We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). This is a primitive site with no amenities, just a lovely meadow. We make an effort to keep it mowed but there are times in the year the grass gets out of hand, please be aware. Ticks and chiggers can be present depending on the season, so be advised. The campsite is in an open meadow on our 5 acre property, next to the ruins of what was one of the oldest barns in the county (there are still some beautiful stone walls left). You will be surrounded by trees and the spot is completely private. Directly across the road from our property (a 5 minute walk) is the Little Miami Scenic Trail, the third longest paved trail in the US (amazing for biking). The unique village of Yellow Springs is only a 5 minute drive away with a great local grocery store and several cafes. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE BOOKING. Notes: 1) (no RVs or trailers) cars need to park at the entrance of the meadow where there is gravel. Campers got stuck in the meadow due to rain/mud (which is why we do not allow RVs or trailers). 2) If you need to go number 2 please dig a cat hole at least 6" deep. There is an open public toilet in Yellow Springs and several businesses with open bathrooms. 3) The campsite is right off of Route 68. You cannot see cars from the site but you can hear them. The amount of noise from cars is lower at night. 4) The meadow is ideal for tent camping, though it is NOT a built campsite so it is on a somewhat steep slant at spots.

Great location as Columbus is 30 min to the east, Dayton is 25 min to the west. 13 min to I 675 and 20 min to Interstate 75 N/S. I 71 N/S Columbus is 35 min away in downtown Columbus... NOTE: Little over a quarter of a mile off of Interstate 70, and on a State Route, If looking for absolute silence and desolation, this is not for you. Back off of the road but all the sounds carry.....

Southern Ohio offers some amazing roads for motorcycle rides, including the Hocking Hills Scenic Byway, The Windy 9, The Triple Nickel and Three Rivers . Please message me on the morning of your stay with an ETA so I can make sure I'm here to great you. RVers if you are coming in from US Rte 33 please use Buena Vista Rd. Buena Vista Rd is one exit after Oppossum Hollow if you are heading East on 33 and also one exit pass 374 if you are heading West on 33. GPS will usually route you onto Oppossum Hollow Rd or State Rte 374. The State Rte 374 route will have you turn onto Oppossum Hollow. Oppossum Hollow road is a one lane unlined rd and is not the best for RVs. Taking Buena Vista Rd will only add about a mile and a few minutes to your trip. Be advised Buena Vista is a very curvey road but is traveled by large vehicles all the time. Just take it slow and you will be fine. We have a dully truck and 45 ft rig that we bring in and out just fine. If you are coming in from the South (Chillicothe area.) From State Rte 180, please take Jack Run Rd. This is also a paved two lane road. All other roads in the area are single lane rds and are not the best for RVs (don't use Middlefork, Long Run, Stump Run, or Clapper Hollow off of State Rte 180). Learn more about this land: I'm an artist and my husband and I have a small homestead with chickens and sometimes sheep/goats. Look out for electric netting to keep our herd/flock protected. The lighting over our back field is divine in the late afternoon, or if you prefer a wooded setting, we have a small wooded area across the street from our house. The area is hilly and rather private-- only one neighbor is visible when the trees are leafed out. Electric is accessible from an outlet at the backyard fence or in the barn. We often have fresh veggies and fruit in the garden in the summer, and sometimes extra farm fresh eggs. Nearby (10 minute drive) is Hargus lake, with boat rental and fishing. Also nearby is the Slate Run Historical Farm, (15 minute drive) which is a farm that is fully functioning as a farm from the 1880's with sheep, draft horses, hogs, and poultry at Slate Run Metro park, which has many woodland and wetland trails, as well as a covered bridge and several playgrounds. We are about 35 minutes from the Hocking Hills area, which is one of the most beautiful and unique areas in Ohio.

Weekend Trip to The Lake at the Flying J Farm

I've stayed at Flying J now 5+ times, and have stayed at sites 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The only one I wouldn't choose again is 3, as it's the site right in the open by the boat dock (as Richard clearly describes in the site profile). Site 1, 5, and 6 are all great sites in the woods. 1 and 5 have nice lake views, and 6 is up on a little bluff with farther views of the lake through the trees. Site 4 is the one you cannot drive to as it's across a small earthen dam. It's got more of an open view of the lake than sites 1, 5, and 6. Again, all the sites are great and Richard is an awesome host!

I had a lot of fun on this trip! The dome was nice and comfy even though there were a bit of ladybugs inside seeking warmth I assume. I didn’t mind either way because being in nature comes with the bugs. speaking of warmth, the heater kept us warm throughout the night even overheating us at points until we realized there was a temperature set on it. I’m very glad that accommodation was there for the cold. I do suggest getting there before it starts getting dark so you can get a fire going for light when nighttime comes. Even though the bathroom is a bit of walk (as expected with camping), it was a very nice bathroom and well kept. Definitely bring some flashlights or have your phone with you for light because there isn’t too much lighting provided outside except for some lamps and ground lights here and there along the trail to the dome. The area around the dome and the dome itself felt very private and secluded so it really made you feel immersed in nature. I saw some reviews saying all they heard were cars because it is next to a road, but the dome is up in the hills so there were barely cars driving by and I didn’t notice them. I also saw reviews saying the dome in right next to the owners home and it didn’t feel private. Even though I saw the home in the distance, They have fences built around the dome to ensure campers’ privacy. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and suggest it for anyone looking for a getaway. One night was a relief from our unnaturally busy lives!

The stay was well accommodated and the dome tent was such a fresh and easy way to camp. Even though it rained, we stayed dry and the next day was lovely enough to enjoy some of the great natural hikes in the area.

We booked the Bison Tipi Retreat for a last minute, late season trip to Nether’s Flint Quarry and I am so glad we did! The property is beautiful and unique to most stays one may find. We really enjoyed watching the bison eat by the light of the moon and hearing the creek that is nearby. The kitchen supplies were adequate for cooking our meals. The tipi was roomy. The camp toilet was clean and had no smell. We are already talking about a trip here next year! This was a great break from the hustle of everyday life.

I had a late arrival and they were very accommodating and was quick to respond to messages to help me locate the driveway due to the darkness. The Sunny Rest Skyview was nice and spacious. Jim was a great host! He offered free firewood, and even brough more the second day. We didn't wander around the property too much, but it was nice and peaceful. The dogs came to visit and were very friendly :D During the day we could hear the traffic on route 33, but in the evening it died down and got pretty quiet. This campsite is right on the access road, so everyone else in-and-out passed right by us, but it wasn't a big deal. All in it was a great experience and I definitely recommend!
