Drive carefully on the dirt roads leading to the ranch; as deer are plentiful all around the property. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with a wide range of animals typical of the rolling hills of Central Texas Hillcountry. The property has patches of open meadows speckled with hundreds of large, beautiful heritage trees including Live Oaks, Red Oaks, Cedar Elms, and Pecans. There are two small ponds on the property, with plenty of frogs and typical aquatic species providing a natural soundscape at night. Feel free to explore the site on foot or vehicles, but please keep vehicles only on existing dirt roads (no off-roading allowed). Feel free to use the RV hookup at the green metal building, and enjoy the stunning sunset views of the Texas Hillcountry from the elevated wooden deck connected to the building. Come stay on our 100 acre Richard Creek Valley getaway, gently tucked away on the north slope. There are four campsites on the property and they are all at least 150 yards away from each other. Each site is private. When the ground is dry there is access for all vehicles. When the ground is muddy, Brookside, RiverRock, and Richardson Creek campsites require a 4-wheel drive and have alternate routes to get to them. Ancient Oaks is an all-weather site. You can enjoy hiking and swimming in Richardson Creek when water levels permit. Canoeing from Bakers Crossing put-in which is only 3 miles away.
Some places to check out while you are here include Dinosaur Valley State Park, Dinosaur World, Granbury Historic Square, Stephenville Rodeo, Bakers Crossing River Put-In, Oakdale Plunge Pool, and BigRocks Park in Glen Rose.

We can accommodate RVs, camper vans, tents, or people who want to park and hike to a primitive camp spot.
Campsites are to the left of the entrance near the road; however, there is very little traffic as there are few neighbors. We offer fire pits at each campsite with some included firewood.
There is minimal light pollution, and stargazing is a must! Keep an eye out for petrified wood and arrowheads. If you're quiet enough, you might see some deer or other incredible wildlife.

Lake Palo Pinto Fishing
There are a wide variety of fish in the lake including Large Mouth Bass, Hybrid Stripped Bass, White Bass, White Crappie, Channel Cat, and Flathead Cat. The Brazos Electric Power Plant is located on the lake. The power plant helps to keep the water warmer during the winter months keeping the fishing better in that area where an 83-pound Flathead Catfish was known to be caught.
Lake Palo Pinto RV Park is just 14 minutes to Palo Pinto, 25 minutes to Mineral Wells, and about an hour from Fort Worth. It is north of I-20 about 10 miles.
Nearby points of interest include Clark Gardens Botanical Park, Holiday Hills Country Club, Mineral Well Fossil Park, The National Vietnam War Museum.
Take The Baker Hotel ghost walk tour, where you can learn about the historical significance of the hotel, its ghostly inhabitants, and the history of the City of Mineral Wells. Downtown Mineral Wells is home to more than 20 murals featuring everything from flying pigs to human-sized butterflies and interactive murals to portrayals of local people from days gone past.
Downtown Mineral Wells has over 100 historic buildings with boutiques, antique shops, and specialty stores, plus restaurants that offer patio dining and live music. Mineral Wells was named for and is still famous for its mineral waters. The town boomed as a health resort after 1885, when the Crazy Well was dug. The Crazy Water Bath House offers mineral baths and treatments inspired by the waters and nature.
Three museums call Mineral Wells their home. The National Vietnam War Museum has dozens of silent memorials recognizing those who served their country in the Vietnam War. This museum exhibits a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., the Camp Holloway Memorial Wall, a Meditation Garden, and a Huey Helicopter.
The Old Jail Museum is a growing complex of historic log cabins and frontier buildings that demonstrate life in the region’s 19th century. Local artifacts fill all of its buildings. The Little Rock Schoolhouse Museum, built in 1884, housed the first public school building in Mineral Wells, and is dedicated to the preservation of the historical memorabilia of the City of Mineral Wells.
The W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History preserves, documents, and researches the industrial history of Thurber, Texas, which was once a thriving coal mining company town of 10,000 people and now a ghost town. Thurber was located near the southern Palo Pinto County line. Visitors can see reconstructions of Thurber’s mercantile store, livery stable, the town bandstand, the 655-seat opera house, and the Snake Saloon, which once boasted one of the largest horseshoe-shaped bars in the United States.
The Mineral Wells Fossil Park at the old City of Mineral Wells landfill’s borrow pit, which closed in the early 1990s but then revealed fossils documenting ancient sea species such as crinoids, echinoids, and other historic sea life from the Pennsylvania Period over 300 million years ago. Fossil collecting is allowed in designated areas only, and only surface collecting is allowed with small gardening tools at the park.
Take a guided tour of Guest Ranch Exotic Game Hunting where you will see their different species of antelope, buffalo, deer, and sheep. The best times to go on this tour are early mornings and late afternoons, and the cost of the tours begin at $35.00.
Check out the Palo Pinto Mountain State Park that comprises 4,871 acres of former ranch land about 23 miles west of Palo Pinto Creek Reservoir. When fully developed, this park will offer hiking, camping, fishing, stargazing, and other outdoor activities. Plateaus with beautiful vistas overlook sheltered canyons. Palo Pinto Creek winds through the northern border of the park. A dam on Russell Creek impounds the 90-acre Tucker Lake, the centerpiece of the park. Plans for the park include an extensive network of multi-use trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Trails will lead to remote areas of the park with expansive vistas.

