Listen to the gentle brook and barred owls while nestled into the woods of Ashfield, MA on a small herbal homestead. The forest hut is a screened in platform that is lovely for camping on a warm summer's night. It has large windows and screens to keep out the bugs while enjoying a cool mountain breeze. There is a newly built composting toilet on site and small fire pit. This is not a cabin, no electricity, running water or plumbing. It is not well suited for winter camping unless you’re well equipped. BYO gear as there is not mattress or blankets in the shelter. We have a small farm store near the road filled with herbal teas, tinctures, gifts, chicken eggs, soaps, maple syrup and ghee. Take a swim in the Ashfield lake 1 mile away or visit the enchanting Chapel Falls on Trustees land just down the road in Williamsburg. Sweet Birch Herbals is a community herbal company offering workshops, apprenticeships, wellness consultations and hand crafted products including Full Moon Ghee. The 8' x 14' Studio, complete with an accessible entry ramp, offers an elevated porch overlooking the garden, Adirondack chairs, an outdoor kitchen with table, grill and two-burner camp stove as well as a fire pit. Cynthia is an amazing human and great conversation! Her farm is an amazing property. Absolutely worth stepping foot on. I slept better here than I have in a very long time. Great views all around. Was in the area to visit a family member in Amherst. This was a welcome place to camp at the end of a few busy, long days. Didn't get to experience and enjoy the property as much as I'd hoped (didn't have enough time during my days there). However, I'll gladly book this Hipcamp again! Cynthia greeted me upon arrival, and showed me where the bathroom was (it's a nice walk through a very well kept horse barn). She even turned on the bathroom heater before I got there (my stay was during fall nights that got a bit cold). I car camped in an SUV and had no problem finding a level spot to park and set-up my sleeping area for the night. Lighting at night on the property felt safe and bright...but not TOO bright.

Frank and Julie were the picture of hospitality! They were engaging to talk to, so curious about our lives, kind, and great at checking in about miscellaneous needs we might have (like do we have enough camp supplies, etc). We enjoyed our stay in our pop-up camper at Cynthia's place. The land is really level, with easy pull through parking. The bathroom that's available was very clean and convenient. We had fun exploring the stream and watching the horses.

Starwind Farm was a beautiful place to park our camper for the evening! It was nice having access to a bathroom in the tack room, and it was super quiet and peaceful. Directions were easy to follow and the host was responsive. I'd happily recommend to future campers.

Before diving back into the grind, we snuck away for one last summer retreat—and the Studio delivered. Secluded yet convenient: It felt like cabin camping, but with real home comforts (think hot showers and no hole-digging required). The Studio was 15 minutes from a supermarket, 5 minutes from a local market, and just 3 minutes from fresh eggs and frozen meat that made our mouths water. Natural entertainment: We nibbled wild blackberries along the property trails, stepped into the barrel sauna for a sweat session with a hit of aromatherapy bliss (ahhh), and watched flames dance in the fire pit while stars twinkled overhead. Mornings came with surround-sound birdsong and a picture window framing trees doing their best shimmy show. Hospitable hosts: Missing camping skills? No problem—the hosts had us covered. They shared spot-on local recommendations tailored to our interests and left thoughtful surprises (which we’ll let you discover for yourself). This place definitely earned a spot on our repeat list.

We tent camped at the Tayo Arena Site and it was great! Nice grassy field with close-by access to drinking water and our own bathroom. The farm was quiet and peaceful, wish we had stayed longer to explore the river area and the many trails nearby! Close to downtown Easthampton.

We had a great weekend getaway in this cute forest hut! The hut and privy were stocked with everything we needed for a weekend. The town of Ashfield is also very quaint. The hut is fairly close to the Airbnb house, so if you're looking for an isolated stay in the woods, this may not be far enough from others as you'd prefer.

Staying at the Forest Hut was a magical experience. The hut was cozy and romantic with the fairy lights, views of the light through the trees, and sounds of nature lulling us to sleep. The privy was clean and comfortable. Swinging in the hammock sipping coffee and reading a book was never better. Host is just lovely and her garden/apothecary made it extra special!

Weekend Trip to Forest Hut in Western Mass

I loved staying at the kuti for a night! It was my first time camping totally solo and I felt very safe and secure at this spot. The land is beautiful, and I appreciated the things that were provided (picnic table, paper/matches for fire building). I got some awesome herbal products and eggs from the farm store. It was so quiet and peaceful at night. The composting privy was very neat and clean. It was perfect for a solo camp, and I could see it also being nice for a couple, parent-kiddo, or close friends. It felt spacious for just me but would definitely be tight quarters for more than 2 people. I’d love to come and stay again!
