Our property, Windswept Acres, has been a favorite destination for literally generations of visitors, whether staying in a room in the farmhouse, a bunk in the barn, or "glamping" in our Sugar House.
One of those decades-long regulars asked several years ago whether they could locate their RV next to the road on a knoll overlooking our upper pond, and we told them "sure". They own a building company, and were good enough to bring a crew up to prepare the site. They laid pipes to one of our spring-fed wells for water, conduit for both electricity and phone, dug a dry well for grey-water, and moved onto the site for several years.
After then they chose to move to a traditional structure further up the hill, and left behind a fully-equipped spot perfect for campers and RVs that we have offered to visiting family and guests!
Easily accessible from a dirt road, your shaded site overlooks an acre pond. You are surrounded by lawns, open fields and hills with a small barn across the road from you. The pastures support horses, cattle, sheep and chickens
in your neighborhood. The ponds are both great for fishing, and the large one for swimming and canoeing as well. There are trails through the woods and logging roads to be explored on foot or bike. A walk up to the top of the hill affords near-360-degree views.
[Note for RV/trailer users: We are at the top of a 1.7 mile hill, of which more than a mile is dirt and the last half die or so is steep. We do NOT recommend pulling anything up this hill
with front wheel drive vehicles, especially in wet conditions. If there is any question, be sure to message us for more info.]
[Note for GPS-reliers: some GPS devices try to send people up the back side of the hill, which is not an adequate road for any RV or even some cars. Your route should take you to Beacon Hill Road via VT route 110. it should NOT take you to Beacon Hill Road via Brook Road!]

Free Verse Farm is a hilltop herb farm run by two art-making, herb-loving farmers. We also invite you to explore our cultivated fields of herbs and vegetables and become acquainted with the wide variety of tea, culinary, and medicinal herbs that we grow and process on our farm. You can also visit with the cows that spend their summer munching our delicious green pastures.
Our full line of herbs and herbal products are for sale via our website or at Free Verse Farm Shop, located just one mile from our farm in downtown Chelsea. Our Farm Shop offers a wide variety of fresh produce, provisions, fresh baked goods, alcoholic (& non-) beverages, and more to enjoy during your stay or as you continue on your journey.
AMENITIES: we offer a hot outdoor shower & sink, as well as an outhouse with a composting toilet. Each campsite has a firepit and a picnic table.
CAMPSITE DETAILS: We currently have 2 campsites open. They are located in meadows with beautiful views of the First Branch Valley and Chelsea village. 4 wheel drive is recommended, but not necessary, and you are always welcome to hike up to your site. The site is spacious and private.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: We also run Free Verse Farm Shop (OPEN: Tuesday-Friday 11am-6pm, Saturday 9am-3pm), a local grocery, café, and apothecary to serve our community and visitors to the area, while supporting local farms and artisans. You can also pre-order online (shop.freeversefarm.com) to pick up in store or ship your order around the USA.
The village of Chelsea hosts a weekly summer farmers market May-September on Fridays from 3-6pm (mid-May through September). In downtown Chelsea there is gas station (110 Quickstop), two town commons, a small library, and a general store (Will's Store), and a farm stand (Chicken Wiggle Farm).
Within 20-45 minutes of our farm you can reach the larger towns of Montpelier (state capital), South Royalton, Randolph, Woodstock, White River Junction, and the Upper Valley Region (Dartmouth College), all of which offer a wide variety of attractions and services. Upon your arrival, you will be given a welcome packet with more detailed information about our area, and we'll be happy to provide you with any other tips you're looking for.

The camp sites are private from each other with a large common area at the top of the hill with a fire pit, lean-to shelter, outhouse complex with water for hand washing (seasonally available) and sweeping views of the Green Mountains.
There are trails for hiking and mountain biking (no dirt bikes or ATV's) all over the farm and a beautiful brook in a sheltered mountain valley. Just a 5 minute drive to the bottom of the hill is the first branch of White River; a beautiful clean river for swimming and fishing crossed by multiple covered bridges that lead to the farm.

Four Springs Farm is a working organic farm on a beautiful west-facing hillside in central Vermont. Walk-in tent camping sites are tucked away in private corners of the farm a reasonable distance from the parking areas. The centrally located Wash Houses have toilets and hot showers. A picnic pavilion, which has a spectacular view of the valley and the hills of the Green Mtns, is available for group gatherings and celebrations and has a sink area for guests to use.
Visitors are invited to tag-along-on-chores and meet the poultry sharing the farm with all of us and explore the seventy acres of paths, fields, streams, and woods. Guests will be dazzled by star-studded skies, treated to spectacular sunsets, and entertained by the farm cat Luna. The farm is mosquito free but inhabited by millions of fireflies. It's nature's playground at her best.
Our season opens the last weekend in April and closes around the end of October.
Wildflower Tent Site
is a mowed area in one corner of a hillside field. Hammock campers would have a woods location for their use. It is located near the Wash Houses with it's own back door path, Watercress Crossing, over a small stream. There are no lights on the farm and this open spot is perfect for star gazing. There is a 10 x 12 foot tent platform, picnic table and fire pit.
Morning Sunrise
is the largest site and can hold ten tents easily on a relatively level grass area. It is protected from the heat of a late summer day and open to accept the first sunshine hitting the farm in the morning. Groups of multiple families, friends celebrating a special occasion, cycling groups and scouting organizations as well as individuals use this site to be slightly set apart from the heart of the farm activities. There is a picnic table and a firepit with space around it for a gang.
Hidden Meadow
is the most isolated and smallest tent site accessed by it's own bridge and unseen from most of the farm. Though not in the woods it feels tucked away
and is ideal for couples or singles as it has room for only one tent ( on a 10 x 12 foot platform) and has a picnic table and fire pit. Maximum guests- three.
Plum Corner
as indicated by it's name is accessed along a path through the plum orchard. It is tucked up next to an old barn site with a stately old yellow birch defining the corner. It is ideal for families because of it's spaciousness and multiple tent options. There is one tent platform - 10 x 12 feet, a picnic table and fire pit.

