Once a dairy farm and part of the old Simpson estate our property offers mushroom picking seasonally whey you may find Chanterelle & Hedgehog mushrooms. We're close to the beach and the Sunset Bay Golf Course is on the same property. Lots of hiking trails and you can connect with Sunset Bay State Park our neighbor. We have a private, secluded campground that is wind sheltered with approximately 20 acres of space in which to use our covered table, picnic tables, fire pit, fire rings at individual campsites, BBQ, sauna and outdoor propane-fired shower. The camp area is tucked away among large spruce trees and open meadows which lead to endless trails on the property, with the option to buy a round of golf at Sunset Bay Golf Course, which is right next door to the camp area. We’re just short of a mile from Sunset Bay, where you will find kayaking, fishing and a great spot for kids. The Whiskey Run mountain bike trails are a short drive away and are truly world-class trails. The Sunset Bay State Park has a huge trail network that spans the cliff line all the way from Sunset Bay to Cape Arago. Chuck’s Seafood in Charleston is a great spot to pick up local seafood. BBQ some oysters on the grill or pick up some fresh fish and enjoy the bounty of the coast. This is a safe country setting with a few houses on the hill - not out in the boonies in the middle of nowhere. • Equipped with 3 slide-outs for plenty of elbow room. • Sleeps up to 6 (4 included in price). • 2 separate bedrooms - Standard queen in Master / twin and upper bunk in 2nd bedroom. • Bathroom with shower. • Living room with twin size sofa sleeper. • Dining area - table drops down to double bed. • Complete kitchen with full-size refrigerator, stove, oven and microwave. • Outside deck runs the full length of the Hideout - no trailer stairs to go up and down. • Main entrance is a sliding glass door - there is an additional exterior door in the Master bedroom. • Propane BBQ (propane provided). Belly up to the outside table for a great photo op with Boozy Bear (our life-sized wood carving) and take in the wonderful views. At night, cozy up to your campfire and enjoy a night sky perfect for stargazing. If you don't have your own toys and are looking for some fun, four wheelers and sand rails can be rented northbound in Winchester Bay and also southbound at Spinreel Dune Buggy and ATV Rentals (both within 5 miles). For your water sport activities, just 5 minutes away in Lakeside you can find kayak and boat rentals available at Osprey Point and pontoon and fishing boat rentals are available at the Lakeside Marina.

Glenada was incorporated in 1912 and disincorporated in 1922 after the town's sawmills burned. This side of the river was pretty bustling before the Siuslaw bridge was built in 1936, being quite a transformative event considering the ferry from Glenada to Florence was the main way across the river. River View is located up on Glenada mountain, on the upper level of our three-acre lot. We have a free-range farm atmosphere, with 2 children, 2 large dogs, a cat, and 12 chickens. We allow Hip Campers to bring animals on the property with the understanding that they are good around children and other animals, as our kids and pets are often running around the land. We have firewood bundles and farm-fresh eggs available for additional fees. THERE IS NO TOILET on the property. This is not a tent camping site unless you have your own porta-potty set up. This is a beautiful rustic property close enough to Hwy 101 to be convenient but far enough away to enjoy all the wildlife the Siuslaw River has to offer. Bird watching at its finest! Not to mention the view of Old Town! Learn more about this land: River View is located on the upper level of our three-acre lot. We have a free-range farm atmosphere. We have 2 children, 2 large dogs, a cat, and 12 chickens. We have also had a bear that passes through, so beware of leaving food out. There are plenty of places to hike and visit nearby dunes, rivers, lakes, parks, and the ocean. Enjoy Florence's amazing food (ask the host for her favorites). Walk down to Old Town for dinner or bring back take-out and eat it in the tiny house (no electricity or running water). Take a short walk to Pricket state park for clamming or just relax with a book and feel the breeze off the river. Whatever you enjoy, we’re sure you can find something close by! No bathroom or running water but there are 2 electrical plugs (110V and 220V) available.

