This campsite was incredible! Beautiful land and plenty of space. The swimming hole was so fun and refreshing, the snack shack has the best prices around with farm fresh eggs, ice, and great snacks as a cherry on top. They’ve thought of everything to make this a great campsite. Mark and his wife are exceptional hosts. They invited us to their Fourth of July celebration, and Mark was more than willing to help us with whatever we needed. Genuine kindness and hospitality that made this trip all the better. Definitely recommend!!

Easy communication with camp host. 😎 My husband fished the pond (when a kid wasn’t having time of his life cannon balling) and caught a 2 pound Bass. Site 5 is 4 wheel drive to get up to the area and its smaller but more private than other sites. Nice spot overall✨

The camp site is great and very clean. The no beer was kinda of a bummer. It’s always nice to have a cold beer while you are fishing but totally understand they want to keep it a family camp not a party house. But recommend for family’s with small children.

Ellis Cove provided the perfect backdrop for our family getaway! We were so impressed with the spaciousness of the campsites, which made our stay feel comfortable and uncrowded. What truly made this trip special for our children was the proximity to the Little Pigeon River. They were in their element, from the simple joy of skipping rocks to excitedly splashing and even trying out some fun tubing. Beyond the campground, we also appreciated the easy drives to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the Sugarlands Visitor Center in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It made exploring the area incredibly convenient. If you're looking for a campground where kids can truly connect with nature, enjoy river fun, and still have easy access to all the local attractions, this is it!

We love Smoky Mountain Mangalista! It's beautiful, relaxing, and just what we wanted. The views and experience are amazing, it's in a great location to access all the things we wanted to do, and Catherine and Rick are great! We want to recommend it to everyone...but then again, we want to keep it our little secret so no one finds out! This makes two years in a row for us, and we hope to return again.

Wow. Just wow. This is definitely a unique spot and the hosts just get it what a good camping experience looks like. The property is clearly loved and cared for. The views and nature are breathtaking, water in the river is clean, the nights are starry, and above all nobody is bothering anyone. We were hesitant to write this review because we loved the place so much and didn't want it to become crowded. However the hosts deserve the recognition for their efforts — this place is a hidden gem. People, please help preserving it.

We loved the outdoor shower and how beautiful the area was. The hosts left books to read and games . Our daughter loved the hammock. Hopefully next time we will get to see the horses ❤️ will definitely be back. Hopefully earlier enough to be able to meet the hosts .

Site 9 is a great secluded spot on the property over looking the farm and mountains. It was fun walking down to the river to swim, fish, or wade in. Love staying at Smokey Mountain Mangalista Farm!

3 nights at Sunset Ridge in the Smoky Mountains

This is a great spot. Not sure you will find many locations with full hook ups and such a beautiful view on a mountain ridge all to yourself. The hook ups worked perfectly and plenty of space to navigate on the pad with two entrances allowing for pull-through access. As other reviews mentioned, the roads from Rte 40 to the site are a bit narrow and windy. I was able to navigate with my small Class A but it may make some nervous in larger rigs. For myself, it was definitely worth the trip. I extended my stay two times because I liked the spot so much. The hosts were very responsive to communication. I highly recommend this HipCamp.

Weekend Trip to Quiet Troublesome Gap

This was my maiden Hipcamp experience but I’ve been camping all over western NC for the last 25 years. Montie’s campsite is very cool. It provided everything my family needed to accommodate us for a festival that was taking place nearby. The instructions were clear and the land was well maintained and tucked away. The plot of land is quite big - lots of space for a family trip or for group get away. Overall, we had a blast!

2 nights at Ellis Cove

Enjoyed our stay at site 0009. The site was level and facing the field that lead to the relaxing river. You can't see the river but can hear it from the site. The river is a slight walk across the field which the grass was a little high due to recent rain. We watched birds in late afternoon and June bugs fly above the grass in the early morning. There was a nice group fire pit. It was so peaceful except for the occasionally loud vehicle going up the hill on the road on the other side of the river (trees block the majority of the road.) I have already recommended to a friend and hope to come back one day. Two days wasn't enough time.