It is here that we run Roots School, a wilderness earth skills school, instructing adults and youth alike.
The land has over a half a mile of river frontage and several streams, a beautiful varied forest, rambling topography, and plenty of wildlife. Many lessons in tracking may be found as whitetails, moose, black bear, fishers, bobcats, porcupine, coyotes, foxes, mink, ermine, snowshoe hare, wild turkey, and ruffled grouse, are seen and tracked. We have two sites on our historic Vermont trout farm. The first site sits near our post and beam "run in" horse barn. It's a very flat site with easy road access and has 30 AMP electric service and we can provide potable water to fill up your tank. The second site sits a little further back (also very easy access) and closer to Quation Brook. It is better suited for boondocking as it is a little ways from the 30 AMP outlets. Again water is available. Our farm is very rural but close (2 miles) to interstate 89 with a well stocked country store in town. It's a quiet setting near the gardens and a small stream. We are a small hobby farm that grows and sells produce to local coops. We also produce and sell Vermont maple syrup and salsa.

Truly one of a kind place. A place to commune with the water and the Vermont landscape. Great base for exploring VT and taking some time to recharge. Chapin is thorough and straightforward with what to expect and what you might need. The wood fired tub is quintessential paired with the cold mountain brook. The tent is simple but robust and cozy to sleep in. Miss it already.

Weekend Trip to The Hollow at Dynamite Falls
Chapin was very responsive and made everything very easy. The site was absolutely beautiful. Hanging out in the hammocks at the bottom of the hill next to the brook with the fire going can't be beat. Highly recommend checking this place out if you love experiencing the peace and awe of the green mountains as much as I do!

The A frame is my new favorite place to be! The land is large and quiet enough to feel very very private. It’s well maintained, clean, and beautiful. There was plenty of water and firewood, as well as a large expanse of woods to gather sticks. This is my second time at the A frame and can’t wait to come back next year for my annual camping trip!

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at this site! The layout was beautiful. The wood-fired hot tub was the highlight for us, but our two goldens would probably say their’s was the river! It was absolutely beautiful and we couldn’t get them out of it the whole time we were there! We got to meet Chapin, his wife, and a couple of their friends. They were so warm and welcoming. Our goldens even got to have a play session with Chapin’s dog, which they loved! We highly recommend this place!

We had an excellent weekend getaway at this campsite, even with the rainy weather. The property is exceptionally well maintained, and there is no shortage of amenities and activities to enjoy. The host clearly takes great pride in both the property and the guest experience.
When a rainstorm passed through, we were able to relax comfortably under our tent at the picnic table and still enjoy our time outdoors. During the warmer parts of the day, a walk through the creek was a refreshing way to cool off and explore the beautiful surroundings.
We truly enjoyed our stay and appreciate the care and attention that has gone into creating such a welcoming camping experience. We will definitely be back!

Lovely location! Clear water, soft pine trails, spacious and clean accommodations. Everything was so thoughtfully cared for. Very inspiring and settling. One recommendation: the tent is dark, even in the daytime, and gets darker earlier because of the way it is situated on the slope, so be sure to bring sufficient lighting. Thanks to Chapin for a memorable experience.

Weekend Trip to The Hollow at Dynamite Falls
We hiked! We hot tubbed! We ziplined! Cold plunged in the waterfall on the mountain side! Explored the whole entire brook. Cooked all meals on the open fire, slept beautifully in the queen sized bed. The hike to the tent was very steep, pack a little lighter than we did lol 🤪 so much fun! Once in a lifetime kind of stuff ❤️❤️

Highly recommend Free Verse Farm! The valley views, sunsets and stars are incredible. We stayed at the Meadow campsite which was spacious and beautifully maintained. Campers that stayed at the Forest Edge campsite had to drive past our site to get in and out but it did not bother us at all. The compost toilet was clean. The host was responsive and attentive, and the whole property was peaceful, even on the weekend. The road up is a little rugged, so high-clearance vehicles are ideal. An amazing Vermont getaway!

Awesome quiet spot nearby lake fairlee and lake morey. Like a VT state park, the site had a fire ring and a picnic table. Very cute and cozy.
