Campers at Ubuntu found the perfect spot to observe the April 8th TOTAL solar eclipse. There are no lights, no neighbors in sight, and they had the freedom to choose their campsite or observation point, whether it was on the flat, nestled in the trees, or on top of Carney Mountain. RV’s also easily found a spot to camp. New friends were made as everyone observed the eclipse. It was totally awe inspiring in so many ways!! The open areas and the top of Carney Mountain, which is a short hike with panoramic views of the area, were perfect spots to experience the solar eclipse, Northern Lights, sunrises and sunsets. The 115 acres of Ubuntu offer many opportunities for camping, hiking and enjoying the abundant wildlife. There is a wet area that sometimes becomes several ponds if the beavers have been at work. There is a path leading to the ponds and also one that runs through the woods to the right of the ponds. The location is private and quiet but still very accessible (only 10 minutes from Exit 34 off the Northway) to all the Adirondacks has to offer, such as biking, jogging, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking. Ubuntu is located only 45 minutes from Lake Placid and the high peaks areas, Saranac Lake is about one hour away, Lake Champlain is 20 minutes away, and Montreal is one hour away. The ferry to Vermont if you wish to cross over the pond (Lake Champlain) is about 45 minutes away. And Exit 34 off the Northway is only 10 minutes from Ubuntu. And if you love equestrian sports, the Willow Hill Equestrian Center is less than 1.5 miles away. Bring your horse and stable your buddy at the Willow Hill Farm, or sign up for a lesson with one of their accomplished instructors. Your furry pets are welcome, but we ask that you keep them on a leash if they tend to chase game or do not have a reliable recall. Please use good judgment. There are many deer on the property, so yes we do have ticks. Please take the necessary precautions. Generators are allowed but in keeping with the peace and tranquility of Ubuntu, please run them only between the hours of 12:00 - 2 PM, especially if other campers are present.. Across from the cabins is the shower house with four hot showers, sink, and toilets. Showers and toilets have closed stalls. Currently, the water system is above ground and will not work in freezing temps. We have installed an outhouse for year round use. All water is from our excellent well. On each side of the former(closed) dining are spots. There are electrical outlets on the outside of the dining hall. People with campers may like to park in the riding arena near the barnyard. There are outlets, but no toilets. Good water is available from the barns. Lovely views of sky and mountains! We also have a beautiful 50 acre field with a household type outlet, but no well. There is an outhouse there. Excellent sky viewing here. This is where we jump and train our horses. Horses may be turned out in this field.

This campsite was great! during the busy time of year, I can see it being nice because its slightly down the street from the main little wolf campground. So you are a bit removed from the main area but still within walking distance to all of its amenities! I was there when the main camp was closed so the beach was very nice and quiet! The fire pit was also a very nice touch!

We arrived late and left early so didn't get to enjoy everything the site offered, but were pleased with our spot and would happily come back another time to explore more. We appreciated the privacy of our spot and the fact that there were hookups if we wanted them. The place is a bit hard to find at night (Google Maps and Apple Maps take you to different places), so recommend arriving while you still have some light.

We really appreciated finding such a nice site, with full hookups, in late October, when most all the regular campgrounds have closed for the season. We end up staying extra days, 4 days total, because of rain. Cozy spot. Still close to town for restaurants, laundry, groceries. Loved getting in a bike ride on the newly opened Adirondack Rail Trail, accessed just down the street. Only negative, with the rain, the site called Forest View 1 got quite muddy. Too many campers have laid out big rugs, killing a large section of the grass. Otherwise, the sites are all grass.

Weekend Trip to Peaceful Country Haven

Tip-top spot with breathtaking views in a great location, 45 minutes from Burlington and 45m-1.5h from the interior (Waterbury, Killington, Woodstock, Montpelier, Stowe), right in the heart of the Green Mountains. Melinda and Dave were very responsive to our messages and just great hosts. They maintain a beautiful, flat site with a lot of privacy, a stocked and cleaned outhouse, and complementary firewood. What’s not to love? This was our first trip with our rig up to Vermont and it’s definitely gonna be part of a regular rotation. Weekend Trip to Transparent Sands, Diamond Point

Just as described- a lovely spot to stay. The port-a-potty was pleasant, the sink with a hose made it easy to keep everything clean and everyone hydrated, and the fire pit and picnic table were fun additions to our afternoons and evenings. jThe spot felt special because of the river's morning fog and evening beaver. I'd recommend staying here and I'd stay here again.

The pup & I had a wonderful weekend away on Cara’s land, it was just what we needed. Found it very peaceful & relaxing. There were two other campers setup but we were on the upper lot and had our own space. All of the local trailheads were packed up so we just had a nice little walking adventure around Little Wolf Pond and it was so nice. Site had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend away - power, water & sewer hookups as well as a fire pit, picnic table and Adirondack chair. Definitely recommend to anyone especially this time of year, the colors around the pond were great! Thanks again!!!

This is my second time staying on James’s property at site 2 with my dog! We loved it just as much as the first time. James and Debbie are super welcoming and easy to reach if you need anything. Porta potty was exceptionally clean! There’s an outdoor shower as well which I didn’t end up using, and also a sink where you can wash your dishes, etc. Site 2 has the most direct views over the water, so that’s why it’s been our favorite. Hope to be back again next year!

Great centralized yet secluded spot. The lean to was the kids favorite to hang out at, eat meals, etc. Water from a well was provided, water pressure wasn’t the best but just filled our white tank and used water pump, power was also provided. Totally recommend for anyone looking a spot to explore ADK!
