Weekend Trip to Country Comfort Camping

Nice little spot just up the street from the main drag in Hot Springs. Paul has set up a welcoming little retreat for a camper, including a lovely "boathouse" with bathroom, hot shower, deck overlooking the opposite mountain, and other amenities like a grill and fridge. This is just a little ways off 25/70, so you will get light road noise, but it didn't bother us. We still heard the birds chirping happily and bugs chittering as we watched the sun set.

2 nights at Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Ranch

Catherine was great and the property was so cool. Rocks campsite had the river view and sounds I was craving :) Bring hammocks! However, buyer be aware! For riverside campsites like Rocks that were hit badly by hurricane Helene, they are trying to regrow the grass, so no tents/carpets on the grassy areas. That is 90% or more of the flat tent camping space. We found one ok spot for our small (4 person) tent in the pea gravel by the fire pit, so it worked out. But if we had brought a tent that was any larger (like the 6p tent we’ve been eyeballing), or more campers, we would have been out of luck. The other spaces in the pea gravel are not flat, and if you’ve ever slept on a hill you know it is… not great. Maybe they’d have allowed us to switch to another site if we couldn't make it work but I feel you should know (or double check) before you book. Also! Make sure to check for burn bans before you go! Big drought, wildfires in NC, strict burn ban meant that no campfires were had. Check before you go to set your expectations. Still, the amazing spot was worth it for us (2 ppl, 2 dogs). Good times were had and we would come back! And, thanks for the eggs, they were great!

I loved camping so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The campsite is well situated between the Parkway and Brevard. The site was very quiet and peaceful with the sound of the river right next to our site. We stayed at site 6. Tom, our host, was very kind and knowledgeable about the area. He gave us great local information about great places to see!

Weekend Trip to Raven Ridge

This place was the perfect weekend retreat. The place felt peaceful and silent—perfect for disconnecting and recharging. There’s a hill right next to the house where you can catch an amazing sunrise and sunset—the view of the Appalachian Mountains turning purple with the sunset light was beautiful. Mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee were my favorite—fresh air, a ton of birds singing, and total calm. At night, the sky was full of stars, perfect for stargazing. The house is really cozy and gives you that feeling of getting back to the basics and simple things of life. The Turkish oven was a fun and different experience for us, and the host, James, along with the people in the community, were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Would definitely come back!

Great spot right on the river! We had a great time at At the Ridge Camp- Riverside Escapes. We are a family of 5 & stayed in cabin #2. It is a rustic camping cabin but was clean, spacious enough for all of us to sleep comfortably & had electricity. The showers were HOT & Tom made sure we had everything needed. They are still rebuilding from Helene but are definitely up & ready for campers! We will definitely be back.

This was such a cool spot! The cow was so nice and came up to greet us as soon as we arrived. The cabin is very cozy and has everything you need to cook a meal, including a small electric stovetop (although we ended up cooking with our skillet over the fire). The bed upstairs is incredibly comfortable and we got some of the best sleep we've had in a while. The weather was perfect when we were there, so we didn't need them, but there is a large space heater and window a/c unit if you're cold/hot. Beautiful property nestled in the hills, a really nice drive through winding mountain roads, and great scenery all around. Would love to come back sometime!

1 night at Raven Ridge

We stayed at Hilltop Cabin as our first stop on a week long road trip from Baltimore to Austin. It was so great to stay somewhere peaceful and beautiful after being in the car all day, and our pup could play and stretch her legs! We were even able to duck into Asheville for dinner when we arrived and for breakfast the next morning as we had never been! The bed was super comfy and the cabin had everything we needed to relax before getting back on the road. Our hosts were friendly and i’m sure would have been accommodating should we have needed anything, but the cabin was perfect and we were totally set as is! Our dog and the cow, Kashi, also started a beautiful friendship. Would love to come back one day :-) Thank you!

I sleep a lot on the day bed in the living room so the Sawmill can be comfortably rented for up to 4 guests. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom.We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.

My property consists of a ridge running east to west with the access road running along the south border. the land slopes up to the ridge for about 300 feet, and then down to the river for about 800 feet. The south side of the ridge has a small pond close to the road. The rest is pasture, and an orchard and small vineyard. The north side of the ridge is old growth timber, and shady and cool. The two cabins are along the river. One is perched on a ridge over looking the river and the other is right on the river. The swimming hole is 30 feet from the lower cabin. There is room for a couple campsites along the river also. The south side of the ridge was a cotton farm decades ago, but was covered in timber when I bought it 12 years ago. The north side has been in timber for the known history of the property.

Nestled at the base of Spivey mountain, only 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, we are surrounded by trees, water and mountain views. The sounds of the flowing creek, accompanied by bullfrogs and tree frogs around the pond, give the feeling of being far away from the bustle of the city, yet all the attractions of town are only few minutes drive. On site, we have a cooperative workshop, where artists come to work on their craft. From knife making and herbalism to vintage motorcycle mechanics, there is always something interesting going on! During the day, glimpse some of the locals in their native habitat :-) At night fall asleep to the serenade of cicadas, the moon peeking through the trees, and wake up to watch the mist rise off the mountain. The ground floor of the house welcomes campers to use the well stocked communal kitchen and bathroom. Wifi and other amenities available in the community area as well. We bought this beautiful river front land in 2006. We built a small cabin as a second home and vacation rental. We have created so many wonderful memories here and met some amazing people. It was always a dream of ours to move here full time once our children were raised. We have recently moved here full time and Love sharing our beautiful space with hip campers. We enjoy meeting new people and helping guests create beautiful memories at this magical space we call "Lil Slice A Heaven " Learn more about this land: This is an amazing river front space with so much to offer. Included in your private space is an incredible outdoor covered grilling area that makes for fun while cooking on the river with the best waterfront view around. We also provide a very clean and well maintained Outhouse with hand washing station and a large fire pit with comfortable seating for six under the beautiful dark sky of Green mountain. You are sure to see shooting stars on a clear night! There is also a dish washing area with portable water that we provide for you. Lights are solar and can be controlled with a remote. We have yurt style canvas tents with queen memory foam beds, luxury linens provided as well as pillows. There is also a fantastic covered sitting area with comfortable wicker furniture and a lovely table for dinning or playing games. River tubes available for your use . Pets or children under 18 our welcome on an individual basis. There is a train across the river that may run several times a day or it may not run at all. This is not a passenger train. We find it very nostalgic. We do provide earplugs for the light sleeper. There is even a swinging bridge across the river that will take you to the tracks. We have several hammocks on the property for amazing star gazing at night or for a nice afternoon nap along the river front . We do also provide several fun out door games such as horse shoes and corn hole, bocce ball and ring toss. We are very excited to share this special place with you!
