McDonald Farm sits in the historic farming community of Jonah, TX between Georgetown and Taylor on scenic Highway 29. McDonald Farm is named after the patriarch of the family, J.H. Mcdonald, who first acquired the property in 1911. The farm sits on the bank of the San Gabriel River and features a lush canopy of huge pecan trees, sprawling corn fields, prairie, and forest.
We are a working farm! We primarily grow corn, but we also have livestock on the property. During daytime hours, you will likely see a variety of farm chores being completed. We offer a self-serve farm stand for our customers with fresh eggs, jelly and even pasture raised chicken - all produced on the farm.
We are only 7 miles from the Georgetown, TX historical district and square. Some say it’s the most beautiful town square in all of Texas. Enjoy shopping, dining, and festivals!
There is road noise. Highway 29 can be busy at times, despite being a two-lane road. Quiet hours are after 10 pm Sunday - Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.
Access to our river site is included in your camping fee. This secluded hike-to (~ 1-2 minute walk) site is peaceful with limestone cliff views and no visible homes or signs of civilization. The trail head is accessed by a dirt road that winds around our corn field and into the woods, and can be accessed by any vehicle in normal weather conditions. We will provide warning/refunds if the river road becomes 4x4 only. Fishing is allowed with a valid Texas fishing license. There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. All camping is at the main farm area and campers are able to come and go from the river site as they please (day or night!).

Kaz always had a DREAM to help kids with Life Skills & Mentor in God’s Principles because she had Christian Mentors growing up! They were always there for her through her life and kept her focused down the right path and stayed out of trouble and learned a tremendous amount from them! Bill her husband supports her and they raised 7 children together and have 10 grandkids. Kaz father was Asperger's Autistic and from 5 years old started showing Kaz hands on learning skills that are still instilled in her today! She found this to be a Valuable Lesson from her Dad. These methods and skills through the years working with her own children and other children through the years with different organizations confirm to be very beneficial and encouraging for the children growing up. Bill and Kaz have shared equally through all they’re projects during they’re 40 years of marriage. They’re Jack Of All Trades, Artists, Shown in Art Shows, Remodeled Homes, Churches, Work on the Ranch Together, and Etc. They are able to teach others how to do things that can benefit kids till they graduate and have a better understanding of what they want to do in their lives as an adult and PLUS have the mentoring to guide them through life.

This is a primitive and secluded camp site within an exotic animal preserve and cattle ranch with nearby private access to the Lampasas River through a beautiful oak and pecan grove with two sheltered picnic pavilions. We do NOT offer instant bookings and typically require a 4-7 day advance notice with reservations. Sky View covers 6.8 acres of isolated and wooded hillside acres of a 1700 acre private ranch in Texas hill country. McDonald Farm sits in the historic farming community of Jonah, TX between Georgetown and Taylor on scenic Highway 29. McDonald Farm is named after the patriarch of the family, J.H. Mcdonald, who first acquired the property in 1911. The farm sits on the bank of the San Gabriel River and features a lush canopy of huge pecan trees, sprawling corn fields, prairie, and forest.
We are a working farm! We primarily grow corn, but we also have livestock on the property. During daytime hours, you will likely see a variety of farm chores being completed. We offer a self-serve farm stand for our customers with fresh eggs, jelly and even pasture raised chicken - all produced on the farm.
We are only 7 miles from the Georgetown, TX historical district and square. Some say it’s the most beautiful town square in all of Texas. Enjoy shopping, dining, and festivals!
There is road noise. Highway 29 can be busy at times, despite being a two-lane road. Quiet hours are after 10 pm Sunday - Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.
Access to our river site is included in your camping fee. This secluded hike-to (~ 1-2 minute walk) site is peaceful with limestone cliff views and no visible homes or signs of civilization. The trail head is accessed by a dirt road that winds around our corn field and into the woods, and can be accessed by any vehicle in normal weather conditions. We will provide warning/refunds if the river road becomes 4x4 only. Fishing is allowed with a valid Texas fishing license. There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. All camping is at the main farm area and campers are able to come and go from the river site as they please (day or night!).

Kaz always had a DREAM to help kids with Life Skills & Mentor in God’s Principles because she had Christian Mentors growing up! They were always there for her through her life and kept her focused down the right path and stayed out of trouble and learned a tremendous amount from them! Bill her husband supports her and they raised 7 children together and have 10 grandkids. Kaz father was Asperger's Autistic and from 5 years old started showing Kaz hands on learning skills that are still instilled in her today! She found this to be a Valuable Lesson from her Dad. These methods and skills through the years working with her own children and other children through the years with different organizations confirm to be very beneficial and encouraging for the children growing up. Bill and Kaz have shared equally through all they’re projects during they’re 40 years of marriage. They’re Jack Of All Trades, Artists, Shown in Art Shows, Remodeled Homes, Churches, Work on the Ranch Together, and Etc. They are able to teach others how to do things that can benefit kids till they graduate and have a better understanding of what they want to do in their lives as an adult and PLUS have the mentoring to guide them through life.

We love the place and how well Kaz communicated all the details of their Ranch! Our site is next to a lot of trees and a good 50A hook up that helped charging my car. The place is big and has a lake that our kids loved!

