Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets (not flushing). A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN (with the exception of site #1). ***Please take note that this is private property and the host lives on site. If you are looking for a place to be loud and party into the night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to spend some quality time in nature, welcome. There are rules.

The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Weekend Trip to Fruitdale Farm

I love Fruitdale Farm. The Cattail Cabin was just what we needed for a quick (rainy) weekend trip. We stayed warm and dry and spent a lot of time sitting on the porch watching the red-winged blackbird fledglings in the cattails and their parents coming and going. We fell asleep to the sound of peepers and awoke to the chatter of birds.

After studying Norse Mythology, my 4th graders had a culminating overnight at this Viking Longhall. It was exactly the experience I was hoping for! David was very accommodating and hospitable. They loved the archery, creek swing, fire pit and the ambiance of the longhouse and yurt!

This cozy a-frame cabin has a full-sized bed with a comfy memory foam mattress. Clean bedding provided.

We were a group of moms on a long weekend getaway, and Fruitdale Farm couldn’t have been a better choice. This cabin is so full of sunlight and cheer. It’s well-appointed with the things you’ll need, and the private deck overlooking the pond is such a peaceful place to relax and connect. We enjoyed wandering on the trails on the farm and hiking on nearby Arc of Appalachia trails.

Such an amazing place! Fruitdale Farm is worth your trip. Friends and I stayed in the Cattail and Sugar Shack cabins. Everything was exactly as advertised, and the land was beautiful. We enjoyed exploring the trails, soaking up the sun by the pond, and feeling cozy in our cabins at night. We hiked on Arc of Appalachia trails within a 15 minute drive - what a treat! I would definitely recommend Aimee's place to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in the woods.

We had a great stay overall. The Viking long hall was definitely a standout—such a unique and memorable feature that really sets this place apart. David and Iveagh were very kind and welcoming, and made it clear they were available if we needed anything. As experienced campers we didn’t need much assistance, but it was appreciated knowing they were there. The available hot shower and water were a great accommodation and definitely added to the comfort of the stay. The campsites are not on top of each other, but they aren’t very dispersed either. If you’re looking for a more private, spread-out experience, this may not be the best fit. Regardless, we felt nothing but welcome and accommodated. Overall, a really cool spot with a lot of character. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others looking for something a little different.

It was so wonderful to have a tiny A-frame all to myself: I felt like a kid in my very own playhouse! I didn't use the hammock, but it was great that one existed. Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

The cottage was beautiful and cozy and we loved the soft bedding and fluffy blankets on chilly nights. They provided a propane heater and had prepped a fire for us to light. The creek was clear and provided a serene soundscape. David was kind and helpful. He checked in with us to be sure we had everything needed, brought got coffee every morning, and gave us great advice on local hiking spots.

This was a great place to camp with our six and a half year old! We can’t normally get him to hike very far but there were so many fun swings and slides along the way that he was really engaged and ended up doing almost 4miles with us! The new patio on the hickory tree house was a perfect family gathering spot for uno and charades. Our best family vacation yet. Be sure to pack some easy on/off shoes with good tread! It can be a little slick between the cabin and outhouse - crocs won’t cut it if it’s wet out.

Weekend Trip to River Refuge Retreat

The driveway definitely added to the adventure—my little Toyota handled it just fine! We saw deer and turkeys and enjoyed a beautiful view the whole time. The cabin was clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a perfect, relaxing weekend getaway. The hosts were very accommodating with our late-night check-in and responded quickly to any questions. It was just a short walk to the pond, where our little Yorkie had a blast swimming—and even helped us catch a few fish, including a bass! Highly recommend this spot—we’ll definitely be back.
