Kids can enjoy swings and slides. We used it for a small gathering where about a dozen guests gathered during the day and six spent the night. Could not have been happier with property or hosts. Fireworks are legal and permitted within reasonable hours. Horses are welcome.

YO can fish in the ponds it has blue gills and catfish. I also added grass carp there as part of weed management. This used to be an abandoned farm which I want to bring back to life. The site offers three luxury large Safari Style Tents and 4 Pioneer wagons. All tents are far away from each other to provide privacy and freedom of going Wild (still remaining civilized in your manners and careful attitude to Nature around you). Tent 1 is in the Forrest itself and it is pretty cook and serene. Tent 2 is on the top of a rocky hill overlooking the forest. Tent 3 is the most remote and closest to the ponds. It has most of the open space around it, and can be a great place for parties. We are working on making the sites and the area more comfortable, but I do not want to make it a manicured park. I want it to remain wild and still offer comfortable stay. The farm is work in progress. Eventually it will be an Ostrich farm. and have other animals too. The closest town - Lenoir is about 12 miles away . Closest Grocery store (Dollar General) - about 3 miles away. Closest Gas station - 2 miles away. Professional Tennis court, Basketball court and large kids playground are in a public park within - 5 minute drive. Lenoir has restaurants, shopping, etc. Hickory is a larger town about 25 minutes drive. Hickory Lake is a large reservoir with marina where you can rent a boat and it also offers a good game fishing. Nice swimming beach access on Lake Hickory 13 miles ( 20 Minutes) from here: Lake Hickory Wittenburg access area (Wittenburg Access Area, 175 Wildlife Access Rd, Hickory, NC 28601) Asheville is 1:25 hrs to the West, Charlotte is 1:25 hr to the East. Located on family land granted by King Charles in 1685 we have worked hard to restore and refurbish in a sustainable way, using the trees and supplies from the land that they sit on. We had a wonderful stay at Danielle’s tiny house! The location was ideal, just a short drive to both Asheville and Black Mountain. The house was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and stocked with everything we could possibly need—truly a home away from home. We loved the fresh eggs and enjoyed relaxing by the fire pit in the evening. Getting to see the chickens and turkeys roaming freely around the property was such a unique and charming touch. This is a peaceful, well-cared-for spot that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. We would absolutely stay here again. Thank you, Danielle!

This is a side view of the yurt tent. Its built on a platform so you can camp up off the ground and on a flat surface. There are m any potted plants at this camp. If you have always wanted to garden but feel like you couldn't because of whatever reason you can here. There are old milk jugs you can fill with water and water the plants, harvest from them and use them in dinner. For example, harvest a pepper and roast it on the campfire. Add it to your burger for a nice zing.

The tent site was excellent. It was very private, with clean sheets, comfortable beds, and a well-maintained tent. The kids had a great time playing in the creek and especially enjoyed hiking the small loop after dark to see the fairy lights. The bathroom was cleaner and nicer than expected, making the stay even more enjoyable.

We LOVED camping here ! We are not campers by sport and are in no way, experts but this was amazing. The property is sooo cute ! We went on a walk and picked a basketful of blackberries 🥰 The goats provided everything we needed to be comfy, the yurt area was perfect for our small family. The creek, swing, grill, and all. We loved it ! A really bad thunderstorm hit the night we stayed and we hunkered down and made it through. It was an experience we will NEVER forget and can't wait to visit again. Weekend Trip to Rustic Ridge Rooftop Skoolie

We had the best time on Steven’s land in the Rooftop Skoolie! Steven was an extremely gracious and communicative host, and we felt incredibly cared and provided for throughout the entire trip! The bus sits at the backside of a beautiful property and feels completely private. We opted for Steven to provide a bundle of firewood for us, and a large, dry stack was waiting for us when we arrived! While sitting around the fire pit, you’ll enjoy mountain views and wide open rolling hay fields. We loved roasting marshmallows and catching fireflies in the evening. The newly constructed “outhouse” (toilet, shower, and laundry) was gorgeous, clean, and climate controlled, which made getting cleaned up after a long hot day of hiking a real treat. The bus itself was a highlight of the trip for my two boys. They loved sitting behind the wheel, pressing all of the switches and buttons, and operating the door for us to move in and out. The interior has been carefully designed and crafted to maximize utility without sacrificing comfort. While we did spend most of our time outdoors, we were all able to sleep comfortably inside. There’s a small selection of card and board games that we played at the picnic table during downtime and didn’t feel the need to turn the TV on at all. If you’re looking for a special weekend getaway close to hiking, swimming, waterfalls, fishing, mountain biking, paddling, and so much more, look no further than the Rooftop Skoolie! 10/10 would recommend!

This property was absolutely fantastic! It is a little piece of heaven nestled I the foothills of South Mtn. The property offers peace, quiet and beauty with an amazing host that makes sure you're comfortable and taken care of. The property also hosts a slew of gorgeous animals including Highland cattle. The site is well-maintained, well stocked and provides you comfort away from home. Its far enough away from civilization to give you peace and quiet, but also close enough if you want to run and get a pizza or hit a local brewery. This adorable little cabin was everything my fiancée and I wanted for a peaceful weekend getaway. The location feels very secluded and the cabin is surrounded by beautiful woods. So quiet and peaceful, we heard zero traffic noise. Our dogs absolutely loved being able to be off leash, and there are several little trails that were a blast to explore. The cabin was very comfortable and was equipped with everything we needed. Host was very helpful and responsive, we definitely would love to come back sometime in the future!

I loved watching the stars and enjoying the nighttime quiet, and exploring the woods by day. Where to go

Lake Norman State Park

Find electricity-equipped cabins, RV parks with full-hookups, and tent campsites with firepits and hot showers at Lake Norman State Park. The 1.5-hour drive east brings campers to fun boating and fishing opportunities along a 375-foot long sandy beach. Rent a jet ski to cruise around, a speedboat to waterski, or a pontoon boat to leisurely experience the outdoor splendors of Lake Norman. Many companies also offer guided fishing tours as well as wakeboard, kayak, and canoe rentals. For campers looking for land activities, wander along Lake Norman Lakeshore Trail or hit the 30 miles of single-track mountain biking trails.

Whitewater Falls

Cascading 411 feet down, Whitewater Falls is dubbed the highest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. It’s open year-round from dawn until dusk and is roughly a 2-hour drive east from Shelby. While there isn’t any camping right at the falls, there are picnic tables and restrooms, making it a scenic stop for snacks or lunch. Then stay and savor the stunning views of the falls from two overlook areas—one of which is wheelchair-accessible. Peak hours are in the middle of the day, making morning or evening quieter times to visit.

Stone Mountain State Park

A 2-hour drive north from Shelby, Stone Mountain State Park delivers unparalleled hiking, horseback riding, fishing, rock climbing, and a variety of camping options year-round. Find tent campsites with fire rings, or hike Widow’s Creek Trail to four primitive backcountry campsites. For more amenities, try an RV park nearby that features electrical and water hookups as well as communal dump stations. Then check out the restored Hutchinson Homestead farm and the 600-foot granite dome that looms in the background.

When to go

North Carolina experiences four distinct seasons. June, July, and August are peak summer months, with temperatures reaching a high of 89°F, accompanied by plenty of rain. January and February are the coldest months, with temperatures dropping slightly below freezing. The busiest times to visit Shelby are in spring and autumn, when warm weather with less humidity makes outdoor activities like hiking and biking most comfortable.
