We were grateful for the electric hookup in Elena's place after a few days in Big Bend! We did not get to meet Elena but her mom was very nice and helped us get situated. Simple setup and walking distance to restaurant. What else can you want!

I really enjoyed camping here. It is a great location and was very clean. I appreciated the shade structures. It was calm and quiet, especially at night. The only thing I hated was that there was an awful smell one of the nights we stayed here. Maybe it was the porta-potty? The wind blew it into my campsite, and it was really gross. Justin was very friendly and I enjoyed chatting with him when he stopped by our site to say hello. Would definitely stay here again!

Amazing place to stay 3 mins away from the entrance to the national park, staff super friendly and knowledgeable. The restrooms were clean and the showers are amazing with a view of mountains. I don’t think i would stay anywhere else when i come to visit the park

Weekend Trip to Goat Pens, Cigar Springs Ranch

Jeff, the camp host, was very responsive to questions. We found the camping area to be as advertised. One drawback is that the tent sites are exposed to wind and we had high winds both nights that were strong enough to break some tent poles. Adding some windbreaks would be a great addition to the campground. If our group plans another trip to Big Bend we will definitely look at booking here first.

We booked this place as a back up site, and unfortunately had to cut our trip short and we’re not able to stay at the site. The owner was great to deal with. Great communication, great info about the site, and great directions that I was able to plug right into OnX. I will book this site again for sure, but come back when it is a little cooler.

We enjoyed our stay at the Little Burro again. The sites are clean and well kept and the views were fantastic as usual. We also got to meet a new addition to the resident burro herd. Baby, Dusty is adorable. If you are looking for a great spot to camp, I highly recommend Little Burro.

First off Jeff is one hell of a human and outside of that this property is insanely beautiful! There is so much to explore. If you decide that you need a bite to eat there are a few restaurants in town that are pretty good. Only about 10 min away. We got caught in a storm out there but didn’t let that bring us down. If you have the space for it account for an extra tent to be on the safe side. Our tent ended up getting destroyed in the crazy wind and rain but our friend ended having another tent for us to use.

Weekend Trip to Crows Peak Tents

INCREDIBLE!!! I can't say enough great things about this site or these hosts! A truly wonderful experience. The tents are super cool and very secure - it felt like being on Safari. Such a pleasure to be able to lay in bed and watch the sunset and sunrise. The views are incredible and the pictures don't do them justice. The hosts are super accommodating and friendly too - 10/10 recommend!!

This was a great spot to camp for traveling into big bend for hiking each day - roughly a 30min drive in. Clean area, showers, and bathrooms were a plus! The camp sites are far enough apart to make it feel like we were still in our own space with zero noise issues. There weren't any goats but there is a SUPER sweet pup named Pepper that visited us.

Stay Awhile Ranch

Unplug at this camping destination, perfectly situated near Terlingua and Big Bend. This site has plenty of space for tent camping, whether camping solo or with a group. Land includes not only amazing 360 views, but also a shade structure with solar lighting, picnic table, composting outhouse, hammock posts to hang your own hammocks, fire pit and grill. BYO-tent & beer! Views of Nine Point Mesa, Black Mountain and more and just minutes away from Little Country Burro Store. Check us out on IG @stayawhileranch While the property does have a shade structure and outhouse, this is still considered primitive and off-grid camping. There is no electricity or water and little to none cell signal. It's the perfect place to unplug and relax while being surrounded by mountainous views with Nine Points Mesa, Black Mountain and more. You will need to bring your own tent, food and water, hammock and other camping essentials. The shade structure will provide relief from the sun and shelter from rain. It has solar powered lights that will turn on automatically at night and provides the perfect amount of light for sitting at the picnic table for a game of dominoes or cards while enjoying a cold drink at night. The hook and string game is also set up on one of the posts to enjoy. You can put up two hammocks at the hammock station - a perfect place to relax and take in the mountainous views and enjoy the dark night sky. On clear nights you can see the Milky Way! Hammocks are not provided. There is a composting outhouse that is covered. There is intentionally no door so you can take in the views of Black Mountain. Do bring toilet paper. Two chairs are provided for use around the fire pit. You are welcome to source any kindling from the property. Please burn responsibly as winds can pick up and do not leave the property without completely extinguishing any fire. Do not burn if Brewster County is under a burn ban. There is also a grate for grilling over the campfire as well as a charcoal grill you may use. Bring your own charcoal. There is also a bin that has misc supplies such as games (dominoes and cards), cooking utensils, extra batteries, first aid kit, and more that are available to use. Please wash any cooking supplies if using and pack everything back in before you leave. If you need to connect to the outside world, the Little Country Burro Store is about a 10 minute drive and has wifi. It's a great place to grab more ice and other goods too. There is also the Cottonwood General Store about 30 mins away that has a larger food selection and other items. I also recommend stopping at the Porters grocery store in Alping on your way in - they have a great beer selection. There is access to a full service bathroom with showers ($2 per person), a pool to cool down in ($8.50 per person), washer/dryer (coin operated) and a restaurant at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge. The American Legion Post across the highway is a great place to have a cold drink and chat with locals. You will have access to all 10 acres of the property. There is room for multiple tents if traveling with a group. The roads leading up to the property are dirt roads. To get to the property, an AWD or high clearance vehicle is not required although it is recommended if you plan on doing further exploring on the surrounding dirt roads. Monsoon season is during the summer - please be aware of the weather around your trip. In my experience, I've still been able to get to and from the property after a rain but it can make for harsh driving conditions. It is always a good idea to come with a tire plug kit and small portable air compressor. The property is secluded. It is part of Terlingua Ranch but there's a good chance you won't come across anyone on the roads while getting to and from, but always please be respectful to our neighbors. It can get windy - make sure you stake your tent and be aware of what you're leaving out overnight or when you leave the property. Dogs are allowed, but be aware of the harsh environment and do not leave your dog unattended. You can often hear coyotes at night and it is mountain lion country. We often bring our black lab Mack and he has a great time, just make sure you're bringing plenty of water for your pups and check paws for cactus needles. Do keep in mind that if you plan on visiting Big Bend National Park that dogs are not allowed on the trails. Please pick up after your dog, waste can be placed with the outhouse waste. We practice pack it in and pack it out and expect you to do the same. Take any and all trash back out with you and leave the property ready for its next guest. If the American Legion Post is open, you may be able to tip them extra and dump your trash there. You are also expected to dispose of your outhouse waste. More info about that will be provided as it gets closer to your stay and trust me, it's not as gross as it seems!

