Weekend Trip to DLR Mustang Ranch

Our experience was so peaceful that we had to stay another day. The host family was so inviting it was like we were apart of the family. The work that the family is doing on the DLR Ranch is honorable, rehabbing horses and also Helping Our Veterns. We can not wait for our next visit. I give the DLR Ranch a 10 out of 10.

We had a remarkable time at the DRL Mustang Ranch! We were seeking the perfect place to camp and enjoy nature, and boy did we find it. From the stunning mustangs, donkeys, peacocks, ducks, and of course Fred the friendly Turkey, we truly had a wonderful time and were one with nature. Weekend Trip to DLR Mustang Ranch

Our experience was nothing short of amazing. We were greeted by a wealth of animals both domestic and wild, yet the ambiance was incredibly peaceful. What set this place apart from all the others was the host, Renee, and her family. They were warm, inviting and gracious. The story behind the mission of their ranch for both the Mustangs and Veterans is honorable and is a reflection of the family you will meet. All this along with comfortable accommodations makes this "my go to place".

It was a home away from home ❤️ Loved every second of it from the critters, to the frog pond to the amazing little place to lay our heads. I couldn't have asked for better hosts. Be prepared to become best friends with the turkey Fred though...what a stud of a bird. Lol

It was our first time camping here. My husband, me and our 2 dogs. So peaceful our camp site was close to the waterfall and loved listening to it. Chris was helpful and responded quickly to my question.

Great site and location. Quite and off the beaten path, my husband and I enjoyed our time in nature. The level platform was a nice touch it made things much easier to setup as well as sleeping in the tent more comfortable. The waterfall on the property was also very nice and fun to explore.

The farm that this campsite is located on sure lives up to its name. We enjoyed many other animals on top of the beautiful equine that surrounded us. The willingness of the owner to help us out in any way possible was pleasantly surprising. They also carry out an awesome mission there that you would have to check out for yourself. Just returned from an incredible camping trip, and I’m already thinking about when I can go back. The views were breathtaking, and the property itself was well cared for and beautifully remote—exactly the kind of escape I was looking for. Each campsite felt completely secluded, giving you a true off-the-grid experience. The highlight for me? A picture-perfect waterfall that looked like something out of a travel magazine. It was the perfect spot to relax and soak in nature’s beauty. Special shoutout to our host, Chris, who went above and beyond. Super friendly, extremely helpful, and made the entire experience even better. Can’t recommend this place enough!

I would absolutely recommend this site! Note that this is an open field (no trees) at the top of a hill, but there is a wooded area with a large table very close by. Worth it because the view is beautiful! It was also so convenient to already have a tent with a bed and a second structure set up. Maggie was a responsive, kind, and helpful host.

2 nights at River Hills Above the Allegheny

We just returned from an incredible stay at this hidden gem above the Allegheny, and wow — the views were absolutely breathtaking! Waking up surrounded by that kind of natural beauty is something we won’t soon forget. We’re already planning a return trip in the fall when it’s less overgrown and easier to explore more of the land. Just a heads up for future guests: it is a deep wooded area, so definitely bring tick protection — we came home with a few hitchhikers, but that’s just part of the wilderness experience. During our stay, we encountered a variety of wildlife and made sure to respectfully observe them without disrupting their space. It really added to the charm and authenticity of the setting. Chris was a fantastic host — so kind, patient, and informative. He answered all of my questions (and there were a lot!) with such genuine care. Both Chris and Ashley were super upfront before we booked about what to expect — especially the road conditions. We were grateful to have a 4WD vehicle because the terrain wouldn’t be friendly to smaller cars. We recommend bringing your own firewood, though Chris was great about pointing us toward what we could use to get our fires started easily. All in all, a perfect rustic getaway if you’re looking to unplug and enjoy the wild beauty of Pennsylvania. We can’t wait to come back — thank you, Chris and Ashley!

Weekend Trip to River Hills Above the Allegheny

We had an amazing time at the Pine Canopy site. This was our second trip to Chris’s land, and he was a great host with answering any questions we had. The driveway to the site can be a little rough after a hard rain, but we managed fine in our truck (my son actually loved the “off roading” feel to it). Once you get to Pine Canopy, you’ll be amazed. It is private, spacious, and the scenery is beautiful. Our weekend was a complete washout yet this still was by far one of our favorite camping trips. The outhouse is right on site, and if it is full, the other one is only a short walk down the driveway! I highly recommend bringing trekking poles if exploring the waterfall trail as they will come in handy after a heavy rain! The waterfall is by far one of the best perks of Chris’s land. We had such an amazing time with family, and we are already planning our next trip up!

