1 night at Down Horn Ranch

Don’s place was serene. Lots of privacy, nice designated tent spots that felt very taken care of, while still keeping a sense of camping out in the natural space of that area. All the amenities you need and communicative as well.

Weekend Trip to Down Horn Ranch

Had a great short tent camping trip at Downhorn Ranch! The sites were nice and private, really appreciated having a bathroom complete with shower, and observing the curious Longhorns made for extra entertainment. The host was quick to respond with any questions we had and we would absolutely come back for more nights under the stars.

Peaceful spot at the top of a hill. Great for Sunset views and a quiet night. Our dogs were safe and comfortable off leash. The solo stove and clean port-o-potty were very much appreciated. Our host was friendly and responded quickly. We would stay there again.

Weekend Trip to McDonald Farm

We had such a great time at the McDonald Farm!! The location was beautiful and there’s river access within walking distance. The hosts were extremely kind and welcoming to all of us. Additionally, the other campers were very nice as well. The showers were awesome and felt very clean. They provided delicious coffee that we had every morning and fire wood for our fire pit for no extra cost!! Very generous and sweet hosts. We’d absolutely visit again!

Weekend Trip to Alexander Creek RV and Campground

Alexander Creek RV park is a quiet place to stay. The roaming cattle were a refreshing taste of country living. There is a nicely done club house with clean bathrooms and showers. Currently there is not a fire pit or grill at each site but Wendy was quickly accommodating with bringing a grill over for my use. I would stay here again if my travels bring me back this way.

RJ and Samantha were attentive, responsive hosts. The property was beautiful and close to the San Gabriel River. The camp kichen and showers were a great feature. And I got to meet their horse Ginger! I recomend it.

I loved camping with my family and friends at Bosque River Camp. Beautiful property and Joe could not be any more accommodating or friendly. Thanks again Joe for letting us stay here. It was peaceful and relaxing. Awesome place to explore, so many things to see. The river is beautiful and the wildlife was plentiful. Got to see and hear some wild birds to include turkeys. I highly recommend camping here. Definitely would come back. Bathroom is clean, and it's nice to have the luxury of a flushing toilet. Bring water and enjoy.

Weekend Trip to Best View In Leander

Darren's land was ideal for us. It was very quiet and pretty. Nothing fancy, just a picnic table, metal fire pit and a very clean porta-potty. It was also close to Balcones National Wildlife Refuge which is the reason we were in this area. The ground is very lumpy, so not a good option for tent campers. As we have a truck pop-up camper, that wasn't an issue for us. We would definitely stay here again.

Host allowed us to check in and bit early since we got there sooner than expected. The entrance wasn’t clearly marked but have found it after contacting the host. We stayed at the bottom campsite and it was fun crawling down and up with my jeep. Overall this place was quiet and we have enjoyed cedar trees.

We had the best time at McDonald’s Farm! From splashing in the river to hanging out fireside this is the spot! Our kids loved seeing the pigs, chickens, and horse, as well as exploring the property. The hosts were amazing! They had a great spot for making coffee set up for us and always were quick to answer questions and assist our group. Thanks for a great weekend!

Weekend Trip to Lampasas Camping and Glamping

We were seriously blown away by this diamond in the rough! So lucky to have found this place! I messaged Daniel with a question and he answered very quickly. We decided to book last minute for the same day, and Daniel was extremely accommodating, to the point of greeting us in person much later than we had anticipated due to a delay traveling. The site is super accessible and a short distance from the road, but completely private. There were sturdy Adirondack chairs, as well as a large picnic table with benches. We did not try out the fire pit, bc we wanted to stargaze. And the sky out there is pristine. It was wonderful. If you are a dark sky nerd, this site is legitimately capable of Bortle 2 and 3 levels of darkness. Check the light pollution maps if you need to, but that is part of why we booked and we were not disappointed. A large thunderstorm system came through overnight, and the canvas yurt/tent held up just fine and we stayed dry. It is very securely anchored to a solid platform of concrete, cinder blocks, and thick wooden beams, keeping the structure elevated off the ground and well above any accumulation of rainwater and we felt very safe. Could not recommend more highly! We hope to be back soon! Go visit, check it out, you will not be disappointed!

McDonald Farm sits in the historic farming community of Jonah, TX between Georgetown and Taylor on scenic Highway 29. McDonald Farm is named after the patriarch of the family, J.H. Mcdonald, who first acquired the property in 1911. The farm sits on the bank of the San Gabriel River and features a lush canopy of huge pecan trees, sprawling corn fields, prairie, and forest. We are a working farm! We primarily grow corn, but we also have livestock on the property. During daytime hours, you will likely see a variety of farm chores being completed. We are only 7 miles from the Georgetown, TX historical district and square. Some say it’s the most beautiful town square in all of Texas. Enjoy shopping, dining, and festivals! We are 13 miles from Granger Lake, which offers boating and bass fishing opportunities. Highway 29 and the many quaint and scenic country roads that intersect it is popular with cyclists wanting to go for longer rides and enjoy the sights of central Texas and the many historical farms in the area. There is excellent bird-watching and wildlife-viewing opportunities on the property. We frequently see white-tailed deer, as well as other wildlife and many species of birds. There is road noise. Highway 29 can be busy at times, despite being a two-lane road. We also have neighbors, so we request quiet hours after 10 pm Sunday - Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. The main difference is in the tents’ locations on our property and corresponding view. - The Grand Aztec: Provides the most open view of the lake and hill country. Located central on the property near the main fire pit and common areas. - The Grand Arrow: Also has a lake view, but with more trees, less open than the Grand Aztec. Located closer to the entrance of our property, farther from the common areas. Adirondack chairs and a hammock area is just out back (lakeside). - The Grand Tesoro: Private hill country view across the properties ravine. Located closest to the bathhouse, very central on our property. Also near the common areas. A private chiminea fire area under a grove of trees is nearby. The price for Grand tents is based on double or triple occupancy. A fourth guest is welcome for an additional fee ($50/nt), which you’ll see at booking. The Mini Aztec: Located between the Grand Aztec and Grand Arrow tents, with a private view of the lake and hills, and a private chiminea area. For younger children (age 8+) who want to sleep in the mini tent, we recommend the Grand Arrow for the parents because the mini is within view of the Grand Arrow porch. The Grand Tents have a maximum occupancy of 3 guests. We may allow for a fourth guest upon request for an additional fee ($50/nt).
