I would definitely stay here again!

My partner and I really enjoyed staying on Stephanie's land. We loved camping by the river and hammocking there. It was very peaceful. It's a bit of a hike, but we're both up for the challenge. Totally worth it if you don't mind carrying your stuff for about 20 minutes. Also, the extra basket of goodies was delightful. Stephanie was a great host.

Stephanie’s land is beautiful! The camping spot in the field is nice and spacious, perfect for a bigger group. It’s also the spot closest to where you park, only a 5-10 minute walk. The river was a bit cold (end of May) but great for washing off. Stephanie and her son Emmett were also super friendly and helpful with providing us with recommendations. Nearby hikes include Crabtree Falls, The Priest, and Spy Rock.

We were a large group of hikers and this place was just perfect for us. The land is well maintained and it is close to gas stations and restaurants, and 30 mins away from Crabtree trail and Three Ridges.

My partner and I really enjoyed camping on Stephanie’s land and exploring all the options. We ended up in the field since that was the closest to where we parked the truck and had a decent amount of gear. Next time we would love to backpack in to the woods site or river site and take in the beauty of the property even more. We were the only campers there and felt very welcomed from the start. It was relatively close to Crabtree Falls and The Priest summit so ended up being the perfect spot to land for a few nights.

We had a great stay. We ended up staying in the woods instead of the field because it was so hot the weekend we visited. Stephanie proactively reached out with options on how to make our stay more comfortable given the forecast. The site was lovely and the river was delightful on such a hot weekend. We were hoping to tune, but the river was low, so we just splashed and caught tadpoles and explored - still great. It's a walk from parking to the site, but doable even with our non-minimalist car camping setup with Stephanie’s cart. The site is very simple - no amenities like a picnic table, so be sure to bring whatever you need to be comfortable. Would stay again!

We had a wonderful weekend camping in the woods! The river is a 5-10 min walk from the site and it was great place to cool off on this very hot weekend. Stephanie was lovely and very responsive. I definitely recommend the extra of having your gear transported to the site.

We loved tent camping in the woods at Twin Poplar Farm. It was so peaceful and quiet- (except for all the wildlife which we loved hearing). We spent one day tubing on the Tye which was amazing, and another day exploring and enjoying where the stream meets the river. Stephanie is a welcoming and knowledgeable host, and we are grateful she and Emmett shared their space. Guests should be aware that you DO have to carry in all of your gear to the campsite. It is a well maintained path, but the wooded area is quite steep in places. The gear cart made the trip doable, and I was glad our cooler had wheels. The farm fresh eggs were a nice touch. All in all, we had a wonderful few days and look forward to coming back!

We camped at the woods site, such a wonderful private place. The border of creeks and river make it very easy to know the boundaries while hiking. Stephanie was very thorough which helped ensure a great stay. The amount of spring ephemeral flowers was outstanding. We had a bit of wind and thunderstorms which made the river our second day not as appealing but when we viewed it the day before the storms it looked like a dream to swim and fish. We will be back!

We had the most WONDERFUL time staying on Stephanie's property. It was truly a gorgeous location. We enjoyed sitting by the fire for hours at night, and admiring the stunning stars. They truly were just remarkable. The property has lots to offer, and we enjoyed going on a hike to the creek + river on the property. Her site is also centrally located with a lot of fun things to do in the area. Stephanie was a kind and responsive host, had great recommendations, and went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. Also- we had several little kids with us ranging from 12mo-5yo... the walk is very doable, and its a great spot for kids. Would highly recommend!

We booked the River site, and while it has a small trek to the site, it is beyond worth it. I must admit I turn into a child when I’m near water, and want to look at all the fish, salamanders, and all other creatures. We had a great time sitting around the fire, wading through the river and just relaxing. Stephanie and her son were also fantastic hosts and were very available should and issues arise. If I could, I’d book every weekend!

Stephanie’s land by the Tye river is a gem! It’s a beautiful camp site right on the river-well maintained with a hammock and various spots to hang. Stephanie and her son Emmet are welcoming and knowledgeable about the river put ins and take outs if you want to tube and/or kayak. This is a very special place - highly recommend!

This property is truly a dream spot. Be sure to upgrade to use the tubes to float the Tye because it is a magical experience. The host is extremely kind and has created a true country oasis.

Stephanie was an amazing host! Very communicative and generous with her time and resources. My friends and I had a magical time. The campsite is beautiful-- very private and quiet (heard several barred owls at night!) and is close to lots of things to do during the day (river, hiking, breweries). The river is a quick walk from the campsite and is great for swimming, fishing, and frolicking. The walk to the campsite is pretty quick, but it is downhill, so be mindful to only pack what you are willing to carry back up the hill. Gear carts definitely come in handy. Thanks for a great weekend, Stephanie and Emmett!

We hammock camped at the woods site and had a great time. Had some luck fishing at the river and had a great time hanging out down there. This place is in a beautiful area and Stephanie was a great host. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Stephanie was such an amazing host. The basket of fresh fruit and eggs were so amazing to have as well. The property from the river to the field was incredible. I haven’t felt that connected to nature in a very long time. The stars at night were incredible. Saw 3 shooting stars! The tubing down the river was my favorite part. So many places to stop and explore. Saw and eagle and maybe a crane? Not a single human in sight the whole time which made it feel so much more peaceful. Definitely recommend to anyone. But pack light. It is a bit of a walk so only pack necessities. Thank you for this experience and reigniting the flame to get back to nature.

Beautiful spot right on the river- great spot for birdwatching, tubing, kayaking and swimming in the water! Stephanie is a gracious host and is a great communicator- responding within an hour to any messages/requests. Magical place.

We had so much fun this past weekend! We camped in the field and the stars were stunning. We were also able to do a wonderful tube down the river and swam at several points along the way. It was wonderful! We will definitely be back :)

My group had an incredible time at Twin Poplar Farms. We stayed on the field site and walked to the river during the day with tubes we brought. The stargazing from the field was by far the best part, tubing on the easily accessible river was a close second! Stephanie and Emmit were EXTREMELY helpful and hospitable.
