Weekend Trip to 3 Dry Wells Ranch

We have been to many glamping sites in TX but I have not seen such a beautiful site with a high elevation view. The host made it extra special sending us a small gift to celebrate our anniversary.. A beautiful night under the stars that you won't forget!

Weekend Trip to Mockingbird Farms

Mockingbird Farms is beautiful, safe, and serene. We had everything we needed in the bunkhouse for “glamping,” but I think tent camping here would also be a great experience. The farm has donkeys, horses, and goats — they are all super gentle and love people, and the host gave us animal crackers to feed them! Everything was very comfortable — plenty of hot water in the outdoor shower, AC unit in the bunkhouse, super comfortable bed. The host Cait was great to communicate with before the trip, and we got to visit with her for a bit on the property, she is so nice! Quick, easy access to the nearby towns (Somerset and Poteet) for meals and gas / dollar stores if you forgot to pack something. I believe this property would be very safe for solo campers, as well. I can’t recommend Mockingbird Farms enough — we’ll definitely be back!

My partner and I pitched our tent at the Sotol campsite. It was a great view and a quiet, relaxing area w/ great sky viewing. Kasey was a communicative, great host. We would definitely recommend this site!

Campground was very private, very secluded. Neighboring sites were completely out of view from our site. This is a hidden gem right in the middle of the city area. Hard to believe this kind of privacy exists this close to San Antonio! Owner/host was fantastic! If you want some primitive camping time unplugged and "in the woods", this is it!

Really nice place. Unkomplicated. Very friendly host. Beautiful horses. Our daughters really like it there. Washingmaschine and dryer 👍🏽 At night you can hear the vehicles on the road. Only the restroom was dirty.

Not much to say, we pulled in late and left early. Probably could have parked on the side of the road, but I hate getting woken up and having to move. James the host was responsive and helpful. The place looked pretty killer for a nice getaway. It's not a typical campground, it's private land with outhouses and sites with firepits. Very reminiscent of a Baja situation. Host says he locks the gate at night but I couldn't confirm. Overall I'd recommend

This property was so beautiful! Highly recommend the Ashe juniper location for the farthest back and most secluded location! The woods/trees you walk through to get there is so amazing. David was such a gem giving a quick tour of the property and amenities. I’ve stayed at a few different Hipcamp locations around San Antonio, and this is by far our favorite! Will be back again!

Mockingbird Farms

Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

Welcome to the Cibolo Gardens Nature Preserve! Just 22 miles from downtown San Antonio, not far off of US 281, our educational homestead is an excellent place to camp. We’ve transformed 45 acres of what was once an active rock quarry just 15 years ago, into a healthy, regenerative, green space as well as an event and training venue. Our venue is nestled in the middle of the rapidly growing suburban landscape around us in north San Antonio. We purchased the property five years ago from good friends who had already started the mission of revitalizing the land. Today, 39 of the acres are in “preservation” status, which means that we are letting the natural micro-ecosystems that have developed from what remained of the quarrying activities 15 years ago to develop on their own. We hope to always keep this acreage in that status for generations to enjoy. The remaining 6 acres is wooded, where we live, have gardens, farm animals and where we interface equitably with our environment. Feel free to simply relax in the shade of the persimmon and juniper trees. Or, to add some activity to your stay, hike the varying terrain on our 45 acres, hunt for fossils in the dry creek bed, break out your tree / plant id books, or watch the wildlife (even if it’s just the chickens). Refresh by taking a dip in the above ground pool, or wash off in the outdoor cob shower. Simply park your RV and gaze at the sun from our grassy grounds. Leave nothing behind but your payment and take home only pictures of the moon photobombing the sun. Remember to bring your generator, toilet, and solar eclipse glasses. A dump station is conveniently located down the road at Guadalupe State Park and another at Alamo Fiesta RV. Please note: we do not offer hookups here. While water is available in case of emergencies, we recommend arriving with a full tank. Please adhere to the county order: no open flames allowed. Our terrain is unfinished, ranging from 3% to 6% gradient. It drains well, but in the event of heavy rainfall, expect muddy conditions. Rest assured, we'll mow and tidy up the area before your arrival. While there may be some ants, scorpions, etc., feel free to bring pesticides to spray your designated area. Sticker burrs are minimal. For added security, the property is gated, but remember to keep your pet leashed at all times. We are offering eclipse camp services for 20 to 30 spots only. There are no assigned areas—first come, first served. Ensure to maintain a minimum distance of 40 feet from your neighbor and avoid parking on the driveway.
