We are busy and not always able to visit for long. Lots of remodeling and flood related cleanup chaos here but also lots of pretty and secluded nature. Short walk to bus stop and historic Sagebrush HonkyTonk and Austin Bergstrom Airport is 9 easy highway miles away. Rustic outdoor shower/kitchen/privy. BYOTent. No wild or excessive partying here please and please remember: no smoking. WE NOW HAVE A COVERED PING-PONG PLAYING AREA ! Other details to note: Street parking. You may hear coyotes and a great horned owl at night. There is a honey bee themed gift shop on site that is regularly open Thu-Sat 10-6 that offers tastings and tours. There is a restroom and small sink area connected to store that is open 24 hrs. There are 2 LONG RV spots up to 45 feet in length BUT, they are back in only and the turn around area is tight if you have a BIG RIG. The 2 camper van sites are (Site 1) 32' and (Site 2) 22'. Ask me if you want to know more! It helps me to approve you more quickly if I know how tall/long your RV is. Especially if you are longer than 24 feet. You can text me info. Come stay in our sweet semi off grid cabin just between Austin and Marble Falls Tx. Near beautiful Lake Travis. There’s a short somewhat steep hike from the parking area by the road up to the cabin. Again the trail is steep and approximately 30 yards long. Keep this in mind because your belongings will have to be carried up the trail. If you have 4x4 you can drive up top closer to the cabin. This is a glamping experience and you will need sleeping pads, bags and pillows. We do not provide bedding. The cabin sleeps 4. 2 on the futon and 2 (preferably kids sized humans) up in the loft. There is electricity but no running water, so bring water. There a/c heat and a mini fridge/freezer. Also a sweet vintage hifi system with a good vinyl collection. Turkey Bend recreation area on Lake Travis it’s just a couple of miles down the road. Marble Falls and Austin are both about the same distance away approximately 17 miles. Hidden Falls adventure Park is approximately 7 miles away. Lago Vista Texas is the closest city with restaurants and gas stations and grocery stores. This property is on a dirt road and light pollution in minimal so this is a great place to stargaze! The parking area is also dirt and somewhat uneven. Highway 29 can be busy at times, despite being a two-lane road. Quiet hours are after 10 pm Sunday - Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. Access to our river site is included in your camping fee. This secluded hike-to (~ 1-2 minute walk) site is peaceful with limestone cliff views and no visible homes or signs of civilization. The trail head is accessed by a dirt road that winds around our corn field and into the woods, and can be accessed by any vehicle in normal weather conditions. We will provide warning/refunds if the river road becomes 4x4 only. Fishing is allowed with a valid Texas fishing license. There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. All camping is at the main farm area and campers are able to come and go from the river site as they please (day or night!).

Choose a spot at top of property for Hill Country views for miles or closer to the water for more privacy. We also have a 2022 class b outfitted with all the creature comforts if you don’t want to tent it. We have marked 6 sites with a light and fire pit. But feel free to camp anywhere you like within the property line outlined. Please note defined sites are first come first serve. If you choose to find your own site please be considerate of others space, create your own fire pit with rocks and gather only downed wood. Note if there is a fire ban at your time of stay only use camp stoves. All camp sites are primitive and the farther from the parking area you will need to plan on hiking in. Trails are loosely defined by deer trails and there’s elevation to consider. The father from the parking area and closer you are to the creek the more private the site. Weekend Trip to Urban Hideout

What a peaceful, cozy, comfortable spot, with the kindest hosts. The cabin was perfectly appointed. I needed a place to rest and recharge and I got exactly that. The outdoor shower was the icing on the cake. Pretty much nothing better than being sheltered by a wise old oak tree as you wash off that road dirt. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to see the more peaceful and humane side of Austin!

I didn't end up making it to my scheduled weekend over Thanksgiving and while I enjoy supporting local businesses and would even donate (it was $100-120 for the four days), when I texted the host this, James, about using those 4 days another time and thanked him either way..he didn't have the decency to respond at least saying yay or nay it wasn't doable or it was...just ignored. Either way would have been understandable, but I just donated $100 or so to your local business...real neighborly.....Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Bud.

1 night at McDonald Farm on the River

This is a farm. For those that enjoy dispersed camping, this is it. No one else there so I had the run of the place. As described, I was met by the owner as I came up the drive, got a quick property tour and history, met the new baby pigs, was greeted by chickens and the old brown farm dog that came to check on me a couple of times. Fire pits were located throughout the property with plenty of firewood around for the choosing. Very clean portapotty. They have showers but I didn’t use them so I can’t comment. The main drawback is the proximity to Hwy 29. As noted in the description, it is not unnoticeable but by about 6:30 or 7, it calmed down a lot. I was just there on a spur of the moment , quick, overnighter to check the place out and to field test a couple of new pieces of camping equipment. It’s only a 15 mile trip from my home, so nice and easy. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. I’ve had a couple of questionable Hipcamp experiences, but this was not one of them . I can say I’ll probably be back the next time I need to get out or to put a new camping toy to work.

We had a wonderful stay at Sheri and Johnnie’s property. They both came to greet us when we arrived and were incredibly welcoming. They even offered to look after our dog while we visited Hamilton Pool, which was so thoughtful. It was a perfect experience - 10/10, we’ll be back!

Sheri and Johnny were extremely kind and hospitable hosts. We enjoyed the privacy of the campsites that were available (couldn’t see any of the other guests unless you went looking)! Very convenient if you’re looking to visit Hamilton pools which is just five minutes away. Also our favorite point was that it’s in an area with little/less light pollution from the city and so we were able to get really nice stargazing views!

I kinda really don’t even want to leave a review because I don’t want the secret getting out. But this camp site is just amazing if you know what you’re getting into! It’s rustic, bring your own table and water rustic. But for that “downside” you get so many upsides. The quiet, ooooh the quiet. The stars and the quiet make you forget you’re only 30 minutes from home. The hosts are amazing, friendly, and on top of everything on the facility. As an example, there was a shortage of tp in one of the bathrooms, no big deal, I keep tp in the truck for this reason. But next time I went in (next morning) it was stocked! It’s the little things in that really and truly make this place incredible.

We had a great time here! Sites were large enough to accommodate 2 vehicles and a tent, plus 3 dogs. Bathrooms at the front were clean, plus a hose nearby for non potable water. We had fire wood delivered to our site a couple of times and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to McDonald Farm on the River

My friends and I had such a lovely time at the McDonald farm. The hosts were incredibly kind and communicative, and even gifted us spiced pecans from their land, which were delicious. Being around the farm animals was such a treat (we even got to meet two day-old baby piglets!), and the swimming area was sooo refreshing and calming. A couple things to be mindful of: the property is quite close to a busy road, so you can hear some traffic noise. It didn’t ruin our experience, but it is helpful to know if you’re looking for total quiet. There is also no table at the campsites (that we knew of), so definitely bring one. The kitchen and coffee area were not available during our stay, though it seems like it may be opening soon. Overall, we had a wonderful time and there is so much to love about this charming farm. Btw - make sure to stop at the farm stand...the whole chicken and mulberry syrup were DELICIOUS! Thanks so much :)

My stay was fabulous. I was greeted when I arrived by Tanya and soon met her sweet bitsy Yorkie baby. I was fortunate to get there while the store was still open. So many beautiful bottles of delicious honey that I shared with my son and daughter. They were thrilled to have local honey. Thank you Tanya I will be back!
