On our ranch is the original 1906 Ashley Homestead Shanty. We have a 1905 rural schoolhouse that is fully furnished for our guests to explore. A 1940s tourist cabin with two bedrooms (full-sized bed and twin-sized bed) is available for rent. We also have for rent, a new tiny house with a queen bed and a pull-out sofa.
A new two-bathroom shower house is now available for our guests' use.
There are seven electric only pedestals for your RV or camper.
A camp store has Bad River Jerky and Pemmican that our daughter produces. There is also local honey and homemade jellies (chokecherry, mulberry, strawberry, wild grape). Our cowgirl and cowboy grandkids have their homemade beaded necklaces for sale.

This ranch is the home of children's book author Cowgirl Annie. This property is a working Ranch. Some of the campsites are in an abandoned gravel pit so you will be parking on a sandy gravel base. I like to let my guests decide where they want to park. I may have to move guests to a different site than the one they booked depending on what is happening on the ranch or the weather. There are cottonwood stands close by that you can hike through to the river. A wide variety of wildlife live in this area, so no telling what you may see or hear. You will have a big area to yourselves. I have tried to plan areas so you won't be disturbed by other campers. I do not groom hiking trails. You will be at one with nature. You may want to bring bug spray, sometimes the mosquitos and horseflies are bad. Wall Drug and the Badlands National Park are about a twenty-minute drive. Mount Rushmore is about an hour and 15 minutes.

Our property is nestled between Hwy 385, the Mickelson Trail, and the National Forest.
We are located between Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park along Hwy 385 and the Mickelson Trail; about 30 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain.
The nearest towns with restaurants are Pringle, (2 miles S); Hot Springs, (24 miles S), Custer, (9.5 miles N).; Hill City, (24 miles N), and Rapid City, (50 miles N).
The blacktop driveway grants easy access for every type of vehicle.
A couple of ponds, creeks, and dispersed willow, pine, and aspen trees enhance the diversity and beauty of the landscape. It is peaceful here and we enjoy sharing it with our guests during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.
Plenty Star Ranch Retreat has our home, a big pole barn (RV storage), a garage/wood workshop with an attached restroom for all guests, a regular hot water shower cabin, 2 small home-built camping log cabins, 7 RV sites, 9 clearly marked tent and car-camping sites, and several water hydrants fed by our well, providing great quality drinking water. 2 pets maximum per campsite, no pets allowed when booking a cabin.
Check-In is 2 pm to 9 pm; Check-Out is 10 am for the cabins and 11 am for all other sites.

So, you're planning a trip to the Black Hills? You're welcome to take refuge here at our peaceful homestead. We can share even more activities near Custer or Hot Springs, a 20 min drive to either from our location. There are 3 RV sites with power, and 1 more site without power. Many spacious areas to set up tents for dispersed camping as well.
There is a large gravity fed water tank for non-potable water use. You may see a few of our chickens walking around or an occasional kitten or pup. Several deer, elk, and turkey spotted on the property.

A lovely, quiet and simple spot to stay for the night. We were the only folks there on a Monday night. We saw a beautiful sunset and sunrise. And it was such an easy drive off of 90 and then a short trip to Badlands in the AM. Nothing fancy, but just how we like it.

Such a wonderful visit to Angela's land! Angela messaged me before I arrived to share directions and suggestions. I appreciated the contact and thoroughness in her message. My little dog and I were thrilled to find we had the place to ourselves. We explored the property, driving through the trees and checking out the interesting landscape. We ended up staying at the B. Gravel Site, mostly because of the hammock and picnic table. We appreciated the shade amongst the trees along with the peace of solitude. As it got dark, we laid in the hammock and watched the moon rise, listening to the night sounds alongside cows lowing occasionally in the distance. In the morning, exploring the property a bit more, we stumbled across a flock of 8-10 wild turkey! A bonus to an already pleasant stay. Next time around, I hope to try catching some catfish in the river!

This was the perfect stop over for us on our road trip! We wanted to dispersed camp in Buffalo Gap but got into town later than expected and didn’t want to risk not having a spot. We lucked out on finding this camp site with a few hours notice and the host was so helpful in communicating info to us. The spot was private, even with another camper at the next site over. Our dogs had room to roam and explore and the views of the sunset were gorgeous. I only wish we had more time to spend there! We didn’t get to explore much but what we did see was so pretty.
My only VERY minor issue was how close the compost toilet was to the other camp site (and this is mostly because of where that camper set up). It was handy to have available but I felt like I was overstepping into the other camper’s area.

This is a great base camp for all the wonderful parks in the area. Close to the main property but secluded and quiet. It is a little sloped but we camped with an air mattress and it wasn’t a problem at all. There’s a trash can on site and that was super convenient! There is a shooting range nearby so you can hear that during the day but it wasn’t a problem. I’d pick this over the campsites at the state and county parks we saw in the area any day.

Beautiful view of the stars and hills. The host was helpful and responsive. Definitely a bit of a rustic feel.
I arrived in the early evening after a long day on the road. Staying on a working ranch was a cool experience (though it took a few minutes to adjust to the smell) and I appreciated the sound of cattle lowing at night. I’d recommend leaving the hood of your car open at night, I woke up to find a field mouse skittering around near the cabin filter and made a quick detour in rapid city to ensure that the mouse did not make an inter-state trek.
I would be excited to see what this spot looks like later in the season, but am glad I stayed and got some beautiful weather for photos (I’ll add them once I upload them).
It was about 10 minutes from WALL DRUG which you will learn lots about as you drive in that direction!

Tried finding some public land to camp on in the national grassland and couldn’t find any. This was a great option. Nice property with plenty of tree cover to protect from the wind! Maybe a little expensive just to throw down a tent but still grateful it was an option! It’s a big property and super nice they limit it to 3 spots because they definitely have the space to do more.

This is the best Hipcamp place I've stayed! The host met me and gave me a choice of locations; I picked a spot near the river with beautiful views of the breaks to the north. It was quiet and peaceful and I got the best sleep of my my entire trip! My dog loved it too. Geese and ducks and rabbits and deer and coyotes yipping at night and birds singing in the nearby trees, and the stars were gorgeous. I definitely recommend this place! Thank you Angela!