It's a peaceful hill country setting with a pond and some nice views. We put up a hammock, did some hiking and really enjoyed ourselves. Kaz and Bill are very friendly and helpful.

I had an awesome time camping here. Amberle was generous and helped me back in my new travel trailer and get set up. The view out our window into the pastures was beautiful and we loved feeding the animals carrots. Highly recommend this spot even if you are local.

Bill and Kaz were super amazing hosts. So nice and I was able to talk with them for quite some time about their future plans for the property. They are incredibly welcoming to all campers but especially the overland community, sharing the philosophy of leaving thing’s better than you found it. Protecting nature so that it can be enjoyed for years and years. The campsites are nestled in the trees but provide some stunning views of the hills and the sunset. So quiet and peaceful. My campsite was equipped with a table, chairs, a fire ring and plenty of wood. One of my new favorite camping destinations. I highly recommend this spot. Give it a try, You won’t be sorry.

Nice spot at a private ranch, campsites are away from the road. Very peaceful. So the info may not be updated, it’s posted that sites only have water and power and need to dump by
Ranch septic tank. Well all rv sites have sewer connections.
Also the lake is dry no water,

This is a farm. For those that enjoy dispersed camping, this is it. No one else there so I had the run of the place. As described, I was met by the owner as I came up the drive, got a quick property tour and history, met the new baby pigs, was greeted by chickens and the old brown farm dog that came to check on me a couple of times. Fire pits were located throughout the property with plenty of firewood around for the choosing. Very clean portapotty. They have showers but I didn’t use them so I can’t comment. The main drawback is the proximity to Hwy 29. As noted in the description, it is not unnoticeable but by about 6:30 or 7, it calmed down a lot. I was just there on a spur of the moment , quick, overnighter to check the place out and to field test a couple of new pieces of camping equipment. It’s only a 15 mile trip from my home, so nice and easy. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. I’ve had a couple of questionable Hipcamp experiences, but this was not one of them . I can say I’ll probably be back the next time I need to get out or to put a new camping toy to work.

Daniel's Bluebonnet campsite is nicely situated near the flush toilet/shower and water spicket. The cows and donkey visited us frequently - loved it. Hiking through the back property was peaceful and beautiful. There was occasional road noise mixed with the coyote yips but not enough to matter. Great fire pit/grill! Daniel responding immediately when we needed anything. If you think the well water has an odd aroma, ask Daniel about the water in that area. We enjoyed conversing with him.

My friends and I had such a lovely time at the McDonald farm. The hosts were incredibly kind and communicative, and even gifted us spiced pecans from their land, which were delicious. Being around the farm animals was such a treat (we even got to meet two day-old baby piglets!), and the swimming area was sooo refreshing and calming.
A couple things to be mindful of: the property is quite close to a busy road, so you can hear some traffic noise. It didn’t ruin our experience, but it is helpful to know if you’re looking for total quiet. There is also no table at the campsites (that we knew of), so definitely bring one. The kitchen and coffee area were not available during our stay, though it seems like it may be opening soon.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and there is so much to love about this charming farm. Btw - make sure to stop at the farm stand...the whole chicken and mulberry syrup were DELICIOUS! Thanks so much :)

This ranch is an absolute gem. Each horse has a story with so many being rescued and are now thriving! There are ample opportunities to interact with the animals and enjoy the surroundings including a beautiful night sky. Amber has an incredible place to escape and reset- I will definitely be adding this to my rotation!

Another great camping adventure at McDonald Farm! Once again, hosts went above and beyond - gave us a flat repair kit and let us use their compressor after getting a flat on our way there. We loved gazing at the stars and sitting around the campfire. Free firewood is a huge plus. The sound of the river made it that much more peaceful. The dogs loved the sounds, smells and exploring. They even got a taste of the recently butchered, farm fresh bacon. We couldn't resist buying more bacon, some bratwurst and homemade mulberry syrup! We love it here and you will too!

A perfect family campsite. I took my 6 year old who loved running around and watching the animals. There is a gas station a few miles away and Walmart within 15 minutes.
The river area is very private, with nice hammocks. The hosts are very gracious and warm. Can’t recommend enough for families with young campers.

Macdonal Farm RV camp is an absolute gem! The location is perfect just a short drive from Austin, making it super convenient yet still peaceful. The facilities are spotless, with super clean hot showers that felt amazing after a long day.
The farm itself is beautiful and full of friendly animals: adorable chickens and pigs, and our favorite a sweet horse named Ginger. The owners were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. It was the perfect boondock spot for our canper van. The ground was level with plenty of open space, giving us privacy while still being close enough to hear a bit of highway traffic in the distance. The highlight of the night? The biggest bonfire we’ve ever seen, thoughtfully put together by the owners. It made for an unforgettable evening under the stars. Highly recommend this spot. We’ll definitely be back!

We loved camping the primitive site by the river. The trail to get there was short and clear, the views were beautiful. Getting in to the river was easy and they have a ladder you can enter. There were conveniently chairs and fire pits and charcoal grills available. We enjoyed exploring the river but couldn’t float as the river was extremely low and shallow. Water was hot due to it being summer but it was still fun! Host was very polite and helpful!!
