The south side of the ridge has a small pond close to the road. The rest is pasture, and an orchard and small vineyard. The north side of the ridge is old growth timber, and shady and cool. The two cabins are along the river. One is perched on a ridge over looking the river and the other is right on the river. The swimming hole is 30 feet from the lower cabin. There is room for a couple campsites along the river also. The south side of the ridge was a cotton farm decades ago, but was covered in timber when I bought it 12 years ago. The north side has been in timber for the known history of the property.

The site offers three luxury large Safari Style Tents and 4 Pioneer wagons. All tents are far away from each other to provide privacy and freedom of going Wild (still remaining civilized in your manners and careful attitude to Nature around you). Tent 1 is in the Forrest itself and it is pretty cook and serene. Tent 2 is on the top of a rocky hill overlooking the forest. Tent 3 is the most remote and closest to the ponds. It has most of the open space around it, and can be a great place for parties. We are working on making the sites and the area more comfortable, but I do not want to make it a manicured park. I want it to remain wild and still offer comfortable stay. The farm is work in progress. Eventually it will be an Ostrich farm. and have other animals too. The closest town - Lenoir is about 12 miles away . Closest Grocery store (Dollar General) - about 3 miles away. Closest Gas station - 2 miles away. Professional Tennis court, Basketball court and large kids playground are in a public park within - 5 minute drive. Lenoir has restaurants, shopping, etc. Hickory is a larger town about 25 minutes drive. Hickory Lake is a large reservoir with marina where you can rent a boat and it also offers a good game fishing. Weekend Trip to Adin`s river cabin

My family & I loved Adin’s cabin. It was perfect for us to escape the fast city life for the weekend. We walked the creek bank, searched for worms, tried fishing.. but had no luck. Mr. Adin said Helene had taken most of the fish. The water was crystal clear, & the sound of the water moving had me mesmerized. The kids enjoyed watching movies upstairs in the loft, & they had plenty to keep them busy. We can’t wait to come back in the Summer. Thanks again Adin for having us! The Turner Family 🥰

This was the perfect spot for us. A group of long time friends wanting to spend time together. Have some comforts that make it easier then camping but still enjoy the outside was a perfect fit. Blair was an exceptional host. He takes great care of his guests and responded to things very promptly. He brought up a second solar generator for us because the first wasn't fully charged and got us tiki torch oil when we needed it. The property is beautiful and I definitely plan on going back. The hilltop safari tent is a great spot and I highly recommend it. The tent was in immaculate shape and ready for us to have a great weekend.

We loved our visit and will very likely return! The safari tent was exactly as described, and it made for an easy and relaxing overnight after a big hiking day. Really enjoyed the creekside spot, winding-down around the fire-pit and the Adirondack chairs on the deck. Other campers were around but were no bother. The peaceful sound of the creek reduced any noise, plus wooden dividers around sites increased privacy. Thank you Blair for hosting us!

I can’t say enough about how great this place is! The property is beautiful, and also secure. I felt safe being there. The different sites are far enough from one another that you don’t feel like you’re there with anyone or on top of each other. The yurt itself (I stayed in the Gnome) was clean and well kept, had every thing I could need or want. It was comfortable and felt very cozy on the chilly nights. Sitting on the deck for breakfast and dinner was perfect. The view is beyond words! Having utensils, propane heat, electricity for basics like charging electronics, and everything I need for cooking was perfect. Add on top of that the little additional things like games, towels, a little rechargeable and portable lamp, and cleaning supplies, this place was perfect! Even if I never left the property it was an amazing vacation with great hiking and a beautiful serene escape. My dogs both loved being able to explore off leash and I never felt like they were unsafe. I’m already planning my trip back next fall with my entire family!

The yurt had all the comforts of home and Briana was extremely responsive and helpful! She provided water jugs for us so we wouldn't have to haul in our own.

I loved camping here there was this huge observation ridge and the tents had everything you’d need, plus the site had bundles of firewood available as add on or purchase on site. It was very cold when I went so I am glad they included a space heaters for the tents. I only wish I known where it was sooner. I brought my dog along as well for her first camping trip. Having everything available made it easier to look after her.

i absolutely loved staying here! the bed was so comfy, the towels were lovely, the coffee was amazing, the yurt was spacious & the heater was very nice. i loved all the personal touches like the gratitude journal & the games and activities for guests to do- i wish i had more time here! my only complaint would be that the outdoor shower water was FREEZING- would love to have a warm shower. might be OK / better in the warmer months

Great spot! You can pack light, as most of what you need is already at the site. Host was very responsive, though we did not need much, as everything was provided. Quiet, peaceful, and private. We had two dogs with us (mine is reactive/fearful) and it was secluded enough that I did not feel that I needed to worry too much during our stay.

Where to go

Lake Norman State Park

Find electricity-equipped cabins, RV parks with full-hookups, and tent campsites with firepits and hot showers at Lake Norman State Park. The 1.5-hour drive east brings campers to fun boating and fishing opportunities along a 375-foot long sandy beach. Rent a jet ski to cruise around, a speedboat to waterski, or a pontoon boat to leisurely experience the outdoor splendors of Lake Norman. Many companies also offer guided fishing tours as well as wakeboard, kayak, and canoe rentals. When to go

North Carolina experiences four distinct seasons. June, July, and August are peak summer months, with temperatures reaching a high of 89°F, accompanied by plenty of rain. January and February are the coldest months, with temperatures dropping slightly below freezing. The busiest times to visit Shelby are in spring and autumn, when warm weather with less humidity makes outdoor activities like hiking and biking most comfortable.
