We have a level site to enjoy. Our farm is bordered on 3 sides by water. The campsite is located on Peters Mill Creek. The back of our property is bordered by passage creek. It offers peaceful and private fishing for trout, bass, suckers and several varieties of pan fish. Cool off in the summer with a dip in the cool clean waters or relax and read a book with the sounds of nature. You can enjoy the cows, horses and goats who love the attention! However we ask you let us know before trying to pet or interact with the animals because we do have a Livestock Guardian Dog inside the fence with them and she is very protective of her herd. In the spring and summer we offer for sale fresh eggs and organic produce to our guest. Our property is located in the heart of Fort Valley. We have miles of hiking trails all around. There are 2 horse back riding camps in the area to offer a beautiful view of our area on horseback. The activities are endless. Several excellent wineries are within a short diving distance. There is a fire ring at each site and we provide a free bundle of wood to each guest with more bundles available for $4 each. A porta potty is also located on the property for our guest. Please read the rules and recomendations posted at the site when you arrive. There is no lifeguard on duty, so you swim at your own risk. Although the creek is pretty shallow most of the time, we ask that if you have children, they are supervised at all times, especially around the water. We think you will love our little piece of heaven and we look forward to your visit!

Pitch your tent on a wooded mountain knoll overlooking the Cacapon River surrounded by the Allegheny Mountains as far as you can see. The Cacapon River is a hidden scenic gem and the cleanest river in West Virginia. This is rugged West Virginia at its best. Wildlife abounds and it is common to see Bald Eagles, Black Bears, and Whitetail Deer. If relaxing on the ridge line and enjoying the views are not enough, hike down to the river via the powerline cut or trails and swim, paddle, or fish (WV license required...one day passes are available online). You can also hike the creek running through the deep hollow, which follows the state access road while enjoying dark Hemlock woods and shale cliffs. If you like to mountain bike, you will find the mountain access roads and trails offer you some back country riding fun. The campsite has nice level areas for pitching a tent and an established fire ring and picnic table. Trails allow one to hike in or drive (a four wheel drive is necessary to access the ridge line campsite). The campsite is very private, but it's possible you will see a friendly neighbor pass by on the trail or see folks staying at the cabin in the valley along the river flats if you go down to the river or you can get a bird's eye view of cabins in the valley across the river from the top. The campsite is no trace so you must bag out all garbage and waste. Cat holes and such are not permitted so campers must bring and use a camp toilet. During exceptionally dry periods, open fire restrictions may be put in effect. You will need a four wheel drive vehicle to access the site. If not, or in inclement weather (snow or heavy rains), you can hike in from the state road where the access road begins. Learn more about this land: The property's history dates back to pre-European settlement and was originally inhabited by Native Americans with archaeological evidence dating back at least 10,000 years. After European settlement, numerous of battles were fought in the area during the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and it was even a cross-roads for armies during the Civil War. Farming, sustenance farming, and logging were the primary industries throughout the region. Later, during the Industrial Revolution, the river, limestone, charcoal, and iron ore from the area fueled a local iron bloomery, which the area, "Bloomery," is still named. The land you are camping on was nearly completely logged over the last hundred years, but a few old growth trees can still be found throughout the mixed hardwoods forest. On the way to the campsite you will also pass the old original school house (now a hunting cabin) located on a neighbor's adjoining property. There are still a few old timers left that attended the one room schoolhouse as children, but the building predates them by many years. There is also an old Methodist Cemetery located on the property (not near the campsite) that dates back to the 1700s. If you happen to find this site, please do not disturb it.

Be happy to give you a tour of the mushroom farm. Learn more about this land: The wooded area is next to my house. There's about 4 acres to explore and a gravel road rarely traveled for a nice walk to a view for a great sunset. Harrisonburg is 5 minutes from here and has lots of night life, micro breweries etc. I have long power cords if you need electric at the campsite. You may hear owls hooting at night. The campsite is under white pines with a thick bed of pine needles. There are several campsites under the red cedar trees that are naturally bug and mosquito resistant. Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away if you go to the 33 entrance and 45 minutes away to go to the Luray entrance. Lots of bears there and hikes to waterfalls. No hunting there. Solar panels provide half of my energy needs. GW National forest has lots of hiking and mt biking and is half an hour away. Great views of the mountains from the campsite area. I'm dedicated to having lots of native plants and trees. I do not spray any pesticides. Plenty of free firewood. Not too far off interstate 81. I give tours of the mushroom farm whenever the weather isn't below freezing. I don't recommend anything larger than a conversion van. Very small pull behind campers are OK . All campers are required to leave every day from 1 to 5. Belongings may be kept here. There is a bathroom inside the house. No showers , please guys relieve yourself behind a tree instead of tying up a bathroom .. Harpine Highway is nearby and does have some trafffic noise but it's not close enough to discourage most campers.

