Weekend Trip to Walnut Falls Escape

Sugar shack was well placed (next to a small creek with a mini waterfall... Wouldn't be surprised if the water flow is 14 gallons per minute for the waterfall)... There are trails to walk on, which is a positive.

We had such a great stay at this peaceful off-grid cabin in the woods. It was quiet, relaxing, and the perfect place to unplug. Our dog loved roaming around and exploring—definitely pet-friendly! Craig was a fantastic host and made sure we had all the info we needed before arrival. Just a heads-up: bring bug spray! We’re already planning our next trip back.

Even with the best of lodging, I feel like there's always that one thing that could've made it better- "it was a wonderful cabin EXCEPT FOR..." But honestly, our time at Fruitdale Farms was perfect across the board. The space is gorgeous with so many lovely little things to see (bee hives, inoculated mushrooms logs, trails, a nice little pond with koi). And the Little Fern Cabin was so very perfect and cute. We both thought the bed was amazingly comfortable and were charmed by all the care put into the decor. The gazebo kitchen was one of the best kitchen spaces we've used - so well-stocked with everything you could possibly need in the way of spices, utensils, cookware, etc - any time we thought of something we'd forgotten to bring, it was already there. We also loved that the kitchen was its own space in a revamped aviary. There was easy access to firewood and some tomato and berry plants for sale. We loved our time at the sauna. The printouts they leave for guests detailing places nearby to visit were so helpful - we wouldn't have known about the floating bridge/beaver dam trail if not for that (since it's not officially open and they're still working on the adjacent trail), and it was phenomenal. We also enjoyed the visits of the charming farm-cat Tangie who spent time with us in the mornings and evenings and was the sweetest little love-bug. Thank you again, Aimee, for all the love and care you put into your place. We very much look forward to coming again.

this farm has been on my Hipcamp wishlist for a while now. finally, everything lined up to get to sneak away for a parts of three days to celebrate our nine year anniversary. off-grid and disconnected enough to have some peace, but just enough cell signal to handle life as needs arise. everything is beautiful + well thought out. the other cabin and camp sites looked adorable. but I’m very grateful we got to experience sugar shack. it was nestled back in the woods with plenty of privacy. the trails are well marked. and everywhere you look are little pockets of love + intention from Aimee’s hands. you can tell how well she loves the land here. the woods are rich with life. fungi, wildflowers, 17 year cicadas, her chickens, cats, and fish. the sauna was a real treat. the pond was fun to play in, some of the fish even let me pet them. I went to the sauna and alternated from sauna to shower, as it instructed, and felt a deep sense of peace. the walk back to the cabin was perfect. the cabin itself has everything basic you’ll need for coziness and meals and lighting. it’s so charming. every aspect of life there became so dear, however brief. if I have one singular thing that could be improved, it’s the shower attached to the host residence. my husband is horribly afraid of spiders. and the biggest wolf (?) spider stared him down in there preventing his time there to be as magical as mine. bugs and spiders are expected. but may be good to keep up on. see you next year!

Such a great little spot. Between the creek, trails, ax throwing, archery and wild seclusion there is really something for everyone. Plenty of space for tents if glamping isn't your thing, however the yurt was perfect for our small group. The only trouble we had was with the cooking situation. The description explains any and all equipment is provided but found only plates and some utensils when we checked, these certainly came in handy but we had to improvise a little. 10/10 will book again

Second time at the Creekside Cottage. Everything was perfect- the Cottage is adorable and stocked with anything you may have forgot- you instantly feel right at home. The direct access to the little creek right outside the cottage was amazing. Honestly, the whole property feels like you've been transported somewhere magical.

Weekend Trip to Near/Far Cabin and Campground

This is my second time staying at this cabin with friends and easily my favorite :) It has everything you need from a grill, coffee machine, yoga mat, to an outdoor shower. I love all the personal touches in the cabin too and was pleasantly surprised with a little vase + plant on the table :) you can tell they put a lot into this cabin and love it very much! Will continue visiting in the near future.

