Tucked Away Retreat evolved from empty acreage to an easy retreat from the city and an opportunity to share our love of the rural life. Located in the Chapman area of Scappoose, this area is rich in logging history; the Crown Zellerbach trail is an old logging road and now an 18 mile hiking/biking "story board" of the life and culture of both the Native American Indians that lived in the area and the evolution of logging. Just over the peak of the CZ trail (which is approximately 3 miles from our property) is an old mine, just one example of many hidden areas to explore. Our retreat is just 45 minutes from Portland, yet feels a world away. You can relax in the quiet or explore the trail, the small towns that dot Highway 30 or head to the river. If you continue West on Highway 30, you will pass through many small logging towns, the old Trojan Nuclear site and eventually land in Astoria on the coast.

Tucked Away Retreat is quiet and peaceful yet 45 minutes from Portland.
Located on 4 private acres, watch the deer wander through the property or the hawks float overhead. Bring your bikes and hit the Crown Zellerbach trail, or hike it instead. We are located approximately 0.8 mile from the trail. Visit Sauvie's Island, the largest inland island in the United States.
Paddle or kayak on Scappoose Bay, head up to the Trojan frisbee-golf course, or just relax on the lawn. We are also an easy drive from Vernonia, the Nehalem River and Big Eddy Park.
We offer two sites; Site A is on flat gravel that enjoys full sun. Site A is across from the large grassy area, perfect for sunning and relaxing.
Site B is on gravel on the upper drive and is shaded most of the day. Site B is best suited for camper vans, truck campers or small trailers due to trees along the back curve of the driveway. Large trailers/RV's and motorhomes will fit in Site B but you may need to back in.
Site B is backed by our private, small shop. The two sites are separated by trees. Both sites have 120v, 30amp and water hookups.
The property can accommodate one or two additional RV's in spots adjacent to both sites for multiple vehicle groups; contact us for more information if you are a larger group. Additional vehicles are an extra charge.
Please be aware that we are RV only, we have no outhouse, so we cannot accommodate tents or folks who want to sleep in their vehicle. We will consider an exception if you have a RV/trailer and kids who want to sleep in a tent. Please reach out to us prior to booking for this exception.
We do not allow "shower" tents.
Also please note that there is no cell service once you leave Highway 30; you have to have WiFi calling capabilities to use your cell phone.
These sites are on our private property. For Site A, you may position your RV to view the grassy area and not the house.

Throughout winter, there will only be one RV site beside the river, providing an intimate and private setting to enjoy the sounds of the rushing river. With access to the picturesque Molalla River, you can enjoy fishing, relaxing in the lounge chairs provided, or under cover of my "Cowzebo".
New for 2026! We now have a Group Site available from Spring forward. You will have the whole place to yourself! It will automatically block other sites when this site is reserved. If one of the individual sites is already booked for your preferred weekend, the group option will not be available so reserve as soon as you can.
More about the property:
- This is a regenerative farm, just starting. Last season I focused on chickens- for flocks (egg layers for backyard chickens) and freezers (meat birds- available for your camp dinner). Some cows and sheep roam the front pasture and my goal is to grow their numbers to be able to improve the soil health here at the farm.
-My tiny home is in the area of the sites, but far enough away to maintain privacy. Otherwise it is a private and secluded area. Because I live on site, I will not allow repeat visits if groups become rowdy or disrespectful.
-There is ELECTRICITY and WATER on site for 1 RV. The electricity is through a standard household outlet so an adaptor will be necessary, and possibly an extension cord, depending on where you choose to set up. An outhouse with a composting TOILET and sink are available, but no shower. However, in winter months, the sink will be turned off to protect pipes. Water is still available from an in ground frost free spigot.
-There is a FIREPIT for evening musing, don't forget your marshmallows. Firewood is available on site for $10/night with an unlimited supply (or free if you want to gather downed limbs).
- There is an old hay wagon converted into a covered picnic area that I call the COWZEBO for use in bad weather. Enjoy a meal here with a great view of the river.
- FRIENDLY DOGS are welcome. Know that my dogs also hang out here. If your dog is aggressive or timid, please consider other accommodations.