General Lee and his troops once camped here. But they cleaned up pretty good, so all you can really see is the old spring and wagon road. This is a working herb and small fruit farm. We have been experimenting with all kinds of exotic herbs and trees. Some make it, many don't. We sell dried herb teas. In addition we have 5 different kinds of bamboo. We use the bamboo for so many things. Camptown is our largest site. It features a large fire pit and a circular field that can accomodate 10 to 15 or more tents. You can also park smaller camper vans, teardrops, etc. in this large area. Good for parties, family reunions. The "# person" per site listing considers adults, not children... bring a whole crew of kids (try to have enough supervision - if there is such a concept!) The kids have such a great time out here... it is amazing. They love the labyrinth! By the way, that labryinth entrance is behind the kiosk. It's the largest of it's kind in North America. It seems like we made this place for the kids in ourselves and when actual kids see it they go wild. The last bunch were running and yelping with their picked flowers all round and round in the labyrinth for hours! Weekend Trip to Shenandoah Valley MTN

My friend and I brought our pups up here for a night and can’t recommend it enough. The site is private, close to a few wineries/breweries, and has great views. Be sure to follow the 4WD guidance - we didn’t have to use it but I can see how rain a day or two before could make for an interesting drive up. The leaves this time of year also made it a bit slick. Overall, the campsite was exactly what we were hoping for and we’ll be back if camping in the area again!

Rented 4 days there but I left the next day because outsider tent me and my friend heard a bear roar but it was a great bonding experience. 10 out of 10 would recommend I'd give that bear a high five. But on a serious note, this place is very rugged be ready because there are bears out there

The site was spacious and private. The prepaid firewood was waiting for us next to our fire pit when we arrived. Carol was delightful and gave us a tour of the grounds, then gave us our space. The outdoor shower was an adventure as it was about 40° outside (but the hot water was nice!) It was a bit of a hike to the toilet, but worth it for the privacy surrounded by trees

Picnic table and fire pit. Feel free to move table and use any wood you find on the ground or in piles for a fire.

You can tell Donald is passionate about his land. We had an amazing time tent camping at Site 10. The site was extremely neat and tidy. Site 10 is perfect if you want an isolated camping experience. We will return! 4x4 vehicles recommended.

Weekend Trip to Beaver Cove

My husband and I had a wonderful time with our 3 dogs camping on Lynda's property for a weekend trip to Shenandoah! The dogs loved being able to run around and play off leash. We set up camp next to the creek where the fire pit was, and it was so quiet and peaceful. We did not use the electric but used the water spigot, which was just a short walk from where we set up camp. We definitely did not explore the property as much as we could have since we spent most of our time there relaxing by the fire after hiking in the national park, but it is absolutely beautiful and there is tons to explore! We hauled a pop up camper with a Ford Excursion, which worked great for us and we are used to doing this kind of thing, but I will say when Lynda says you need 4WD to get down the hill to the creek camping area she is not lying. Use your judgement. If you are not comfortable hauling something up and down a very steep hill and driving on a narrow dirt road, don't chance it. You can definitely get stuck. There is another area where you can set up camp and can still explore the property all the same! Shenandoah is just a short drive away, which makes this the perfect location. There is a road next to the property but it is a quiet back road - only a couple cars when by during our time there. We definitely recommend Lynda's property!!!

It was exactly what my friends and I needed for an overnight before heading to the National Park. The drive in was beautiful in the fall time and the chairs to sit on were an added bonus. We had a small car and it made it up the hills just fine. I would note that the drive into the National park was a little over an hour. It was neat though as the property did line up right with the park boundaries!

Charming rustic landscape with functional but quirky shower and compost toilet. Great option for those who want the convenience of car camping at a state park with more creature comforts than primitive, but much more privacy and quiet. Hosts are friendly, open minded and happy to share tools and gear to make your stay enjoyable. They are also knowledgable about local hikes, arts and wine country. Great stay for us and the dogs.

Weekend Trip to Shenandoah Valley MTN

One of the best camp sites I have ever been to! VERY family friendly. Exceptionally well maintained. Host was very responsive and provided clear directions on how to get to the site. Rocks denoted the location for the campfire. Great path to go for a hike in the morning. Close to the town to pick up graham crackers or whatever else you forgot before camping. However still felt very secluded. Could not say enough good things.

Tom an Carol were very nice. They showed us around and told us what we needed to know for the shower and the composting toilets. A very nice view of the night sky in the clearing with the barn house and chicken coup. The campsites themselves were tucked into the woods at the corners and felt private but not too far away if we needed anything.

Beaver cove was wonderful for my girlfriend and I. Lynda went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The lake, paddle boats, river and site just amazed us. We loved it here. Almost didn’t write a review because I don’t want everyone staying here! But cheers to Lynda, great work! The fishing was amazing btw

This was my second time coming to Donald's campsite and exploring the trails on the property, so needless to say I love it here. The bamboo cave is so cozy and special, and I so appreciate the firewood and jug of water that Donald provides. Plus, Donald is super communicative, so if you have any issues you'll be taken care of. Also: -There's a trail map at each campsite, so you can explore the property while visiting. -Convenient drive to all kinds of weekend exploring, from Shenandoah, to Lake Anna, to Prince William National Forest and plenty of breweries in between. I will definitely be back!