My husband and I, have been living here for twenty years and just enjoy the beauty this valley has to offer. We see bald eagles everyday, and every once in while some otters can be seen playing in the river. Black Fox Island is visible downstream and provides a pool in the river that is a mile long. A person can easily paddle upstream; when the river is at normal summer levels. Over 100 years ago, this was an industrial area with railroads, deep mines, strip mines, and gristmills. Some remnants of those times are still visible. Paddling, biking, walking, fishing and swimming are some of the activities to do here, but doing nothing and watching the river go by seems to be the most popular.

Located just outside of Parker, PA and 25 minutes from I-80, our campsite is very accessible, yet still very remote. With 4 campsites on 75 acres, guests have ample privacy and space, with the freedom to roam this posted property that has no homes on it. Perched high above the Allegheny there are several spots to take in the wonderful views. There is also a waterfall with a 3’ deep pool below it. Great for splashing with kids or dogs, guests love exploring the creek bottom and making new discoveries. The more curious guests sometimes find the ruins of the original homestead, chimney and spring house that sit upstream. The property is teeming with wildlife. Birds and tree frogs will be the soundtrack of your visit, and often deer will be seen nosing along the outskirts of your site in the mornings and evenings. Turkey, bald eagles and even bear are occasionally spotted, so be prepared to secure your food and trash at night. For those coming to disconnect, you have found the right place. But if cell service is needed, you will have enough to get texts out and depending what site you booked, calls and internet as well. DLR Mustang Ranch

Located roughly 20 miles from Beaver Creek State Park, DLR Mustang Ranch is a 17-acre peaceful sanctuary for many wild and previously wild mustangs. The Ranch offers veteran and first responder mustang programs year-round. Please let us know if you are a veteran or first responder for a special rate. Accommodations include a small one-room cabin nestled on a little pond. The cabin has electricity, a microwave, small refrigerator, tv, futon, heating and cooling; however, it does not have plumbing. Nearby is an outhouse with electricity and a water pump fed from well water. There is a firepit for cooking and picnic tables available. There is also flat space for tent camping beside the cabin area. If a more secluded area is preferred, there is a 4-acre field in the back of the property surrounded by woods; however, it should be noted the only outhouse is located by the cabin. Splitting the property in half at the bottom of a wooded hill is a quiet stream full of small wildlife. Coyotes often cut through the woods and the 4-acre pasture. There is space for an RV in the driveway next to the woods with electric hookup and access to the outhouse, water pump, and firepit. While this is a working ranch with farm animals, our aim is to create a peaceful relaxing environment in order to unwind and enjoy the creation around us. Going in the pastures with horses while unaccompanied by the owners is prohibited; however, it can be arranged for you to meet and interact with the mustangs if interested. There are other farm animals including sheep, a goat, pigs, donkeys, peacocks, turkeys, chickens and ducks on the premises. If you want a quaint country escape complete with farm sounds, this is the spot for you!

Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 30 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods.Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away. Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter. The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away. It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs. We provide a bunk bed and cots and 2 picnic tables.. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents. There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin, but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures. The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk! If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

Before the island was protected by ALT, the island had periodic interludes of recognition and appreciation by humans as a natural refuge. In 1936, both Sycamore Island and Nine Mile Island were leased from the Pennsylvania Railroad by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, making these islands the first bird sanctuaries in the Pittsburgh region. The Harbor Isle Boat Club was in existence on the island during the late 1960s but was later abandoned leaving behind several significant features; including a barge that remains embedded in the sand at the island’s southern tip, a partially installed swimming pool, docking platform, and a series of offshore pilings in the back channel.

Eighteen Acres is conveniently postured near I-79 (3 minutes) / I-80 (5 minutes), The Grove City Outlets (4 minutes), Big Rail Brewing (30 seconds), and Keystone Safari (10 seconds). We sit at the midpoint between Grove City College (8 minutes) and Slippery Rock University (9 minutes). Today, you'll see the property offers a single RV site (with 50/30amp electric hookup and water) for those looking to escape the city and find reprieve in the country. Lord willin', more RV and camp sites will be on the way! We intend to be available May 1st to October 31st (weather pending). Pricing is about $40+ less (nightly) than the KOA! Plus you get a huge space. There is no bath house, sewer/dump station (for black/gray water), or showers at this time, but you'll see we are working towards those things. With good planning and if you prefer, we can be there to help you set up. The site will be clearly marked, and there is more than enough room to back in/out. We can host the largest of rigs (even up to 45 feet). As you can imagine, it takes a lot of mowing to manage grounds of this size. There is a red storage building (for our mower) about 10 yards from the site that we reserve the right to access. We want the place in top shape for you, and we will not mow or weed-wack near your site during your stay. We do have three well behaved pups, and we are about 60 yards away from this site in our cabin. Sorry to say, we are not yet comfortable with guests bringing pets, but this may change soon. Must love dogs, because we do take ours throughout the property for exercise. Though you will see sewer clean outs, our system is not equipped or available for RV septic use as this time. Tampering with or attempting to use the clean outs will likely lead to a discontinuation of your stay. Please forgive us, we are working on a plan for this in the future.