Your 10 acre campsite is private for you and your guests. So let your pets off the leash, laugh, play music, have fun! There is plenty of flat, open area to maneuver several RVs and place tents. It is open and grassy. Our driveway is quite long to get you into peacefully privacy. Our driveway is part gravel and partly dirt that we grade as needed. RVs, tents, boats, bicycles, horses and pets welcome. We have a small horse corral if requested. We have many unimproved roads to access our creeks, springs, ponds and lake or enjoy the deer paths. Our property has elderberry, blackberry, huckleberry, mulberry, thimbleberry, salmonberry, currants… mushrooms, many wild edible plants and wild life! Siltcoos Lake has 2 boat ramps, 1 restaurant, 1 bar, 1 store, and boat rentals. The restaurant/bar/store (Darlings) will deliver, by boat, to your campsite for $10 !!! $20 minimum as of 2022. Or drive/boat over to Darlings for their well known friendly atmosphere and great food served inside or on their heated deck! Sorry no ATV use on property at this time. For large events some extra arrangements may be possible, just ask. We look forward to sharing our piece of our heaven with you. Then after some geographical changes to the family, they came back up the river starting in the mid-’90s, and this was a great family vacation destination. Even after we moved away after graduating from NBHS, every year, on the beautiful drive to and from the property, my wife and I would marvel at the perfection of the river scene and the many ferns and mosses growing everywhere. So much nicer than the coast most days. No cell service or wifi became a luxury as we worked hard building our dream life. Welcome to Sunset Bay Meadows! We have several tent/RV sites, a yurt, and one group camping site. Once a dairy farm and part of the old Simpson estate our property offers mushroom picking seasonally whey you may find Chanterelle & Hedgehog mushrooms. We're close to the beach and the Sunset Bay Golf Course is on the same property. Lots of hiking trails and you can connect with Sunset Bay State Park our neighbor. We have a private, secluded campground that is wind sheltered with approximately 20 acres of space in which to use our covered table, picnic tables, fire pit, fire rings at individual campsites, BBQ, sauna and outdoor propane-fired shower. The camp area is tucked away among large spruce trees and open meadows which lead to endless trails on the property, with the option to buy a round of golf at Sunset Bay Golf Course, which is right next door to the camp area. We’re just short of a mile from Sunset Bay, where you will find kayaking, fishing and a great spot for kids. The Whiskey Run mountain bike trails are a short drive away and are truly world-class trails. The Sunset Bay State Park has a huge trail network that spans the cliff line all the way from Sunset Bay to Cape Arago. Chuck’s Seafood in Charleston is a great spot to pick up local seafood. BBQ some oysters on the grill or pick up some fresh fish and enjoy the bounty of the coast. Charleston, just 3.5 miles away, also has some great restaurants and local shops to truly make your stay memorable. Only friendly dogs allowed and leashed or under voice command.

Alder Grove

We have five acres at the end of a quiet street with the only traffic going to our neighbors. Our campsite is mostly shaded with large Fir and Cedar trees on one side and a Red Alder grove on the other side. Mid afternoon sun. Picnic table under a covered enclosure with lights and an electrical outlet. Site has 30 amp power and water hook ups. Local activities include sand dunes, fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, kayaking, biking, surfing. We are close to the town of Lakeside with restaurants, taverns, grocery store and gas station.

River View

Glenada was incorporated in 1912 and disincorporated in 1922 after the town's sawmills burned. This side of the river was pretty bustling before the Siuslaw bridge was built in 1936, being quite a transformative event considering the ferry from Glenada to Florence was the main way across the river. River View is located up on Glenada mountain, on the upper level of our three-acre lot. We have a free-range farm atmosphere, with 2 children, 2 large dogs, a cat, and 12 chickens. We allow Hip Campers to bring animals on the property with the understanding that they are good around children and other animals, as our kids and pets are often running around the land. We have firewood bundles and farm-fresh eggs available for additional fees. THERE IS NO TOILET on the property. This is not a tent camping site unless you have your own porta-potty set up. This is a beautiful rustic property close enough to Hwy 101 to be convenient but far enough away to enjoy all the wildlife the Siuslaw River has to offer. Bird watching at its finest! Not to mention the view of Old Town! Learn more about this land: River View is located on the upper level of our three-acre lot. We have a free-range farm atmosphere. This little slice of rugged heaven is just above the Siuslaw River and right off of Hwy 101. There is a steep gravel driveway but once at the top, it is flat and the view is pretty amazing. From camp, you can see Old Town. Gaze down at the Siuslaw River and all the wildlife that comes with it! We regularly see deer, red tail hawks, ospreys, and bald eagles. We have also had a bear that passes through, so beware of leaving food out. There are plenty of places to hike and visit nearby dunes, rivers, lakes, parks, and the ocean. Enjoy Florence's amazing food (ask the host for her favorites). Walk down to Old Town for dinner or bring back take-out and eat it in the tiny house (no electricity or running water). Take a short walk to Pricket state park for clamming or just relax with a book and feel the breeze off the river. Whatever you enjoy, we’re sure you can find something close by! No bathroom or running water but there are 2 electrical plugs (110V and 220V) available.

Mountainous camping near Winchester Bay guide

Overview

Situated where the Umpqua River meets the Pacific Ocean, Winchester Bay is a convenient starting point for exploring Oregon's southern coastline or experiencing the popular Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Here you'll find a solid selection of restaurants, most specializing in fresh seafood, plus a handful of boutiques and markets for picking up supplies and souvenirs. You can even rent an ATV (or get yours repaired or serviced) right in the heart of town. The beach here is also popular for crabbing and clamming, and Lake Marie, inside the Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, is just a short jaunt south of the town center.

Oregon's Central Coast

Up the coast from Winchester Bay, the Central Coast offers a mix of cozy beach towns and rugged expanses, with plenty of room to camp, both in state parks and on private land. The region also has plenty of attractions, including the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.

Oregon's South Coast

Winchester Bay is right on the South Coast, arguably the prettiest part of an already gorgeous coastline. It's also home to the sweeping sand dunes at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area close by.

Umpqua National Forest

Inland from Winchester Bay, the Umpqua National Forest features gorgeous old-growth forest land, beautiful lakes (including Crater Lake), and numerous waterfalls. It's also a great place to camp, with a variety of options ranging from primitive sites to well-developed campgrounds.

When to go

Winchester Bay and the surrounding region is best visited in summer, as July and August tend to get the warmest temperatures without much rain. September and June are also good bets, though be prepared for light showers. There are two whale-watching seasons on the Oregon coast: one in mid-December through mid-January and a second that runs from the end of March through May.
