There are also a number of other trailheads within 45 minutes of the farm to include Little Sam Knob Trailhead and the Art Loeb/Cold Mountain Trailhead off of Hwy 215 (for hikers) and Hard Times Trailhead in Asheville for bikers and hikers. Take a look around before you come for other outdoor possibilities in the area to enjoy. Learn more about this land: We live in Beaverdam Community just north of the town of Canton. We adore our land and do our best to preserve and care for the natural beauty around us. At the farm, June is firefly month and late September/October is leaf-peeping season (no need to drive to see either of those!). My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Learn more about this land:   Pitch your tent in the grass on the tip top of the mountain or park your camper in the flat gravel spot with a fire pit just below the top with beautiful views overlooking Cane Creek.  In the fall and winter enjoy 360 degree views and in the summer enjoy the shade and cool breeze while relaxing & snacking on wild wine berries and black raspberries.   What you will not find is light pollution, traffic, and a desire to leave the mountain.  Fall asleep to the calls of the hoot owl and wake up to the knocking of the wood pecker.       If & when you decide to explore the area, be sure to checkout Hickory Nut Gap farm just 7.9 miles away & Whistle Hop Brewery 7.7 miles away.  Turgua brewery just down on Cane Creek road is only 6.2 miles from camp.  Cane Creek Valley Farm as well as the Cane Creek Community swimming pool is also at the base of camp just in case the kids need a dip of ice cream or a dip in the pool.  Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville.  We love taking our kids there.      We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. Get away from the crowds. On 300 beautiful acres once operated as a children's summer adventure camp, this property has a house with a dormitory style bathroom for camper use. There are 3 primitive campsites, 2 cottages, and a horse sanctuary. The campsites are spaced out around the property for privacy. Ask about bathroom use depending on the season. 4WD or AWD is recommended for all sites due to 1/2 mile gravel road and then completely off road for a short distance. Or, if you are bringing 2WD, there is plenty of parking and then walk to your campsite. We don't recommend trying to bring large RV's due to the access. We have not had a problem with Black Bears on the property. Help us keep it that way. Do not store or keep food in your tent. Don't sleep with food. Keep in mind bears are omnivores much like us. They eat mostly plants but also eat meat. For more info on bear safety, visit www.bearwise.org Winter camping is encouraged with free firewood. However, you will probably need to park on the gravel and walk to your campsite to limit soil erosion of the off-road trail. Pets are welcome only at some sites, but please please let us know you are bringing them and they will need to be leashed due to other animals. A large part of the property is forest with hiking trails, creeks, and wildlife. You can see wildflowers and lightning bugs in season along with deer, turkey, and horses. And all of our spots have a great view of the sky! We're not far from the Bare Dark Sky Observatory. The grass horse arena and the pond were originally built for the summer camp. The pond is stocked with bass and bluegill and has a chorus of bullfrogs in summer. The arena is flat and has a long range mountain view all the way to Mt. Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi). There are also a meadow spot encircled by trees.

Supplies can be found at the state park camp store or in town at Redi-Mart or Dollar General. Water and showers are down by barn. A Gator is available for the duration of your stay. Please arrive before sundown so we can meet you the first time you stay to show you the way and make sure you are comfortable driving Gator. We will have you follow us up to the campsite and from there you can come and go and just leave the Gator by your car near the barn when you are out and about and when checking out. A small Bluetti power charging station will be available in the tent (for light charging of cell phones, other) which can be recharged by the barn if used heavily. A Coleman stove with a small propane tank, pots, a frying pan and utensils is also included in the site. Another small propane tank is provided for the radiator in the tent.

Get away from the crowds. On 300 beautiful acres once operated as a children's summer adventure camp, this property has a house with a dormitory style bathroom for camper use. There are 3 primitive campsites, 2 cottages, and a horse sanctuary. The campsites are spaced out around the property for privacy. Ask about bathroom use depending on the season. 4WD or AWD is recommended for all sites due to 1/2 mile gravel road and then completely off road for a short distance. Or, if you are bringing 2WD, there is plenty of parking and then walk to your campsite. We don't recommend trying to bring large RV's due to the access. We have not had a problem with Black Bears on the property. Help us keep it that way. Do not store or keep food in your tent. Don't sleep with food. Keep in mind bears are omnivores much like us. They eat mostly plants but also eat meat. For more info on bear safety, visit www.bearwise.org Winter camping is encouraged with free firewood. However, you will probably need to park on the gravel and walk to your campsite to limit soil erosion of the off-road trail. Pets are welcome only at some sites, but please please let us know you are bringing them and they will need to be leashed due to other animals. A large part of the property is forest with hiking trails, creeks, and wildlife. You can see wildflowers and lightning bugs in season along with deer, turkey, and horses. And all of our spots have a great view of the sky! We're not far from the Bare Dark Sky Observatory. The grass horse arena and the pond were originally built for the summer camp. The pond is stocked with bass and bluegill and has a chorus of bullfrogs in summer. The arena is flat and has a long range mountain view all the way to Mt. Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi). There are also a meadow spot encircled by trees.

