Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods. Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall. Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake. Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you. The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary. The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge. Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. When I closed my Glamping Business in Big Sur, CA, in 2016 I was looking for a new place to call home and the universe told me to check out Southern Oregon. Being German, I fell in love with the Applegate Valley because it reminds me of the German Alp Region of Algovia ("Allgaeu"). We are a tiny community here on my 7 acres of land including a couple of sweet dogs. My favorite spot ever since I discovered this property has been the barn and I have finished renovating it during Covid Lockdown. I am looking forward to hosting people who love nature and the quiet, who would like to unplug from the urban bustle and who have a passion for design and unconventional living spaces. Only minutes drive from restaurants, Canytrall Buckley Park with River Access, The Applegate Lake (Swimming, Paddleboarding), Hiking Trails, Wineries, a small supermarket and a famous paragliding spot. Come park your camper van or trailer on my 7 acre property. I am an Interior Designer and have converted the former mule Barn into an Outdoor Summer Living Space with dining room, living room, kitchen and patio. Attached to the barn are an outdoor shower with hot water as well as a composting toilet. Al Fresco Dining, Showers in the Sunset and occasional outdoor movie nights are waiting for you here on the Hill in the beautiful Applegate Valley. If you play the guitar, feel free to bring it along, we have had fun times with small gatherings in the evenings on the patio. Please note: I live here and so you will see me around daily, usually I tend the gardens or you can find me around the barn. However, I will respect your privacy! The dogs who live on the property are usually free roaming and they will for sure come visit you, they are all friendly. I am emphasizing this, because if you are scared of dogs, are not used to dogs or do not like dogs, my place (unfortunately) might not be the right spot for you :-(.

Camp right on the Applegate river with us and enjoy the song of water on the rocks! Relax into the end-of-the-road privacy while still being 10 min to Grants Pass and 5 min to the nearest convenience store. We have 5 acres of grass and conifers, with madrone and oak and big leaf maple throughout. There are alders and cottonwood by the water. The main house is at the top of the property. We have several fire pits and places to camp in tents, hammocks, or RVs. We have delicious well water and fire wood stocked. We are a large family of colorful people and animals living a little up river from the merge with the Rogue River. We are open to animal guests, but there are free range chickens and cats, as well as small children on the property.

Hideouts HipCamp Review I loved this place! Partly the location and partly the very nice people there. About the location: it's not for everyone,; it is a bit of a drive including 5 miles on a scrabble road that is fine. But you get out and away from everyone and into a beautiful spot with a great view. It’s also rather rustic that I like that soon they will have a bath house and it’ll be different. There’s an example of how they were nice to me: I am 72 years old and have some mobility issues. they were very cognizant of it and helped me get around a little bit. That was very sweet. I would come back every year if I could.

Camping on Daniel’s land was simple and peaceful! He gave great, easy to follow directions to get to the site and it was just as described! The site was well maintained, had a picnic table, and was in a very peaceful, quiet location! Definitely recommend for those not needing anything special and a quick spot to camp at within close proximity to Crater Lake National Park! Daniel was also very responsive and available for questions :)

Beautiful scenery! Very close to downtown Ashland and all the shopping and restaurants. The airstream was whimsical and we loved all the details.

Walk along this path and hear the eeps of the frogs jumping with each step.. The perfect spot to view wildlife in Woodlands and Turtle Pond.

We booked the RV site at Turtle Pond. Had no trouble finding it with the detailed instructions. We were however surprised at how close all the sites were to one another and that the porta potty was shared. While we hoped for more seclusion we still enjoyed the space and appreciated that the gravel parking pad was level resulting in a good night's sleep.

Beautiful spot! We reserved both Turtle Pond and Deer Ridge with some family. The spots were lovely & very quiet. Fantastic place and would definitely stay here again!

Deer Ridge tent camping. Choose your spot and enjoy the beautiful starlit sky, the woodlands, the trees, the trails, and the campfire pit (when the fire danger isn't high). Park in designated space just outside the site.

I've had the best time staying on this beautiful mountain with these wonderful people. There is absolutely nothing like waking up to mountain sunrises, and taking a dip in the cool creek after hiking on a hot day. This place is very special, and it's not just due to the breathtaking views. It's also because of the people there whose goal is to make it feel like both home and a new adventure all at once. I look forward to many many more trips back!

The campsite itself gave stunning views of the night sky (we spotted the Milky Way and a shooting star!) We wished we had stayed longer so that we had more time to explore the area! This spot is definitely a hidden gem! From incredible star-gazing to a beautiful sunrise, this spot is perfect for the view-seekers. Kat and her partner were such gracious hosts, thinking of the little things to help make us comfortable. They made themselves available if we needed anything throughout our stay as well. They have a little piece of heaven tucked away in the mountains of southern Oregon and they’re dedicated to making it as special as possible! Getting to the Hipcamp is a little tricky even with detailed instructions so definitely give yourself time to get there as they are still working to perfect the off-grid navigation.

It is very simple and quiet and the views are breathtaking. It is not an improved campsite, so if you’re looking for luxury, this isn’t for you. If you are looking for a secluded getaway that is free from the hustle and bustle and let your dogs off leash with you and you love dry camping and don’t like neighbors, This is the place for you. We absolutely loved it, We will definitely be back.

Tent camping here was surreal. My fiancé, mother and I stayed here just for the night while on our way to California from Washington and it was lovely. Rebecca was very kind and gave perfect directions for anyone who would struggle getting to the property. They even had lights hung up in the camp sites which gave the whole place an amazing vibe.

Gravel/ dirt road for about 30 minutes of the 45 minute drive off the highway to get to the property, would not recommend 2WD like I had but I still made it and man was that view worth it! Fantastic hosts and property!! They’re putting a lot of work in to cleaning up the land to eventually become a campground but even as is I would go back time and time again.
