There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

The modern-day U.S. Route 250 roughly follows this route from Richmond to Charlottesville. Learn more about this land: In the heartland of Goochland where you can see deer from far and wide. Come pitch a tent in this gorgeous three acres of lush green Forestry surrounded and nature. Start your day listening to birds chirping, with the smell of fresh Virginia Air. (Though, for the record, we wear Birkenstocks too.) • “We were seen in towels.” Hmmm… which is why we gently suggest skipping the towel parades through camp. Our enclosed shower stalls are there for a reason: shower, dry off, then get dressed before rejoining the great outdoors. • “It was in somebody’s backyard.” Sorry — our two acres aren’t tucked away in the middle of a federally protected reserve in the middle of nowhere. But our closest neighbor is nearly 300 feet away, and we happen to think riverside camping with a little civilization nearby is a pretty great trade-off. ⸻ If those realities feel unacceptable, we wish you luck finding a soundproof, neighbor-free, bird-mute utopia. But if you’re after a laid-back, laughter-filled, and unapologetically outdoor getaway on the banks of the South River — welcome. You’ve found it. Don’t forget your robe.

I’m so happy I found this place! The tent was clean and very comfortable, and the private composting toilet was a huge plus. This was the perfect place to disconnect and enjoy the scenery. Also near some awesome, pet-friendly local breweries- specifically Bald Top and Blue Quartz. Host was super friendly and accommodating, but also gave us our privacy. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Sunrise by the Pond

Stayed with a friend and had a wonderful weekend camping at Sunrise by the Pond. Kevin was a great host and we had the place ourselves. Being on a farm was really cool especially getting some visits from the goats and donkeys during the day. There are a few dogs too and they're all very friendly especially Harley. Fishing and kayaking on the pond was amazing!!! Tent was nice and clean and kept us dry through a couple passing thunderstorms during our stay. Would definitely recommend and already thinking about making another trip ourselves.

Weekend Trip to South River Camp

This is what your wife means when she says she wants to go “camping”. enough roughage, but with the comfort of a queen bed and hot running water. although the streets did have traffic it wasn’t a deal breaker for us & we are already looking at coming back! just get past the fear people can see you bc they can’t it’s just the scary movies you grew up watching haunting you. Brought canned goods and hot dogs that we were able to make in the fire there! Napped in the hammock, but we didn’t get in the river but you can! ALSO boats do float the river so keep in mind when keeping the tent open …if you know what i mean. food near: Lil Guses 9/10, Bonobos bakery 1000/10 trails with swimming holes & water falls- The Blue Hole & South River Falls.

Weekend Trip to Wellness Cabins (3 to choose from)

This site was amazing! I spent a quiet weekend here with my partner and we loved all aspects of it. The cabin is somehow both small and spacious, and it had all the amenities we would have wanted. Having a mini fridge was a game changer for food prep, and Trevor was incredibly responsive and welcoming with any questions. We loved walking on the trails around the house and bird watching on the quiet benches around the trail. It does take a little but of climbing to get into the double bed, but once you’re up there it’s like a cozy little hideout :).

2 nights at South River Camp

My bestest bud, Diesel (9 ye old Rottie) and I had the BEST stay here. We had to book same day due to an issue with another site, Kim and Bobby were so accommodating. The bus is so beautifully done and blew away any expectations that I had... so incredibly welldone.. that we didn't want to leave. They have most anything you could possibly need (you just need your own cooking supplies.. they have a grill and a stove inside)! They were also very receptive to suggestions. We absolutely recommend this spot for a comfortable and easy stay. We would undoubtedly stay again!!

Fun country style room with complimentary food and drinks. Microwave and fridge toaster and coffee maker with coffee. Some fun couples games to play! Ac and the heater. And books to read.

Weekend Trip to Wellness Cabins (3 to choose from)

Staying at Trevor’s Geo Dome was an incredible experience! We came all the down from Baltimore for this getaway to celebrate our anniversary here and it did not disappoint. It was awesome. The sauna, hot tub, fire pit, and beautiful views of the meadow made it feel like our own little oasis. So much so that my partner popped the question! I could not think of a more special place to get engaged. I will remember this experience for a lifetime.

Both sites are fantastic. Amazing views from the summit, and the cabin at the small site is super cozy. Dave was very helpful and gave great recommendations for both great hikes and cool things to do in the towns near the site. I would absolutely stay here again.

The tent at sunrise by the pond is so cute, the pond (which was HUGE) is gorgeous, the animals were precious (including their dogs oh my gosh what sweethearts!) and Kevin was very kind and accommodating. Can’t recommend enough :)

Weekend Trip to Historic Hobby Farm

We loved the skoolie and the animals on the farm! The views were amazing and peaceful, and getting there was way easier than I thought. My wife and I enjoyed being shown around the animals and even got to feed the little lambs with milk. The hosts were super friendly and hospitable. The skoolie itself was very cozy and had everything we needed!

Sarah was a wonderful host and had everything ready for us. Her attention to detail with the cabin made the stay fabulous. Cabin was stocked with snacks and goodies. Appliances such as Kuerig, toaster, microwave and fridge were useful for us. The bed slept well too. AC and heater as needed. A highlight was seeing the baby goat, goat family and beautiful hens and roosters! We also enjoyed a swim in the pool. Floats were nice to have. My husband has myotonic dystrophy but everything was accessible as he brought necessary adaptive devices. The compost toilet and gas shower were nice. Good to see appreciation for the environment. The property is well kept. I really liked the wooded area with fire pit and the cozy reading room. Sarah has a nice touch for interior design as well. We will be returning here for a longer stay and hope to bring friends. Looking forward to the hot tub

2 nights at Historic Hobby Farm

We had such a blast on our visit to Laura and Jacob's farm! Thinking this may be an annual trip. Laura was an amazing host-- sharing the stories and habits of all the animals, who were incredibly sweet and well cared for. Definitely recommend the farm tour add on. It was such a treat to hold, brush, and feed the animals. My kiddo was thrilled. The school bus was very clean and comfortable. I was a little uncertain about the outhouse based on previous reviews, but it is clearly renovated and in excellent condition. Thank you for a wonderful adventure! Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Big Dipper Ranch camping - glamping

Loved camping there, great tents and amenities, remote feeling despite nearby breweries, wineries and small towns. Great host who checked in and provided some nice morning coffee our last day. Will definitely come back and recommend!
