The history of the Pump House began in 1878, when three ambitious men hatched a plan for the world's first long-distance underground oil pipeline which would transport oil from well to refinery more quickly and efficiently than the horse-drawn wagons of the time. Pumping stations were needed every fifty miles along this long route to keep pressure on the pipeline so that the oil could reach its destination. Pump House Bed and Breakfast is one of the only properties in the country in which the both the original homes of the foremen and the large brick buildings remain. Doug, owner, has spent more than 20 years lovingly restoring these foreman houses as well as the large industrial brick buildings. The Brick Barn Hall once housed steam pumps to pressurize the pipe and keep the oil moving, and the Catawissa Cabin behind it served as the telegraph office. The Studio Hall contained boilers that produced the steam to power the pumps, while the adjoining Studio Cabin functioned as a blacksmith's workspace. Today, the buildings function as reception spaces for weddings and other special events, and house private suites as well as an art studio where Doug pursues his work and teaches drawing, ceramics, and stained glass classes. The history of the Pump House began in 1878, when three ambitious men hatched a plan for the world's first long-distance underground oil pipeline which would transport oil from well to refinery more quickly and efficiently than the horse-drawn wagons of the time. Pumping stations were needed every fifty miles along this long route to keep pressure on the pipeline so that the oil could reach its destination. Pump House Bed and Breakfast is one of the only properties in the country in which the both the original homes of the foremen and the large brick buildings remain. Doug, owner, has spent more than 20 years lovingly restoring these foreman houses as well as the large industrial brick buildings. The Brick Barn Hall once housed steam pumps to pressurize the pipe and keep the oil moving, and the Catawissa Cabin behind it served as the telegraph office. The Studio Hall contained boilers that produced the steam to power the pumps, while the adjoining Studio Cabin functioned as a blacksmith's workspace. Today, the buildings function as reception spaces for weddings and other special events, and house private suites as well as an art studio where Doug pursues his work and teaches drawing, ceramics, and stained glass classes. We had a perfect fall Sunday followed by a rainy Monday that somehow made the cabin even better. Warm, quiet, and easy to settle into. Jennifer was kind and responsive, and everything felt thoughtful without trying too hard. We found and brought an old CD player, a crate of our old scratched mix CDs, and ended up listening by the fire, laughing at what used to be our favorite songs and what stuck. Turns out, that’s about as good as it gets. Highly recommend bringing a few of your own instant time machine.

Great place to stay! Russ is a kind and patient guy I got to the campsite really late and still he met me there and showed me where I was gonna be staying and I really appreciated that! Lots of hiking and scenery, great patio on the back of the cabin, comes with a fridge and microwave for any food you bring. There is no insulation so whatever the temperature it is outside it will also be inside, except in the summer there is a window unit, and it’s a tin roof so rain is extra loud on the roof. Other than these things I would recommend anyone stay here for a weekend of solitude or a family getaway!

This place is phenomenal. You can see that the owners really care, everything is so nicely made in clean like I really upgraded Hotel. The hot tub took me about six hours to get my desired temperature. Part of it was because I didn’t know. I have to close the door while it was burning. But after all, it was well worth the work! I have noticed over the years there are two types of places, one, is where the owner wants to make money and have no choice, but to serve so he can collect from his guest money. Two, an owner that wants to serve his guest, but has no choice and have to charge money in order to stay open and be able to serve more people The owners from this place are from the second category, they want to give and serve their guest. I really enjoyed this place. It is very peaceful and clean, perfect for resting and disconnecting. The surroundings are beautiful: watching the sunrise over the lake, the sunsets, and the bonfires at night made the experience unforgettable. The nature around brings peace and energy, ideal for relaxing and reconnecting. The hosts were very attentive and always available for anything I needed. You can feel the care and dedication they put into maintaining the place, which makes you feel welcome from the very first moment. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I definitely recommend it. It’s a place I would love to return to.

We had a fantastic Labor Day weekend in Cubby 1! It’s a very cute little cabin with a comfortable bed, back deck with a gorgeous view, and a nice little fire pit out front. Everything was super clean, and it was furnished with a fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, Keurig, and a few other kitchen appliances. No running water in the cabin, but there’s a spigot right out front with potable water. They also have a window AC and a space heater inside, which definitely helped a bit during the night when it was cold, even though the cabin isn’t insulated. It’s a huge step up from our normal tent camping, but still rustic and close to nature. We loved our weekend here and will definitely be back!
