A basketball court for burning off energy. Starlink WiFi across the property (a real luxury this close to wilderness). Farm Camp Near Maple Canyon

16. Farm Camp Near Maple Canyon

43mi from Utah Lake State Park · 1 site · Tent, RV
Situated on a working family farm in Fountain Green, Utah, at nearly 6,000 feet of elevation, Hansen Hollows sits just 15 minutes from Maple Canyon—one of the world's premier sport climbing destinations, with over 550 routes ranging from beginner-friendly 5.4 climbs to elite 5.14 routes. When the Maple Canyon campground fills up—and it does, fast—this is your base camp. The farm itself is worth the stay on its own. Elk herds move through at dusk, wild turkeys patrol the brush line at dawn, and the Milky Way stretches from horizon to horizon overhead on clear nights. The Sanpete Valley spreads out below, with the Wasatch Plateau rising behind the property. This is authentic high-desert Utah at its finest—sagebrush, scrub oak, native grasses, and genuinely dark skies. Hansen Hollows has been in the same family for generations. The land carries that history in every weathered fence post and irrigation channel. You're not staying at a resort—you're camping on real, working agricultural land where the seasons still matter and the quiet is genuine. Whether you're here to climb, hike, stargaze, or simply disconnect from everything, Hansen Hollows gives you the space and the silence to do it properly. ⚠️ ACTIVE FIRE RESTRICTION — UPDATED JUNE 25, 2026 Sanpete County is currently under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, effective June 12, 2026. Campfires and all open fires using solid fuels are prohibited until further notice. This includes use of the fire ring at Hansen Hollows. Propane stoves with a shut-off valve are permitted when used at least 3 feet from flammable material. We will update this listing immediately when the restrictions are lifted. Please check the current status at utahfireinfo.gov before your visit. Thank you for helping protect this land and our community during an extremely dangerous fire season.

Utah Lake State Park camping guide

Overview

About

If you’ve spent any amount of time in the West, you probably know that finding a good lake isn’t quite as easy as it is in other parts of the country. Utah Lake State Park is here to soothe your woes, though, because its boundaries are home to one of the largest freshwater lakes in the region (and the area only receives an average of 15 inches of rainfall per year—isn’t nature amazing?!). Early settlers were amazed by this place, too. In fall of 1776, one member of the Dominguez-Escalante party arrived here and exclaimed, "This place is the most pleasant, beautiful, and fertile in all New Spain." Preach on, Bernardo Y. Pacheco! So, come on out and see what all the fuss is about. Bring some friends, too, because you’ll want to share this special place with your outdoor-loving crew. Spend your days playing on the water, and your nights relaxing at one of the many camping areas. Life doesn’t get much better.

When to go

The best time to visit Utah Lake State Park is during the warm summer months when the lake's waters invite for swimming and boating. Spring and fall offer cooler temperatures ideal for fishing and picnics. Winters can be cold, with limited access to some park facilities.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's Facebook page or website for the latest updates on construction and accessibility.
  • Be aware of the park's safety regulations, especially when participating in water activities.
  • Remember to pack sunscreen and water, as the area can be sunny and dry.
  • For fishing enthusiasts, a valid Utah fishing license is required to fish within park boundaries.
