Indian Canyon Ranch is a rugged, isolated, off grid property which focuses on enjoying the outdoor beauty of our little corner of the spectacular American Southwest.
Please be advised, that during heavy rain four-wheel drive may be necessary but in all cases low clearance vehicles are not ideal on the last section of road but if you go slow any vehicle can make it. The good news is that we have done a major upgrade on the road and it's much less intimidating now but If you arrive after dark the last bit of road still looks more challenging than it actually is due to shadows on the surface caused by the head lights. Please plan to show up before dark for the best experience and ease of finding the location. Units are not heated, please bring drinking water but water is available in the bathroom and kitchen.
Indian Canyon Ranch is proud to be an independent, off grid property with limited solar power and water available. There are no RV hook ups available but there is limited solar power in the rental units and in the communal area but not in the primitive campsites. Campsites are primitive camping only. Showers in the main communal area are solar powered and only hot with the sun and for an hour or so after sunset. Please conserve water at all times.
Joe purchased this property in 2008. At that time, it was 8 acres, and it is now at 20 acres continuous property. The ranch is situated 2 miles off the highway down a bumpy dirt road on the edge of the national forest, this gives you a feeling of being in the wilderness. The south and east sides are boarded by canyons and ruins. All other private properties in the area are 10 acres or more so are well spread out and sparsely populated.
All the structures on site were brought here piece by piece and were salvaged from construction projects in Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks. Water is manually hauled in and the power in the kitchen area is solar generated so please be conscious of water and power use.

We are a husband-and-wife team that purchased raw land in 2020 and have been building Glamping Canyonlands ever since. We privately own and operate a sustainable off grid property. We proudly run our business off solar power. We have a recycling and compost program along with happy pasture raised chickens and free range kittens. We work to reduce waste by supporting businesses that focus on the environment, health and using non-plastic products where we can. We use simple, clean, natural cleaning products. We do not use single use plastic and provide washable cotton paper towels and hand towels. We work with locals to bring you tours, pastries, breads and hand crafted souvenirs for you to remember your trip.
We have a mix of different unique units so there is something for everyone. 3 bell tents, 1 stargazing lotus tent, 1 safari tent, cedar pod, moon stargazing barrel, solar powered casita and an unfurnished high rise tent. We have 22 acres and we are currently using around 5 acres. We like to space out our units so there is privacy at every units.
We have a communal kitchen that is equipped to make some gourmet meals. Flat top grill, BBQ Box, pizza oven and a stove.
Communal modern bathrooms with hand towels and bath supplies are available.
Sauna is available to our guests along with coffee and breakfast delivery.
Late check-ins are available.

The Moab Field Office, administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), takes up 1.8 million acres of gorgeous canyon-riddled lands. Spend your days hunting for natural arches and bridges, exploring mesas, and contemplating how the heck rocks can look so crazy. Come camp Where The Wild Things Camp! Let the awe-inspiring views of the majestic slick rock, sage and juniper surround you in the peace and quiet of this beautifully secluded desert space. Centrally located to the best Canyonlands has to offer, our camp is located on 25 acres less than half a mile from Looking Glass Arch, a popular rock climbing destination which got its name from the conquistadors who would climb to the top and look through a “looking glass” for landmarks that would lead them back to Santa Fe.
Moab is 25 miles to our North, about a 30 minute drive. The nearest convenience store/gas station is in the tiny town of La Sal, 12 miles NE of us. Although the Lasal Jct. now has burger truck, showers, ice and snacks. The nearby La Sal mountains rise to over 12,000 in elevation and is a great place to get out of the heat and enjoy lakes surrounded by beautiful pine and aspen forests.
As the name suggests, Where The Wild Things Camp truly is wild and not for everyone. We are off grid, meaning there is NO electricity, no drinking water, and only "spotty" cell phone service is best just anywhere before bathrooms. Make sure to check the weather forecast before coming out and be prepared for anything as the weather here in the desert can be unpredictable and ALWAYS stake down your tents! Porta-Potty's available. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRACTICE PACK-IT-IN AND PACK-IT-OUT. Trash service not available.
NON-AGGRESSIVE dogs are always welcome, however please keep in mind that a lot of our wild friends also live here, such as coyotes, rattlesnakes, deer and antelope. We wouldn’t want your pets or our friends harmed in any way!
From Moab: Drive south on Hwy 191 for approximately 23 miles and turn right (east) onto Looking Glass Rd/Co. Rd. 131 (It will be the first right after La Sal Junction) Continue on this road for 1.4 miles until you see a wide gravel road branching off to the left. Turn left, this road will branch again in .03 miles, turn to the right and continue straight (another .5 mile to WHERE THE WILD THINGS CAMP!!

