Just renovated for winter camping! Completely sealed up and draft free. Still a very primitive site, but the interior now keeps in the warmth from the fireplace. A set of bunk beds and a4 seat table as well as some could makes it work for up to 6 people. Plenty of tent area around of you have a bigger group! Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 30 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods. Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking, frisbee course and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away. Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter. The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away. It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs. We provide a bunk bed and cots and 2 picnic tables.. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents. There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin, but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures. The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk! If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. This is in a very rural part of Pennsylvania and camping in the winter weather can be difficult. So please prepare yourself with additional sleeping bags for winter. The tent is heated but because of the unpredictable and sometimes dangerous weather you need to be prepared. The bathroom is also outdoors so there will not be a shower provided till after the freezing weather. And the loo is not heated. It is also recommended that you have all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive to get to the campsite in the winter. It is possible to walk from road to site. But you should consider this when booking. RTR is a very beautiful place in the winter but it can also be dangerous if you’re not prepared.

Sycamore Island and its campsite are managed by Allegheny Land Trust, a 501c3 land conservation nonprofit helping local people save local land in the Pittsburgh region. We are able to review and respond to camping requests Monday - Friday between 9 am - 5 pm. Acquired and protected by Allegheny Land Trust in 2008, Sycamore Island is a floodplain forest with a ranking of “high significance” within the Allegheny River Biological Diversity Area (BDA) Natural Heritage Area. Before the island was protected by ALT, the island had periodic interludes of recognition and appreciation by humans as a natural refuge. In 1936, both Sycamore Island and Nine Mile Island were leased from the Pennsylvania Railroad by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, making these islands the first bird sanctuaries in the Pittsburgh region. The Harbor Isle Boat Club was in existence on the island during the late 1960s but was later abandoned leaving behind several significant features; including a barge that remains embedded in the sand at the island’s southern tip, a partially installed swimming pool, docking platform, and a series of offshore pilings in the back channel.

Very easy to find, well kept, quiet campsite by the creek. Though the weather was quite cold, I really enjoyed my stay at Muddy Myst. The trails were easy to navigate and the pond was beautiful! Can’t wait to come back in the warmer months for a dip!! Can’t thank you enough Liam enough for the complimentary coffee- much needed after waking up in 30 degrees!!! Will definitely be back:)

My pup and I loved our overnight stay. The property is beautiful and quiet. We woke in the morning to a herd of deer walking through camp. Having electric available was a big bonus. We were car camping and being able to have a car heater to keep us cozy was perfect on a 30 degree night. My pup loved being able to be off leash.

This was our first stay at Muddy Myst after looking at it on Hipcamp for a while now! With the state parks closing it was the perfect time to try this place out, and it was amazing!! 3 nights at Clear Creek Cook Forest Campsite

This site is perfect! The road is a bit rough towards then end, but it’s a short distance. Do go to the left as Josh recommends! We went right without our camper to see and don’t, just don’t. The site is well kept and private and very big. Perfect to let our dog, Sully, roam free the whole time. It was his first camping trip. A+ for Sully. Already thinking about coming back next year. Thank you for the nice relaxing time!

Rebecca and her family were magnificent hosts for our family. They were so kind, and made sure we had everything we needed and more. The tent itself was so cozy and the bathroom very clean. We enjoyed making s’mores atvthe campfire and gazing at the beautiful starry sky. We even got to meet the farm animals before we left. It was a great to have our own private space and we highly recommend staying here!

Weekend Trip to Clear Creek Cook Forest Campsite

We absolutely love this campsite! This is not the first time we've been here, and certainly won't be the last! This site is absolutely perfect for our family and dog! It is private, quiet, beautiful and clean! Sitting at the campfire and staring into the woods is life-giving. Our kids and dog can run around without any worry. The electric and water hook ups are so nice to have as well! There are several picnic tables to use and an awesome fire ring. Pulling in and out are super easy because of the nicely graveled area! Don't let the road coming in discourage you...this is no indication of what you'll experience once you're there! We thank Josh and his family for allowing us to use the site again to end our 2025 camping season (we began with them too!) We will certainly be back in 2026!

Fantastic property! We rented the tree cabin but the tent sites also looked great. All the amenities you could ask for while still being rustic and private. We visited for our annual fall leaf peeping trip, but we fully intend to come back in the summer--we are excited to take advantage of the cute little pond for swimming and kayaking. Would highly recommend!!
