The fields have some groundhog holes, and we would be devastated if your dog was running and broke a leg if a leg slipped in a hole. We just want them safe.
B- Awww poop! Alot of people use the camping area as a barefoot area so please clean up their poop.
3. Quiet time after 10PM: This just means no screaming. Play your guitar and sing until the sun rises if that makes you happy.
4. Alcohol: We would prefer you skip the drinks and just get high, but if your soul needs a drink please drink responsibly. (Don't be that guy)

This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports.
The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site.
We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Read the entire narrative on the cabin (Tiny Fern House) before booking.

We began operating our 150 acre farm in 2011 and became the first Certified Naturally Grown Livestock farm in West Virginia in 2013. We raise 100% grass-fed beef, Western and Chinese medicinal herbs. Cathedral State Park (WV) a virgin Hemlock forest with 400 year old trees about 45 minutes away. Deep Creek Lake (MD) is 40 minutes away and offers motor boat rentals, Golf, Skiing and swimming. There is skiing, hiking, biking, tubing, rafting, kayaking and much more to explore within 40 minutes of our farm. The best white water rafting on the east coast is 20-40 minutes away.Farm products are available for purchase on-site. Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. This spot is best for a van camp location but plenty of space for tents and hammocks. You'll find a drive-up deck if you wish to park there. Firewood is available providing you use downfalls as kindling in the stone fire pit. A 8x20' deck and picnic table are 20 feet from the fire for stargazing. When the ferns are full grown they are 3 feet tall and everywhere. A 10 minute walk takes you through a dense pine forest with large rock formations and a nice creek with many gurgling fall areas. If there looks like a cave amongst the large rocks, then it probably is a bear den.
There is a lot to do near by. Some note worthy locations :
Cranberry Glade Lake (good for kayaking or fishing), Ohiopyle, 7 Springs, Fallingwater, Living Treasures, Caddie Shak, and Hidden Valley are all about 25 minutes away. This property also borders Laurel Ridge State Park.
There is a Dollar General and a gas station about 15 minutes away for convenience needs.

Beautiful land with a great view of the stars. It felt very private which was ideal for us. We explored some of the trails and saw an abundance of frogs and even deer. The host was kind enough to let our dogs roam off leash and they had a blast!

The site was quiet and secluded. There were other campers in the other site, but I couldn’t see them through the trees. The sites are separated by a small pond, trees, and a ravine. Tommy is super nice and checked in on his bicycle a few times to make sure I didn’t need anything. I’ll definitely be going back.

I had the pleasure of an extended stay at Jeff's camp so I am taking the opportunity to write another review!
Jeff is super kind, flexible and an awesome Hipcamp host. If you get to talking to him, he will share some incredible history and prior photos of the campsite area. He's put a lot of time and dedication into making this an amazing and relaxing retreat for folks. I was fascinated to learn some historical details!
The space is tranquil, private and has all of the basics anyone would need at camp. Not to mention there's plenty of room for a large group or for kids and/or pets to run and play (with staying cautious around the train tracks).
For anyone passing through on the bike trail it is not far at all and would make a great overnight stop. There are very nearby provisions in town (Smithton) at a little market.
For travelers there is an RV dump and hot showers (towels/washcloth provided) right up the road at Flying J truck stop. Walmart and groceries are about 10 minutes away in nearby Belle Vernon.
Some nearby attractions include Smithton Beach for swimming, Bloom brewery in West Newton (with some great pizza shops, Fox Pizza being my favorite), Vinoski winery, Round Hill animal park in nearby Elizabeth (good for kids), and if you're up for the trip, Kennywood amusement park or the city of Pittsburgh.

We loved the privacy of this spot for camping with our 2 dogs. The trains ran often and we enjoyed watching them. This spot was easy to find, felt secluded enough, yet convenient to Confluence for last minute munchies, walking the bike trail with the dogs and driving 20 mins to OhioPyle for beautiful hiking.
The porta potty was spotless and the picnic tables came in handy.
It’s Early spring and the leaves weren’t on the trees yet, yet it still felt very private from the road behind us and the bike trail.
The road by the trains ( across the river) was busier than what we expected, but with more leaves on the trees, I expect you wouldn’t notice the cars as much and it’s a worthwhile trade off to have this little gem of a camping spot to ourselves!
We will definitely choose this spot again for camping whenever we’re staying in the area.

Absolutely loved camping here even in the snow. The property was gorgeous and T1 was very private. Location was great for hiking with Snake Hill wildlife management area right down the road. Tommy was an excellent host, replied very quickly and was very generous. Would recommend, definitely going to return in the summer for the swimming hole.

Everything exactly as described. The port-a-john was spotless, the site is just off the road, but in a low traffic area. I enjoyed the trains going by on the other side of the river. It's a short distance to Ohiopyle State Park.

Jeffrey's spot is incredible. Secluded, spacious, and peaceful, right on the river. The covered patio area is also really nice with picnic tables. I'm staying here while spending some time with nearby family, in my hand-built "tiny cabin on wheels."
Being originally from this area, I can tell you this is absolutely a rare hidden gem you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere.
As a host, Jeffrey is extremely responsive, very chill and respectful, and has been very helpful.
My only heads up to other Hipcampers is that the train is right there, and travel into the site includes a very short stint across then next to the tracks. The train is loud - I'm used to it, I've been hearing that train most of my life - but if you're not used to trains it maybe a little loud at first.
But everything about the site is quite perfect, in my opinion. Even the train. :)

We had a great time on Jim’s property. We set out to do a winter campout using our hot stove tent but the weather had other plans! We still used the stove at night, but the weather during the day was unseasonably warm and gorgeous. The wooden deck was a great spot to set up our camp kitchen and we enjoyed some smash burgers under the stars.
The site felt very private and was a great place to chill after spending the day hiking in Ohiopyle (only about 25 minutes away). Would highly recommend this site. Thanks, Jim!

2 nights at Ferns in the Forest
Me and my partner chose to rent this cabin for thanksgiving. It was absolutely fabulous, the cabin is so cozy, the composting toilet did not bring any smell, the shower was great, the bed was very comfortable and the view from the bed was the best part of the trip. I cannot wait to rent this again.
Virgil and his wife were also very welcoming. I highly recommend renting this property.

Weekend Trip to Olde Tyme Cabins
The location was perfect! We felt secluded in our little camp and were able to hike up the hillside nearby. We loved the campfire with the lights strung around, and there were roasting sticks in one of the RV cubbies. The hot tub was amazing. We did get rained out of the hot tub, since there is no awning over it, but once the rain stopped, we were able to enjoy again. The master bed was comfortable, and the bunk beds have a curtain to keep lights out for later sleepers. We camped in mid-November and stayed warm and cozy the whole time. Our only complaint was the water. It never quite worked well enough to shower, and washing dishes was frustrating. We did let our hosts know, and they came quickly to work on it, which helped for a short while, but didn't last the duration.

Weekend Trip to Ferns in the Forest
Virgil & Pam really go above and beyond at The Fern House! The cabin was comfy and stocked with everything one could need for an extended weekend away. Our hosts were generous and gracious. They provide great communication and hospitality. We spent 3 nights and wish it could've been longer! Our pups loved the mile walk around the property each morning plus great hiking spots nearby. We took advantage of the fireplace, local eatery suggestions, and the loft was the perfect hideaway for resting and waking to beautiful wooded views. We cant wait to come back!

beautiful campsite! there are lovely trails near by. my only recommendation is to check the weather!! firewood may be a little wet depending on when your camping. besides that? 10/10
