Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a magical place to reconnect with nature but still sleep in a bed. The creekside cabin was very clean and cozy! David and Ivea were incredibly kind and accommodating. The place is clean, artistically beautiful, and honestly just felt magical.

Fantastic asthetics. Beautifully done and maintained. Hosts were very hospitable and knowledgable of the area. The yurt was very comfy and inviting. First time in a yurt and it was a blast. Hosts went above and beyond by providing a battery unit for my CPAP machine.

This cozy a-frame cabin has a full-sized bed with a comfy memory foam mattress. Clean bedding provided.

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

We had a fantastic time staying in the Creekside cottage. Falling asleep to the sound of the creek next to us was extremely peaceful, and the cottage was very thoughtfully decorated and equipped! There was a grill available, though we had fun cooking over the open fire. David was a friendly and attentive host, and we really enjoyed hearing about the history of the property! We can’t wait to return!

The amenities, the land, and the host are nothing short of amazing. We wanted for absolutely nothing on our stay and our children had the best time and loved David. None of us were ready to leave- but we will certainly be returning.

2 nights at Handyland

Our host, Josh Handy, was terrific. The location is a renovated pop up camper which he fashioned with wood from his grandfather’s 200 year old barn when it was torn down. It has an open barn about 30 yards away with very nice restroom facilities, H/C shower and an outdoor kitchen. The land itself comprises part of a farm with both open meadow and wooded trails. Perfect for travelers and dogs. Highly recommended!

Cute rustic cabin in the woods. A short walk to the parking area we carried our supplies through the stone path. Comfortable beds and AC!! Was great for a family camp out. The maintenance guy made sure we had everything we needed. He delivered firewood and fishing poles to us! Highly recommend!!

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

Another excellent stay at the longhall! There was some rain throughout the weekend, and the longhall was dry and comfortable through the rain and storms. When the rain broke and the sun came out we were able to fully enjoy the natural beauty of the property. This weekend was a fun and relaxing break from everything. We are looking forward to visiting again!

My experience was so welcome and needed! The perfect place to unplug and regroup after many days on the road. I highly recommend this place and will be returning as often as I can! Sugar shack was well placed (next to a small creek with a mini waterfall... Wouldn't be surprised if the water flow is 14 gallons per minute for the waterfall)... There are trails to walk on, which is a positive.

Weekend Trip to Three Springs Campground RV Park

We needed a place to stay last minute while attending a music festival in Lexington, but with no hotels available, we decided to camp instead. Stumbling upon Three Springs Campground in Sadieville (which happens to be my daughter's name-it was fate, we had to stay!) It turned out to be an unexpected highlight of our trip. The campground offers primitive tent camping for $50 a night, but for just $10 more, they have rustic cabins that were the perfect blend of comfort and simplicity. The cabin had heat, air conditioning, electricity, a microwave, a Keurig coffee maker, and plates, making it incredibly convenient. There was outside seating and a fire pit. While there was no bathroom inside the cabin, the bathhouse was just 75-100 feet away, and there was Wi-Fi and no TV. After the festival, we built a fire and spent most of the night simply enjoying each other’s company—me, my husband, and our daughter, Sadie. It was the perfect way to wind down, surrounded by nature and the peaceful atmosphere of the campground. Whether you’re looking for secluded, rustic tent camping or a budget-friendly cabin stay, Three Springs Campground is a great option near Lexington. Highly recommend for anyone attending an event nearby or just wanting a tranquil getaway!

Weekend Trip to Three Springs Campground RV Park

A cute, super clean campground. And we loved the shower heads!! Every corner of the cabin, bathrooms and showers were clean of cobwebs! I am glad to see they are investing in fixing some of the campsites. It was very easy to find, just off the highway but far enough back to be super quiet. We will stop again when visiting family in Lexington.

Weekend Trip to Fruitdale Farm

Even with the best of lodging, I feel like there's always that one thing that could've made it better- "it was a wonderful cabin EXCEPT FOR..." But honestly, our time at Fruitdale Farms was perfect across the board. The space is gorgeous with so many lovely little things to see (bee hives, inoculated mushrooms logs, trails, a nice little pond with koi). And the Little Fern Cabin was so very perfect and cute. We both thought the bed was amazingly comfortable and were charmed by all the care put into the decor. The gazebo kitchen was one of the best kitchen spaces we've used - so well-stocked with everything you could possibly need in the way of spices, utensils, cookware, etc - any time we thought of something we'd forgotten to bring, it was already there. We also loved that the kitchen was its own space in a revamped aviary. There was easy access to firewood and some tomato and berry plants for sale. We loved our time at the sauna. The printouts they leave for guests detailing places nearby to visit were so helpful - we wouldn't have known about the floating bridge/beaver dam trail if not for that (since it's not officially open and they're still working on the adjacent trail), and it was phenomenal. We also enjoyed the visits of the charming farm-cat Tangie who spent time with us in the mornings and evenings and was the sweetest little love-bug. Thank you again, Aimee, for all the love and care you put into your place. We very much look forward to coming again.