Great tent campsite right on the riverbank—very private and peaceful. The host, Ted, is wonderful and really goes above and beyond. There are a lot of positives here, like free use of kayaks and canoes and even a late checkout if the site isn’t booked.
I love to camp and fish, and this place delivered on both. We caught crappie, catfish, perch, even a gaspergou—and a turtle. Being able to gather firewood and enjoy a fire by the river made the experience even better. My son and I had an awesome time and will definitely be coming back.

Very cozy spot that is easy to get to. Lots of open space and the creek next to camp is nice.
There are a ton of sheep and goats there as well which was cool! However they will probably get in your way but just wait and they will clear out and keep their distance.
Only complaint I have is the road and animal noises get a little loud at late night but it didn’t ruin the overall experience for me.
It’s also a good place to stay if you’re visiting Dinosaur Valley State Park since it’s only about 20 minutes away.
Overall I had a nice stay for a quick weekend get away, I can see myself coming back.

We were traveling with friends.
Originally we were in site 3 but we went to site 2 ( our friends in site 1) it was tight becuz we bothered in 42ft toy hauler 5th wheels.
Lakeside Cisco Rentels had everything we needed. The store was a plus. If ever in the area again definite return stay.
One thing it would be even nicer for longer stay ppl to have a small laundry room like in the club house.

Camping here was just what we needed for a quick disconnect from the city. The site was beautiful, peaceful, and easily accessible. The closeness to the creek was exactly what I'd hoped for, and we got to cool down in our own little private stretch of the water. We'll definitely look to book here again in the future! Thank you!

Beautiful view! We stayed here for a week in our 44ft 5th wheel. Our friends in their 40ft 5th wheel also stayed here. We were in site 1 & our friends were supposed to be in site 3. They would have had to raise a power line to get in the spot, so no go. We managed to get both our 5th wheels in sites 1 & 2. It was awkward & tight. I wouldn’t recommend these sites for large rigs like ours. It’s right by the road on 2 curves. The sites are gravel & there’s a drop off about 12 ft out our front door, the way we’re parked. so I would be very cautious with children & pets.
Jason who runs the rentals is very nice & accommodating. You have access to the store, docks & pavilion up the hill. The sunsets are amazing. We would recommend this place but we would suggest smaller rv’s.

Lovely 2 bedroom little lake cabin. Had a great time fishing from the dock and walking the dogs. Being dog friendly is a big plus.

Beautiful setting with great views and fishing. Unfortunately a cold and windy front came through our second day so we hunkered down the majority of our stay. Host was very accommodating and attentive without being at all intrusive. Even took our 5 yr old around with us on his side by side to introduce us to his burros! We will definitely be back during warmer weather.

We stayed last weekend at Riverside Campsite in Jim Ned Front Gateway and had a great experience. The site felt secluded and peaceful, with a nice fire ring, some wood nearby, and one of the best features being the open river access right at the edge of camp. It made it easy to fish while still being able to cook, relax, and enjoy camp at the same time.
Ted was very welcoming, and the included kayaks were a huge bonus, especially for the very reasonable price. The river is beautiful and flows into Brownwood Lake after about a 20-minute kayak trip. We did see a few fishing boats and pontoon boats pass by occasionally, but it still felt calm and enjoyable.
This site works well for more than just tent camping. We drove our dually truck with a pop-up truck camper in without any trouble. There is no electricity or water at this site, but Ted does offer RV sites if that better fits your needs.
Overall, this is a very nice place and somewhere we definitely want to return. I know people sometimes hesitate to leave good reviews for places they want to keep to themselves, and I understand that, but this spot is worth recommending. If you like simple camping, fishing, kayaking, and peaceful river access, give this place a try.

I stayed on the River Rock campsite for 2 nights…I really enjoyed it. It was very peaceful. If peace and quiet is what you are seeking then I highly recommend this one!…There is absolutely nothing to do here but relax and enjoy nature..It was so me!😁There’s a beautiful creek right by that you can hear it flowing when the wild life has calm down. You could hear all the farm animals in the distance. Had a visit from a beautiful red bird and Mr. Armadillo who I believe lives near by because he came both nights I stayed. He was just looking for insects though. So if you ever book this spot don’t be surprised with all the holes in the ground…It’s just Mr. Armadillo looking for food. It has a picnic table and nice fire ring and you can gather downed wood, purchase from the host or bring your own. Oh and I suggest bringing your own toilet too…trust me😂The directions on getting there could be a little more detailed but other than my stay was great. Mr. Emory was very kind and courteous..Showed me around the campsite and told me everything I needed to know and said if I had any other questions or concerns to just reach out. I would definitely book that spot again! It was a wonderful experience!💯💪🏾

I had a great time at the little off lake house with my dog. There was plenty of room for him to run and explore off leash. The lake and the boat were amazing too. Lots of privacy, but the host checked in on me to make sure I had everything I needed! The house itself did indeed have everything you could want. Thanks Kellie and Lindell for a great weekend and I hope to come back soon!
