Just outside the quaint town of Austin sits a vivid reminder of one of Pennsylvania's worst disasters – the Austin Flood. In 1909, the dam was constructed on Freeman Run to power the Bayless Papermill downstream. Many wondered if the dam was safe. On September 30, 1911, Austin found out. Poor construction, coupled with torrential rain, resulted in the dam's collapse. Nearly 400 million gallons of water were released, destroying everything for 8 miles. At least 78 people perished in the tragedy. It was the second worst flood disaster in Pennsylvania's history and sixth worst dam failure in U.S. history. The tragedy sparked new legislation to improve dam safety, and the Austin Dam was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The ruins of the dam still stand, surrounded by a 76-acre park, as a tribute to the lives lost in the Austin Flood. Don't miss one of Potter County's best kept secrets!

Our property is located near the tiny village of Glen Hazel, our unique area offers close proximity to many watersports and hiking opportunities.
Visitors can watch bald eagles and osprey as you enjoy kayaking, fishing and nature at this primitive campsite. We have just one site. Our campsite is very private and includes a fire ring, a picnic table a trash can and a swing. Parking is available right at the site. It's just a 2 minute walk to the northernmost kayak launch on the East Branch of the Clarion River. Here you will find a public porta potty for use during the summer only. Several small jack dams will make your kayak experience a delight. We have a private 1 acre pond just a stones throw from the campsite that visitors can enjoy. Fishing is permitted in the pond, no license needed. Fly fishermen will enjoy the thrill of catching native and stocked trout in the most beautiful section on the East Branch of the Clarion River (PA fishing license and trout stamp required).
Nearby is Bendigo State Park that offers free use of picnic areas and swimming in an immaculately kept pool. Just 1 1/2 miles away is the Dam Inn where you can stop for a beer or for a nice dinner on the deck. Adjacent to the campsite is State Gamelands #25. Happy Trails Landing offers primitive camping and is located between Bully Hill, Klipnocky, Gas Springs and Hiltonville State Forests on 140 acres of privately owned land. This peaceful spot is accessible, yet remote. The Finger Lakes Trail (FLT) follows the edge of the property for over 1/2 mile making your stay ideal for day hikes, or as a stop for those hiking longer sections of the 450+ mile network. Wade in the headwaters of the Canisteo River which passes through, or just get lost in the beauty along its shores. Explore streams and beaver ponds, stroll on miles of mowed grassy trails that wind around fields, meadows, and woods. Happy Trails will strive to keep your camping experience peaceful and private by not renting to more than one party at a time in the same area unless requested for larger group experiences. Our home is located 1/4 +/- mile from most sites. We are dog lovers and well behaved dogs are welcome as long as owners notify us in advance, keep them in control and clean up after them.

Bring a water filter, water is safe but has the sulfur smell. A charcoal filter is recommended.
The circular driveway provides easy access. Toy hauler or horse trailers welcome. ATV can get in the DCNR connector trail right from the driveway. Hunters are welcome to hunt the many acres of public land in the area. Not permitted on our property.
There is wildlife including bear, deer and Turkey we often see ducks, eagles, gross beaks, and cardinals just to name a few.
This is the place to come to park you RV and retreat to the creek in back of property if you want time to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.
There may be other people on the property if we are there or if the house is rented. There is plenty of space for all.

We loved camping here. Marie and her family were extremely accommodating & friendly. The campsite is awesome. It is secluded and there is allot of area for your exclusive use while camping here. My daughter loved watching the cows play. The outhouse provided was spotless and the outdoor showered is really cool. Some unexpected added features were the provided hammocks, and welcoming packet that included chicken food to feed the chickens on the farm. I almost hate to leave this honest review - because I want the site to be available when I want to use it. Lol. We will definitely stay here again. (Hopefully very soon)

Marie was fantastic in every aspect with directions and explaining about her lively farm. Very beautiful area as we sere there at the peak of Fall at Allegany. If you enjoy out of the hustle and bustle and want to enjoy all aspects of a farm, this is your place . Dont miss out on the breakfast either.

This campground was a gem to stay at. I'll give you the good and the "bad". The hosts were quite hospitable and have done a wonderful job adding some great amenities to the campground like the communal kitchen which is well stocked, WiFi connection and bath house. It's a great place to hang out with family and friends, make delicious meals together and play games. The downside is that you can hear the trucks and cars from the highway whizzing by regardless the time of day and the barking of dogs. For someone who lives in the city I was hoping for a quiet getaway but that didn't happen. Despite this, however, I definitely would recommend this place because the hospitality from the hosts and beautiful scenery makes up for it. I'd be open to coming back (I just wouldn't tent camp like I did) next year though.

This was my second time to visit, and just like last time. . It was amazing. I took my grandson with me for his first camping trip. The stars at night and frozen pond blew his mind! The only thing that upset him was that the deer ran off when he made noise, but he is 5, so to be expected. Definitely going to return!

Work in progress with enormous potential. Owners are dedicated to the upgrade of this campground. Stayed in the 200 section that had water hookups and 30amp. It was pleasant, quiet, large sites with friendly people. They had the biggest bonfire going I've ever seen. When they finish the 100 section right along the ischuia creek, this could be the gem of the Olean Franklinville area. I would consider a seasonal site here in the future.

The new owners are making lots of terrific changes at the campground; they were friendly and engaged. Even drove out in the pouring rain to help us find our spot!
The campground itself is made up of lawn spots, some of which are next to the creek. It's a pretty open layout, but we felt like we had some sense of privacy, as well.