Weekend Trip to Lazy Ferret Glamping

This property is a magical sanctuary — like stepping out of time into another dimension. We stayed in the cottage, nestled right by the creek, and it was peaceful and truly restorative. It's absolutely gorgeous out there - perfectly peaceful and enough to do at camp to keep busy. David was an amazing host - always had fresh coffee for us and a morning chat. Our stay at Fruitdale farm was idyllic! Such a great getaway from life. Aimee had super clear instructions that made check in and departure a breeze. Walking around her land and exploring her recommended local trails felt like a sanctuary. The A-frame offered a wonderful in-between for people like me who aren't ready to fully commit to camping in a tent. I still got the outdoorsy experience of a latrine, no electricity, and no running water, but after a day of hiking, nothing felt better than to lay on the super comfortable bed. PS would highly recommend the Cedar Run Trailhead with the Highlands Nature Sanctuary. It was a relaxing hike, with so much beautiful moss, greenery, and a breath-taking waterfall.

Come stay at our little sustainable farmstead amid the beautiful rolling hills of southern Ohio! Our peaceful 20 acres has a good mix of woods, wild meadows and maintained cleared areas as well as a small pond, all of which can be explored via our nature trail. Enjoy the sounds of nature and an incredible night sky. Farm fresh eggs and fresh produce are available for purchase during the growing season and firewood is available all year round. There is also a wonderful sauna on the property that can be reserved. Great hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, swimming, and disc-golfing opportunities just a few miles away at Paint Creek State Park and the Highland Nature Sanctuary. Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets (not flushing). The Viking Longhall

The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Near/Far Cabin and Campground

Immerse yourself in nature alongside a working farm! Our 15 acre property has many features. Enjoy hiking trails, a small 3 season creek, rock walls and large boulders, trickling waterfalls and caves if you're feeling adventurous. (The cave is currently an off trail experience, is only accessible at certain times of the year and requires steep hiking and some climbing large rocks.) An abundance of wildflowers and native flowering trees grow amongst the beautiful rolling hills of forest. In spring the wildflowers paint the landscape, in the summer the fireflies compete with the stars in a sparkling symphony and in the Fall colors fill the trees. You will experience true darkness, bright stars and the simplicity of being out in the country. We are a small homestead raising much of our own food. It's likely you will be greeted by dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, pigs and a cow. The property is adjacent to hunting club land, which means hundreds of acres of undeveloped, wooded and wild. Wildlife is abundant, including coyote, fox, bobcat, turkey, raccoon, hawk, owl, (reportedly) bear and lots of deer. Most are nocturnal, so you may hear them rather than see them, but they are near. Our livestock guardian dog keeps the pasture occupants safe, but that means nighttime barking. We provide noise machines in the cabin for white noise and you are welcome to bring a small fan. We live in a rural neighborhood, so there will be occasional sounds from other dwellings, there is a dog rescue across the street and although infrequent, you might hear ATV's and gun shots from down the road. There are copperheads snakes in the area as well as black widow and brown recluse spiders. You will not likely see them but it is wise to wear boots and stay on the trails. The cabin and campground currently share a composting toilet/outhouse with a space for hanging a shower bag (you must bring your own shower bag). There are 5 gallon jugs of water for filling shower bag, hand washing station and dish washing. There is a Berkey water filter in the cabin, but campers will need to bring their own drinking water. Please be aware that you may have minimal cell service during your stay and there is no wifi. The best place to get a good cell signal is the parking lot. The town of Amesville is filled with personality and is just 7 miles away. With a convenience store, park and a wonderful restaurant, Parks Place, which serves American fare cooked with a chefs flare and local ingredients. There is also a community studio that offers yoga and other fitness classes. Amesville hosts Coonskin Saturdays from May to October with music, food, classes and more on the Third Saturday of each month. The city of Athens is 20 miles away, with many restaurants and shops, ample grocery stores, movie theaters etc, as well as the beautiful campus of Ohio University. Strouds Run State Park and several Nature Preserves are within 15 miles of us, Baileys Bike Trail System is 20 miles away, Burr Oak is 25 miles away, and Hocking Hills State Park is 50 miles away. It is a spectacular area with so much to offer in the way of hiking and other nature related activities.
