The river gets pretty low during July and August. Wheeler Branch Reservoir(only a few miles from camp) is a great spot to swim and fish when the river water levels are lower. Very small lake that is good for swimming and kayaking with a dock, clear waters. We have 5 different sites. All of them overlook the Paluxy River, have rock fire pits, seating areas, patios, and stairs down to riverbed. You will have access to one of the most beautiful parts of the Paluxy River. In order to reserve a spot you must be 21 or over. This is not extremely remote place where you can party and go crazy. We want everyone to be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the views. Site Big Pecan: This is the farthest site upriver and has one of the largest pecan trees I've ever seen. The trees provide great shade cover during the summer. This site has an awesome rock patio seating area with 2 wooden Adirondack chairs overlooking the river with stairs to provide easy access down into the water. It also has a rock firepit with 2 wooden Adirondack chairs on a rock patio. Also includes a kids sand box, and a picnic table with shade umbrella, and numerous extras available to rent. Site 1 Limestone ledge: Firepit seating area overlooking the river with 4 Adirondack chairs and a shade umbrella, separate rock patio closer to the water overlooking the river with 2 wooden rocking chairs, stairs down to riverbed, huge pecan trees, kids play set with sand box, 1 picnic table, shade umbrella, and a 10' x 10' raised tent deck platform overlooking the river. Please select those during checkout Tips: Bring river shoes, nose plugs, swimming essentials. Parts of the river can be very slippery. Bring life jackets, especially for children. Bring the essentials for any camping trip including: sunscreen, bug spray, anti-itch meds, etc. Chairs and sunshades to sit in the river are always popular. The Paluxy river ranges from just a few inches deep to 5 feet deep in our camping area. There are more swimming holes a little deeper up and downstream. Water is available at the entrance. No restroom - pack in, pack out. Bring your own potty and water. If you are not familiar with dry camping do some research. There are all types of methods for restrooms, heating, cooling, etc. available now to make it enjoyable. Dogs are allowed on leash. Trey was such a kind host! We had a fantastic fall camp with clear skies and stargazing at night and lots of active birdwatching in the morning. Definitely recommend as a place to escape DFW and be out in the country all by yourselves! The site was very private and well maintained.

My family enjoyed this spot so much we came back for a second time this Fall. Stayed at Campsite 4 this time, it was bigger and felt more private. It’s super convenient to purchase wood from Paul so that it’s just waiting at your camp when you get there. This shallow section of the Paluxy is perfect for kids to either use a kayak or walk out into the river for a fun time.

Wonderful, quiet place to stay. Hosts were great, Eddie is friendly and respectful. Made sure I had firewood and gate access. Very clean out toilet close by. Quick communication, Rod is very responsive. First time solo camping and as a woman alone, I felt safe! Once I went to bed I never heard anyone. Just quiet and peaceful. My site was slightly off the road; serene area with fire pit. Electric outlet. Some sites have 30 amps or 15 amps for hookups.

We had a perfect time at campsite three. We were able to watch the World Series game while grilling dinner on the beautiful fire pit overlooking the river. I saw that another review noted the traffic noise. Yes, there is traffic on the road by the site, but for us it was no problem at all. This was our second visit here and we are already planning our trip back!

Weekend Trip to Pecans on the Paluxy - River Views

We absolutely adored this site. The host has gone above and beyond with the extras. Our site included a nice flagstone patio, comfy Adirondack chairs, and a great view of the river. There is a very large tent pad covered with gravel, which was flat and easy to put our tent up. Our site also included kayaks and a hammock. Our residential area is under a bun ban, so we drove the 5 hours north to enjoy 2 nights chatting around a big campfire. It was worth every second. There is moderate road noise, but its not a "busy" road as one review mentioned. Unfortunately for us, there was an all day baseball tournament nearby, so we spent the day listening to cheering (but that's likely just a seasonal thing). We will definitely be back, and next time bring some friends.

Beautiful spot on the river and camp sites are very well taken care of and spacious. The baseball/softball lights and shenanigans led to some later and earlier noise and light than desired but that was in the reviews and we knew what to expect with an easy to reach off the road place. Fishing was decent for the kids and all very accessible down the walkway and on the limestone ledge.

The park is clean and everyone is so welcoming! Within walking distance of Dinosaur World Lots of activities for all ages. Pools are very nice —a little cold—but nice! The sites are great with full hookups and nice grass area
