We carved our 43 acre horse farm out of wild swampy land in 2007 and finished the barndeminium in 2008. We started with Hipcamp 6 years ago and enjoy meeting new people. My husband is retired from the Air Force and works full time doing the chores. I retired May 2024 from being a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at Womack Army Medical Center. I have a side hobby making homemade jams, pickles and flavored goat cheese spreads. We love the peacefulness of where we live...although the weather chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, peacocks, goats and horses do get a little loud come feeding time. We have different sites, please read each description or message me before you book a stay. All the sites have an 8pm latest check in unless you've stayed with us before. With the cold snap we have been experiencing the RV water source will freeze up over night. Please message me before booking the RV. We are constantly looking for ways to upgrade or make our farm more fun to visit.

Come enjoy your stay bring a kayak or canoe and float around the 6 acres of ponds and catch some of the many bass, bream or crappie that occupy the waters. The property is located 7 miles off highway 74/76 in Whiteville and 10 miles to Lake Waccamaw, 32 miles to Ocean Isle Beach, 45 miles to Wilmington, 36 miles to North Myrtle Beach. The road is gravel all the way to the camping area with signs for directions. When there’s no burn ban in place or lack of rain i do try to keep firewood on-site but I recommend checking with me before your stay. There is plenty of seasoned raw wood (from when the property was cleared 4 years ago) laying randomly throughout the property to cut and collect for a camp fire. The land is located off a dirt access road that is well maintained by the county. The county dirt road can provide for hours of peaceful riding via mountain bikes. Campers are more then welcome to cut their own path on the land for their campsite. There is a fire pit by the large tree when first entering the property at Entrance 2 (please see photos for the locations of Entrance 1 and 2). Note: This raw land is unmaintained and was last cleared 4 years ago, photos are from April 2022. 5 nights at The Rusty Spur

I spent a few days here in early December and just extended for the next month. It’s a charming, rural spot with full amenities at all sites, bathrooms including showers, washer and dryer. Pet friendly with trails to take my dog for a walk. Will and Lorie have been exceptionally kind and welcoming and came to check on me during a recent cold spell. Very safe and private. There’s a nearby mobile rv technician, Mike the RV Medic who helped me repair my furnace and was very professional. Very reasonable rates for everything being offered. I highly recommend!

Beautiful, private and somewhat enchanted. We felt such a sense of peace here. From the first contact with Mike, we knew it would be special. Large, private lots were scattered throughout the wooded area. Very well landscaped and looking forward to returning when everything is in bloom. If this is any indication of what our retirement will be like, we’re ready to explore now. A lot of love and care has built this place and it shows!

Absolutely beautiful place. The pictures don't do it justice. Well spaced, generously sized sites, and clean, nicely maintained porta-john. The provided wipes are especially nice. The camp hostess rolls out the red carpet. We will definitely be coming back here.

Yet again, another wonderful weekend at Black River Camping Ventures. I think this is my third Thanksgiving weekend in a row. And I will be back. The beauty of this area is breathtaking. I am more amazed each visit. Thanks as usual to Lisa and Eric for being the perfect hosts. They are always willing to help with any needs. For anyone camping this past weekend, I will hopefully see you next year!

2 nights at Black River Camping Ventures

We loved Black River Camping Ventures, it’s a most beautiful and serene landscape. Right on the river the views are magical. Walking up to the point and watching the sunset was a breathtaking moment. They have a lovely beach area to launch kayaks and some wonderful swamp and cypress areas to explore. Catfish in the river make fishing a fun time! The camping areas are large and each feature a fire ring with swing over cooking grate, trash can and picnic table. There are a couple of portable-John’s for use which are kept spotless. They even supply tissue, wipes and sanitizer! Mrs Lisa and Mr Eric were absolutely wonderful hosts, and made sure we had everything we needed for a fabulous time. We recommend very highly this camping site for fun family adventures.

I always come back here! Quiet, and all you hear is fish jumping and birds squawking. Always neat and tidy and ready to use. Great experience and Lisa is always so accommodating. Best firewood also!!!!

I brought my RV out to Michael’s place and had an incredible stay. The property is spotless—honestly looks and feels brand new and the peace and quiet out there is exactly what I needed. Michael was an awesome host, quick to respond, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. The space is open, relaxing, and very well taken care of. I’ll definitely be coming back without a doubt. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a clean, quiet, and comfortable getaway.

Michael's treasure of a campground has become My Go-To stop over when I travel back and forth from Florida to visit family and friends. I think I've officially stayed there five times now. He is SO welcoming and thoughtful. The campground is beautiful, spots are pretty private and everything is spotless and so well kept!! Until next time! 🚐😊

3 nights at Idlewild Farm Stays

The adult wild farm is just a perfect campground unlike many commercial campgrounds. It’s a very homey and cozy place to go. Michel is absolutely wonderful. Can’t say enough about her just a very, very nice lady and if I’m back in North Carolina anytime that’s where I’ll be staying.