2 nights at Wickerd Farm

It was by far one of the best stays we have had. We had 5 over landing vehicles and a total of 23 people. Mark was an incredible host! Offering to help set up and making sure our stay was enjoyably. He made sure we knew where to take the kids tubing and fishing. And telling us about his little store for eggs, candy, drinks, ice cream and bagged ice. Mark is down to earth and he genuinely cares about his guests. The site was huge giving us more than enough room to spread out for tents and vehicles. Mark’s property is at the mouth of Rocky Top Rd which was extremely convenient to our off road trip. We will definitely be back! It was over all a great stay and the kids had a blast!! Thanks again Mark!

2 nights at Wickerd Farm

Bottom line up front: would we go back? In a heartbeat! This place was fantastic! We had 8 adults, 13 kids, 1 dog, 6 vehicles (Jeeps, Power Wagon, Toyotas, etc - all Offroad vehicles) with 3 Offroad trailers - and we still could have brought more. This sore had PLENTY of space. We were in the area because of some of the off road trails nearby (and if you are looking for the same, this place is ON Rocky Top Rd - one of the best rails in the area. Couldn’t have been better for setting up base camp and going to play on the trails during the day. The kids LOVED the river spot. They played in it for hours (bring tubes! Great tubing spot). Traffic was not overwhelming, but there was a few passing through here and there throughout the day. One group of side by side riders came through Friday evening but it was only around 7pm and that was about it for people going on the trails. Mark, the property owner, is the best! He truly wants to make sure you have a fantastic stay. If you need something, just ask. He is more than willing to help than you are to ask. He even has a road side stand set up with snacks, eggs, ice cream, ice, etc at INCREDIBLE prices (nice to see in a day where everything costs so much). Heads up - bring bug repellent. You’re staying in a field and there are all kinds of bugs. We pulled off over a dozen ticks. But, that’s part of camping. Just something to be aware of. But back to the first statement: would we go back? If I could, I’d pack my bags today to go back.

Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason. My parents bought the 120 acre property in the 1960s. I started clearing and building the campsite in 2019. Watch the sun rise on one side of Troublesome Gap and watch it set on the other side. There is a circle drive for 2 teardrop / squaredrop or pop up campers and plenty of spots to pitch tents. There are also great spots to hang your hammock. Camp where my family camps. My parents bought the property in the 1960s and we have camped up here, hiked, hunted, and cut firewood many weekends. We decided to share the property so you can enjoy camping up here too! The property is in a remote location where you can enjoy the wildlife and the cooler temps in the summer. You'll have 3 acres all to yourself. You wont have to share the spot with anyone else unless you bring them. The closest grocery store is an hour away but the Trust General Store with a restaurant and gas approximately is 7 miles away. There is also a burger joint (Dave's 209) on the way to the Trust General Store. This camping site is in a remote area and the nearest neighbor about 1/2 mile away. Max Patch is about 25 minutes away and features beautiful hiking. The quaint town of Marshall is about 30 minutes away. Asheville is about an hour away. The campsite is easily accessible from Baltimore Branch Road. However Baltimore Brand Road (public road) is steep in places and we don't recommend an RV bigger than a popup camper. If you are pulling a trailer you'll really want to consider having 4wd. If you aren't used to driving on steep dirt mountain roads, you may want to bring your 4wd vehicle. If you have a 2wd vehicle, then you'll want to come to the site via Big Pine Road. This route will take you through Walnut, NC We also provide a porta-a-john for your convenience. Once the reservation is made, I'll send out an info sheet with important info like the gate combination. Please let me know if you haven't received the info sheet within a week of making the reservation. The inclusion policy below is from HipCamp corporate. Our policy is much simpler. Be respectful to others and the property and have a good time. This is a campsite where have the whole 3.5 acre property to yourself. You are surrounded by properties that vary from 40 acres to over a hundred acres. You are with the people in your campsite and pretty much no one else. We just want you to have a great time and bring home great stories. It seems like every visitor to Troublesome Gap has a great story. Come camp with us and build your own story. Important Note: Water is only available on the site from May through September. If you camp on the site Oct through April, you'll need to bring your own water. There is a camera on the property. It faces the gate (and away from the campsite). The camera is mounted on the apple tree.