THE PROPERTY:
Our campsites are on two beautiful ponds with a seasonal creek in an old growth cedar forest with a few trails to enjoy the stillness and magic of the woods.
There are 11 acres with a vineyard, fruit orchard, large garden, cob garden wall for lounging, fire pit at the vineyard with several picnic tables and hammocks, a big open field above the camping area, and the beautiful cedar forest.
We consider this land sacred. We are only caretakers passing through, and honor this place and the original people of this land: The Molalla, Clackamas, and Kalapuya tribes, who were "relocated" to the Grand Ronde Reservation in the mid 1800's.
Please be mindful of the energy of the forest, and all the people and animals who still reside and have come before.
The forest is home to beavers, coyote, deer, raccoons, salamanders, frogs, and many bird species.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE:
Proceed down our long driveway to the bottom. Take a left at the sport court, and continue right. On your left is the woodshed with the "Calliope Farm" mural. You will see two parking spots to the left of the woodshed (Harmony Hollow parking) and two on the right (Hobbit Circle)
You can unload here and grab a cart.
Across from the parking, on the red barn, is the water station, and the hot tub sign up sheet.
You will be walking/carting your things down to the forest where you will pass the outhouse on the left.
For Harmony Hollow, after you cross the first bridge, take the path to the left and cross a second bridge and the campsite is on your right.
For Hobbit Circle, cross the first bridge and walk around the pond, which will lead you to the campsite.
The campsites are a short walk, (200 yards) but there is a decline, and you need to be a little hearty to walk back up the hill with your things.
You will have a good amount of space and privacy for your group, but may encounter others visiting the forest as well.
Enjoy a social time while respecting that some come for quiet and reflection.
We provide a picnic table
We wish to all work together for safety, with intelligence, common sense, and fire consciousness.
OFFERINGS:
We have a cedar hot tub, massage therapy, and an outdoor shower. The charge for the hot tub is $15 per person for 75 minutes of hot tub time. You can schedule the hot tub for privacy at the sign up sheet on the barn.
If you would like to shower and not hot tub, the cost is $5 per shower, otherwise its included in the hot tub fee, and required for hot tub entrance.
If you, or anyone in your group did not pay for a hot tub ahead of time, you will find a Venmo link on the barn, or can bring cash.
HOT TUB:
The hot tub sign up sheet is on the barn next to the water station. It is first come first serve. If you are a larger group using the tub, consider choosing a later spot for water displacement.
If the hot tub is too hot, please add cold water from the hose to desired temp.
PLEASE do not turn down the temperature on the hot tub, but use the cold water to create desired temp, but not below 102.
If you are staying multiple nights and would like to hot tub again, the cost is $10 pp, instead of $15. Kids under 10 are $5
The hot tub is to the right of the house down by the garden. Your time is private, but we may need to visit/work in the garden.
PLEASE read and be mindful of the hot tub etiquette posted in the hot tub area.
VINEYARD:
~Silas Wines~ This is the original vineyard for Silas Wines founded in 2010.
Our Pinot Noir vines are 40 year old Wadensville clone planted by the Ritter family in the early 80's.
You are welcome to walk the vineyard, and explore the front of the property. Our neighbor Beth, to the west, is a master gardener, and loves to give tours of her gardens or you can wander on your own. (please inquire)
Dogs:
Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog. We and our neighbors have chickens that are penned and free ranged.
Please DO NOT allow your dog (or yourself) to roam on our neighbors property over the fence in the next field to the East. He is very friendly, and we have a good relationship, but that is his request.
Please pick up after your dog. Please do not lose site of dog, and keep them on leash in common areas.
Please do not leave your dog unattended at the campsite or anywhere on the property where they will bark and disturb other guests.
THE CARAVAN SPOT:
Please let us know if you are needing a van camping spot opposed to tent camping in the woods. We do have a few different options for car camping, and when booking select the "caravan spot". We also can split up your group if some are tent camping and others need van camping, but you would need to book the two different sites.

Southwest Community Park, 41.9 acres, an undeveloped nature park in the Southwest Gresham Neighborhood (East Portland).
The Park is partially wooded and slopes east towards 19 acres of Fairview Creek Headwaters. Views include Grant and Jenne Buttes and Mt. St. Helens.
The Park contains a large Western Red Cedar/Mixed Tree Grove and a Douglas Fir Grove, both of which are identified on the City’s significant tree list.
The Park provides valuable wildlife and fish habitat, and will be preserved, protected and enhanced as part of the City’s conservation effort.