Greener Acres minutes from Roan Mountain State Park and the Appalachian Trail. Use Greener Acres campsite as your jumping-off point for fun nearby activities or relax on our 40 acre mountainside property and watch for meteor showers in the clear night sky! Within 5 minutes, you can be at Roan Mountain State Park or drive 5-10 minutes to hike the Appalachian Trail. Head up to Carvers Gap just below Roan Mountain High Knob where you can hop out and enjoy a short walk to a scenic view of both the TN and NC mountains or visit the famous Rhododendron Gardens in season. Campsite also boasts energizing, private hike up to Heaton Ridge. Want to spend the day kayaking or canoeing? Head to Wilbur Lake, about a 30 minute drive away from our campsite. Exploring Laura Falls is only a 20 minute drive away. Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, and Grandfather Mountain in N.C. are about 30-45 minutes away. The Smokey Mountains, Gatlinburg, and Dollywood are about a 2 hour drive through amazing mountain views. The annual Rhododendron Festival takes place minutes away. Supplies can be found at the state park camp store or in town at Redi-Mart or Dollar General. Water and showers are down by barn. A Gator is available for the duration of your stay. Please arrive before sundown so we can meet you the first time you stay to show you the way and make sure you are comfortable driving Gator. We will have you follow us up to the campsite and from there you can come and go and just leave the Gator by your car near the barn when you are out and about and when checking out. A small Bluetti power charging station will be available in the tent (for light charging of cell phones, other) which can be recharged by the barn if used heavily. A Coleman stove with a small propane tank, pots, a frying pan and utensils is also included in the site. Another small propane tank is provided for the radiator in the tent.

From a small farm with typical livestock and vegetable gardens to a tree seedling nursery to hiking trails to cattle grazing in the fields, it has served its owners well. During the 1940's and early '50's, the Argura Post Office was located on the porch of my house. I have the original cancellation stamp. My husband is deceased, and I am hosting campers to meet people who love to camp as much as we did. My photo is with my dog Mollie. If you are looking for peace and tranquility in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this privately owned, primitive campground is a great place for your tent! Nestled in Medford Mountain at about 1200 ft., each creek-side slip has a magnificent view of the 1532 ft. mountaintop. Whether surrounded by spring blossoms or fall foliage, animal and leaf lovers often see turkeys at dawn and deer at dusk. Foxes and bobcats have also been spotted on occasion. It is important to note that bear and coyote roam freely on the adjacent mountaintop, although are rarely seen or heard. Proper wilderness precautions must always be taken while camping. Aside from the flora and fauna, one of the biggest attractions is the star-filled sky. On a clear night, it is imperative to take a break from your private campfire to appreciate the Milky Way. You may also enjoy the meteor showers in August and other celestial events. Not to be outdone, the day sky does not disappoint. If a pop-up shower passes through, a double rainbow is often left in its wake. In the surrounding area, there are many outdoor activities to enjoy during the day. In a half hour or less, you may go horseback riding, ziplining, kayaking, tubing, fishing, hiking, and climbing. Public access to Lake Lure is less than 15 mi. away, but access to a lakeside road with amazing views is only a couple of minutes away. In addition, there is a little-known waterfall about 8 minutes up the street. If spending the day on site, be sure to walk the trail on the opposite side of the creek and hike up the hill for a different view. In addition, badminton, volleyball, ladder ball, cornhole, Yardzee, croquet, bocce, frisbees, footballs, board games and books are available for free rental. I loved the small cabin #1 on Carrie and Tom's land. It was the perfect amount of space for two people. Tom was super friendly and made his rounds everyday to make sure we had everything we needed. The river was so close we could walk right down and fish. The grounds were well kept, clean and always kept warm in 20 degree low temps with plenty of heaters and an extra blanket to hang over our door for extra warmth. We will be coming back in the spring and summer and bringing friends for sure to enjoy with us! A+++++

There was a small play set for the kids and an easy hiking trail toward the end of the property. We were able to get firewood on the site and we had a great time!

The site has beautiful views. It is private even though the house is right up the hill you can’t see it over a berm. It was a bonus to have access to a bathroom toilet and hot shower. We had a great time and will definitely be back! The view was great and the site felt private. It was honestly hard to pick which fire pit we wanted to use. If you’re tent camping the top one is probably better. We used the bottom pit since we were truck camping. The closed in shed serves as a good shelter in case of inclement weather and the on-site outhouse was a nice added feature as well. I feel like the price is reasonable as well, not too cheap but not too expensive either. There are a good bit of downed trees around but not much can be done about that and I believe it’s helped open up the view too. Overall we were very happy and will definitely be coming back!

This place is truly breathtaking! The site is level ground with a creek surrounded by mountains. They have great fire pits and the hosts were so incredibly kind and fun! They helped me build a nice fire and they also offer packets to throw in the fire for colored flames, which I was really excited about! They also brought me a cornhole set up that you can order with your booking. I will defietly be back..maybe this trip. You can truly get a sense of mountain life here. I loved it!!

Had a great time in cabin #2. This is a rustic cabin next to a stream. Waze GPS got us right to camp site. Tom the camp host greeted us shortly after we arrived and was so helpful on tips to keep cabin cozy. He also gave us a map and excellent directions to Dupont Forest. Camp restrooms/showers are a short walk from cabin. Port a potty even closer than restrooms. Camp ground has a good vibe. Front door didn't lock. Smore kit for extra fee was awesome, also some assorted snacks available. There is a small store nearby to get basics. No phone or internet service available at campground. Relax and unplug!

Don't think, just book. The beauty of this place is what drew me to it. The kindness, and warmth June brings to this place is what makes you stay. Quite a magical stay, with the sweetest dogs and beautiful grounds to explore. Placed perfectly to explore surrounding hikes and waterfalls. June is an excellent host with a wealth of information about the area and history behind her place. If you're looking for somewhere quiet, clean, with excellent stargazing, book it.

Truly at the top of a mountain! Edwin communicates quickly & answered all our questions. The shelter Edwin has made is awesome, wouldn’t even need a tent if you want to sleep in there. The pit toilet is a GREAT addition. The dog cable run is a really nice too. There are multiple spots to place tents and two different spots to have a fire. We had a group of 10 people with 6 tents and still had open spots. 2 trucks & a van fit at the parking on site, the mini van struggled a bit up parts of the graveled hill drive but made it! 10/10 recommend & would love to come back.