This is an OFF GRID living situation, So pull out those tents and enjoy the mountain views surrounding the property. The property is very flat and will not need 4X4 to access, but an SUV or truck would be best. There are 3 other campgrounds that are spaced out from each other but all share the same entrance. If in a group of 6 or more I can reserve the entire property so you all can experience the area without other disruptions. There is something for everyone to feel free to bring the whole family. DIRECTIONS: Once you are on Road Runner Circle, go past the house on the left with the Christmas lights on. Please continue down the road and follow the road around the curve to the left. The campsites will be on the left and side behind the rock walls. The campsite number that is booked is the campsite you will stay in. Additional details to note: - We now have an above ground pool to keep cool in during the summer! Covered with a shade sail the water stays nice and chilly. ($10 fee/person) - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception and wifi are both available by the showers. Feel free to unplug during your stay though. - Seeing other campers on your trip at the campsite is very standard, as the sites are far enough apart to feel like they are yours, but they are not private. - Potable water is provided on-site. We have an artisan well on property that has been certified as drinkable. The showers and potable water is located approximately 1/4 mile from campsites 1-7. The property is on and surrounded by other large ranches between Alpine and Terlingua, allowing space and privacy. The immediate property surrounding the campsites is dark sky complaint. The moon is our only chaser of the stars, but in those moments there is still so much to see. This 90 acre property features 6 primitive campsites which are individually set to view the best scenery outside of Big Bend National Park. These sites are based at the edge of rugged ledges, with rocky inclines. The morning sun paints the western ridges and the evening sun teases before the darkest skies twinkle with a million stars. Folklore whispers of a Shaman burial site, Alien Portals and whatever else the Dark Skies offer up! Your host is a granddaughter of a Texas Ranger that rode and patrolled the Rio Grande from the early 1900's to the mid century. There is an 18 hole disc golf course, complete with tee boxes and par levels. The paths are clearly marked and can be access via walk or ATV. Any ATV use is limited to the designated paths, abuse of this rule is not tolerated. Things to Note Campsites feature a fire pit and picnic table for your use. Our sites are BYO for potable water. Please make sure you bring a way to pack out any trash or waste you leave behind. The Big Bend has limited cell service from all carriers, there is wifi in the small towns but not rural. You will enjoy solitude, rugged ground, animal activity. We are a part of the dark sky community. You are responsible for your needs. There will be two central parking areas from which you can access the campsites. Town, Fuel, Grocery, Water and restaurants are 9 miles South. The National Park entrance is approx. 10.3 miles South. Quite hours at the property are from dark to daylight. All guests must be 18 or older, safety is the responsibility of the camper. While you are free to move about; do not enter others campsites uninvited. We ask that you do not move, remove or take rocks as souvenirs. Be respectful of the ranch borders. All flora and fauna in the desert will hurt you, so will most of the bugs and snakes. This is their home. We want your experience to be wild, rugged and safe! Undeveloped desert property 7 miles from Hwy 118 and about 30 miles to Terlingua/Study Butte. 9 miles to Little Burro Country Store. Beautiful 360 degree views of hills and mountains. These pictures absolutely don't do it justice. Come for the stars and stay for the quiet. We've seen donkey tracks and have so much fun being the only people in sight. Extremely secluded and perfect for stargazing! We are located in Terlingua Ranch, so roads are maintained but high clearance vehicles would be preferable. Full disclosure, there are several low water crossings that must be crossed to get to the property. Don't let that discourage you, it is a desert after all! Just know that if it rains there is a potential for the road to wash out. Summer is the rainy season and if for some reason the road is out and you cannot get to the property I will absolutely refund you. We have had to park and walk in before but we know you might not want to do that! It's easiest to use the center GPS coordinate to navigate there, and we do own the tall hill on the west side of the road although the majority of the property is on the east side, you can park or put your tent anywhere you like, though I would stay closer to the road to avoid the draw at the back of the property.