This is a great neighborhood spot to park with full amenities just outside of Portland, while having immediate access to 40 wooded acres with walking path and .7 mi to the Springwater Trail for biking/running. 25 mins to downtown Portland; Easy day trips that are ~30 minutes drive to Waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge (Bridal Veil, Multnomah Falls) or under an hour to Mt. Hood for time in the snow!
Fenced in backyard for any of your 4-legged friends to stretch. Gas fire pit, gas grill and patio table + lounge chairs are all open for sharing. Our previous homeowner had a trailer and set up this nice pad with built in hookups. We have grandparents with a 27' RV that come visit a few weekends a year, but we would love to share this corner of the woods with others looking for an accessible home base to access Portland/Mt. Hood/Gorge +.
Note: Our driveway entry is steep, but navigable. We limit the trailer/RV length to 27' in order to avoid bottoming out. Novice trailer drivers may want to avoid.
For quick bearings if you are booking while on the road, we are located just off 26 (Powell), 5 miles from I-205 or 11 miles from I-5 via the Ross Island Bridge. If you are traveling along I-84, we are 4 miles south from the exit.

Very unique property with gracious hosts. The hot tub area is even better in person and worth taking a soak to enjoy the view and relax. We only spent a night there but looking forward to coming back in summer and potentially doing a company retreat.

we had some unfortunate weather for our scheduled trip and so we needed to cut it short. That was the sad part. Melanie is great and her land is wonderful. Really nice to be so close to the river.. We look forward to going back and really getting to enjoy the place next time.

I so enjoyed my time. Emily greeting me and helped me to get situated by asking her husband to help me back my trailer up. They also welcomed my dog and allowed him to be off leash. My dog made friends with everyone. There property is beautiful and Emily encouraged me to roam the garden and the forest as well as enjoying the hot tub. I hot tubed in the early morning looking over the garden. I will definitely go back. Thank you for sharing your magical spot ❣️

Weekend Trip to Ellen's Time Out
What an amazing find. Dave was so accommodating in the space is great, especially if you have dogs. It’s basically his very big backyard completely fenced in. Convenient to Portland, convenient to mount Hood. Made some new friends with a couple who was camping there when we got there. Dave even filled my water tanks before I left.

I loved pulling up to Melanies chicken farm. Upon arriving she showed me where my camp spot was along with the path to the river. She was very kind to my daughter and I. Beautiful and peaceful property. I will most certainly be back!

10 Fold Farm was absolutely lovely! Staying cool amongst the trees and getting to sunbath and fish down at the river was the best of both worlds. Walking amongst the chickens and having Melanie's sweet dogs near by made the trip exquisite! Absolutely would come and again and recommend to friends.

Very nice stopover for the night. Very quiet and plenty of room to sit and relax after a long drive. Lots of shopping close by if needed and not too far from the freeway. Dave is very welcoming and friendly and made sure we were comfortable. Even the squirrels were entertaining.

We loved it here! The dogs are so dang cute, we got to swim in the river under the moonlight, the cows moo all night but we slept just fine. Melanie is so sweet and helpful. Would love to come back someday!

It is a lovely site with a great river to swim in. Melanie was very welcoming and friendly. I did have issues with the neighbor’s dogs so I don’t recommend walking up toward the gate as they are unsupervised and will go through barbed wire fencing. Down by the river and lower farm area was much more peaceful. When Melanie’s farm dog chewed up a few things left on the picnic table overnight, she quickly apologized and offered to replace them. And, when my car died, she was willing to try to jump start it. Altogether a great host and I hope to try again for a less eventful splash in the river.

Melanie has such an amazing property right along a stretch of the Molalla River. We wanted a quick get away to have a quiet night and enjoy the river and that is what we got. Melanie was sweet and accommodating. My teens fell in love with her dogs. Gus visited us during our evening campfire when he was out on patrol and was such a love. The river is just beautiful. We sat out and read our books and had coffee by it in the morning. There is a great little swimming hole for hot days. We will be back.

Emily's place was awesome! This was a first time using Hipcamp for everyone in my group, and I think some of us are not going back to public campgrounds. Emily was great with communication and accommodated our large group. They have very friendly chicken, cat, and dog roaming the property which we all loved. Well, everyone except our dog who was not allowed to roam since she was not used to all the critters at this place. There were so many different critters! Our site was huuuuge, with plenty of space between 5 tents, all away from the picnic tables. From our site, we couldn't see the other campsites. The other campsites looked wonderful. If I get to come back, I'd def try the other sites. The 2 outhouses were easy to get to. The common fire pit was a great location for stargazing. The outdoor shower and amazing hot tub made our trip feel like glamping. We all enjoyed it so much, some of us used it again the next day. This trip was planned for my spouse's birthday, and Emily's place really made it special for him.