What we offer: In addition to an exceptional view of the mountain, our place is clean, spacious, orderly, quiet, inexpensive, with super fast and stable WiFi. What we don’t offer: fancy landscaping or restrooms.
The Adventure Haven feels open, public and safe to most people. Funky and rural, in high pristine desert with a sweet view of the mountain is the overall vibe. Hours can go by with no traffic noise. This is in contrast to the constant drone of traffic noise in Moab. We are also about ten degrees cooler than Moab with nights cooling off even more; what a relief!
The Adventure Haven is a five site mini-RV park located in an old and somewhat derelict subdivision in a small town on a 1.5 acre lot. A uranium boom town in the 1950's, La Sal is now a shadow of past times (and littered with artifact trailers and structures). But we are in beautiful high desert country and we are at the foothills of the La Sal Mountains and the park has a completely unobstructed view of this range!
What kind of people LIKE it here? Those who like peace and quiet and dark skies. Relaxed full-time RVers, work-at-homes who need strong and fast WiFi, folks on a budget, those who like to support Hipcamp hosts, people looking for inside local information, solo travelers who want to feel safe yet not in a crowded place - like they’re near someone they know, and in a quiet, small town where unusual things are noticed.
What kind of people DON’T like it here? People expecting a resort, or a vast-pristine-remote property. Also people who are uncomfortable with rural eye-sores typical of rural Utah (old cars, and slow projects) will not like it here, nor will party people and special event groups (not allowed here).

This Outpost and campground is located on 300 acres of private property surrounded by park and public land. It has been here for over 30 years in some form or another. We are Caleb & Amber who enjoyed managing this little oasis in the middle of the desert from March to June of 2017 when we decided to purchase the business & make it our own. This is a dry, rugged campground with a bathhouse that provides coin operated showers and flush toilets. In addition there is little old rustic camp store placed in the middle of nowhere where we provide fuel, snacks, firewood, ice, showers, cold drinks & more.
If you are looking for a more private site with lots of space and shade, book our Small Group at the Rocks. For a warmer stay during the cooler months book one of our Glamping Tents listed. We have the larger, and spacious tent in the grove of the Juniper Trees (which is also amazing in the warmer season) and rent a heater from us inside the general/camp store. Please check with us on fire restrictions, hipcamp is often wrong on their assumptions, we rarely have fire restrictions.

These hosts were so helpful! He was literally waiting for us upon arrival. We were out in a spot requiring some maneuvering so he took up to that spot first to make sure we were comfortable with that. He had good tour info available with helpful suggestions on things to do in the area. They don’t have laundry but happily referred us down the street to another campground. I’d definitely stay here again. We were about 30 min outside of Moab and the scenery was gorgeous. Thanks for all your help.

Great spot for an overnight in Blanding! The spaces were all well lit and clearly marked. My neighbors were respectful. I was very impressed with how clean the bathroom was; I've spent many a night with poorly maintained facilities and it shows when hosts take care of their property. The proximity to Blanding (with a grocery store and wellness center where I could shower) makes this site a gem. I will absolutely be booking in the future! 10/10!

Other than one other camper in a tent, there was nobody else in the campground. It was very quiet and got the best nights rest of our trip so far. Found a cactus plant nearby that was in full bloom brilliant red and beautiful. The Porta potty was actually quite clean and found it to be in one of the more desirable conditions of any porta potty I’ve used.

It is off the beaten path and far quieter than the RV park for sure. Access is pretty straight forward from getting there to the final parking spot. Sites are spread out and have lots of native trees and shrubs to screen the neighbor. Still some work being completed on the property when we were there but host is doing a good job keeping it clean and orderly.
The bathrooms and showers are clean and well kept and on the minimalist side, but that’s what drew you to this site in the first place.
Host is friendly and attentive.

Weekend Trip to Glamping Canyonlands
Everything was incredibly streamlined and the amount of detail thought out into this space is incredible. Finding the space and late check in was breeze. The owners are super friendly and there's wonderful details like a towel rack, a small mirror, outside and inside extra blankets in your tent. They provide soap AND lotion in the bathrooms. My partner and I were able to reserve the sauna which my partner cants stop raving about! I thought it was a bit too hot for me who's not used to saunas, but a quick rinse in the cold shower outside and I was much better off! Definitely a unique luxury item you don't get most places. I glamped one other time and there one propane lasted most of the night in the heater, but here I went through two propane's in one night. So if you're worried about the cold, make sure you have plenty. But also their comforter and blankets are plenty warm too! I found actually didn't need the heater on our second night. Lastly, the bed was surprisingly super stiff BUT somehow it was exactly what my body needed and I now miss it back at home! Can't wait to come back!!!! Would recommend to anyone and everyone!!!

Great view! Book campsites 1 to 4 to have the best view. Sites are close together but its a good spot. You can hear traffic from main road, but it was a PERFECT spot for a quick nights sleep on the way from Moab to Monument Valley.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The site was level, it was very peaceful and quiet and the porta-potty was very clean and well stocked. That was a pleasant surprise!

Great spot! Easy to get to, lots of different sites to choose from, warm showers, and the view is incredible. The owners were very kind and full of interesting history about the area. Would definitely stay again!

There were only 4 spots occupied when we were there, so it was very quiet. We never met Cassie and Evan, but you can see their efforts as it is well maintained and organized. It’s on a dead end road so no noise from that, just a little cattle and horse chatting. Nice hike to a natural bridge and further down is a Five Kiva built into the canyon. Walk (or drive) down the road, turning right as you exit the campground. They are both marked with signs, but if you choose to hike to the natural bridge, go to the left at the trailhead, following along the gorge.

I like being away from the crowds in Moab and enjoyed the wide open spaces at the Wild Hipcamp location just south of town. Plenty of room, great views, and yet close enough to easily get to Arches & Canyonlands National Parks.