The Viking long hall is magical! This was our 3rd year & we will keep coming back every year. David is an amazing host & human being. We absolutely appreciate all he does to make our stay as wonderful as possible.

Nice storage container house. Had everything you would need. Shower was fantastic. We hiked to the creek and explored. We fished in the small pond for some small fish. The games around the storage containers were fun for kids. Great place to visit.

Come stay at our little sustainable farmstead amid the beautiful rolling hills of southern Ohio! Our peaceful 20 acres has a good mix of woods, wild meadows and maintained cleared areas as well as a small pond, all of which can be explored via our nature trail. Enjoy the sounds of nature and an incredible night sky. Farm fresh eggs and fresh produce are available for purchase during the growing season and firewood is available all year round. There is also a wonderful sauna on the property that can be reserved. Great hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, swimming, and disc-golfing opportunities just a few miles away at Paint Creek State Park and the Highland Nature Sanctuary. Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets (not flushing). A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN (with the exception of site #1). ***Please take note that this is private property and the host lives on site. If you are looking for a place to be loud and party into the night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to spend some quality time in nature, welcome. There are rules.

The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Learn more about this land: Come relax atop the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio. Enveloped in the heart of Tranquility Wilderness Area, our 11 acres has a mix of native pawpaw, peach, pear, and persimmon trees, deciduous forest, cedar woods, wild meadows, a small swimming pond, and a large, accessible field for ample flat for tents and room to play. Trails through the woods are being worked on, and facilities expanded as the seasons pass. Mellow nature’s soundtrack of birds, crickets, and frogs and enjoy an incredibly clear view of the night sky. Hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, hunting, swimming, and more are available at several state parks and historical sites like within 10-30 minutes of the farm. Amish country is likewise near at hand with several bakeries, markets, furniture shops, and greenhouses. Our primitive sites are spaced for privacy, with a gravel parking area near the cottage and additional field parking is available near the road on the opposite site of the main house. While most sites are walk-in only, the upper field sites may be able to be parked near and the Lower Meadow, Boneyard, and Oak Grove may be able to be driven to, as weather and site conditions permit.

Magical A- Frame In The Woods

Down a private drive, tucked back in the woods, this A frame sits on 3 acres. In the warmer months, the home is far more secluded. In the winter months, neighbors homes are visible through the brush, but we just planted 28 7ft trees to help with this. The property features 2 acres of fenced in property, which is perfect for all size dogs. Hot tub and sauna on large wrap around deck, plus two propane heaters. Top floor features main king size bedroom with large deck. 2 couches and one giant bean bag chair, plus 2 TVs with PS5. 2 king size bedrooms on the main level. All 3 king bedrooms feature black out curtains. A queen "bedroom" in the downstairs next to the bar, pool table, and full gym. Aerial silks on top floor and main level. Two hammocks-- one by the grill and the other tucked in the woods. They are the wonderful cocoon type that you can easily fall asleep in. Beautiful trails weave through the fenced in property. Giant firepit area with plenty of space to pitch tents if some of the group would like to enjoy being outside. Bulb lights spaced around the property. Lots of wildlife that comes to visit, including multiple generations of deer who have been having and raising their young on our property for years. (There is NO hunting on our property) Property backs up to 50 acres of designated Green Space with a small creek that runs through it.

We recently moved from the next county over and are enjoying making this place ours and improvements for guests. Property is 15 minutes south of Cincinnati, close to the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), close to restaurants and attractions such as Kings Island (approximately 1 hour), Creation Museum (approximately 25 minutes) and The Ark (approximately 25 minutes). Also nearby are several state parks and local favorites such as Big Bone State park, Rabbit Hash,and Riverbend. We have 2 dogs who walk with us on leash and recently added chickens and goats! Elmer and Clyde do like to wander and explore. They are very friendly. Learn more about this land: Gravel driveway leads up to both spots. We do try to keep it maintained, but frequently rain causes ruts faster than we can fill. It should not impede drivability, but use caution and feel free to ask if you have any concerns. #1 improvement planned is paving driveway. You may also experience some vehicle noise from roadway. Typically, as we are on a back road, it is fairly quiet but some drivers may be louder than others and some evenings see more traffic. Level gravel area for RV parking, second plateau available for multiple tent sites. Campfires in designated area. Deer, wild turkeys, opossums and raccoons are plentiful and often wander through. Less common are foxes and bald eagles that make their home at Doe Run Lake nearby. Main home on property but only close enough for assistance, not interference. Homesteading in progress with many improvements being added. Property is close to Creation Museum and the Ark. 10 minutes from restaurants and expressway but feels like a retreat. Wi-fi, trash, private area for camp toilet, fire ring, water, camp stove (available in extras). Optional tent and chair rentals.
