From the Catskill mountains to historic villages along the river, the south-eastern corridor of New York has a certain romance. These sweeping vistas inspired the Hudson River School painters and continue to lure artists from New York City, less than an hour away. Today, the Hudson Valley is a blend of charming towns, rolling farmland and protected forests, as wells as posh resorts and restaurants. The Metro-North commuter line run as far north as Poughkeepsie for campers who don't have a car.

Harriman State Park and neighboring Bear Mountain State Park are an ideal home base to explore both nature and civilization. Harriman is the second largest park in the state, but only 40 miles from the city. The quiet forest holds 200 miles of hiking trails and dozens of lakes. The largest, Lake Sebago, has fishing, boat rentals, and a public swimming beach. Campers can make reservations at two campgrounds or book a rustic cabin.

For thinner crowds, head north to the Catskills. These rolling green peaks have some of New York's best hiking and skiing. The area also has many private campgrounds and cottages, including camping resorts that tend toward the glamorous with mini fridges and saunas.

North-South Lake is a popular family campground, with sandy beaches, boating, and a playground, as well as hundreds of tent sites. Hike up to the Kaaterskill Falls for a gorgeous view. Experienced hikers can press onward to the Devil's Path, one of the most dangerous trails in the East. For quiet nights, head to the nearby Minnewaska State Park Preserve, which has a much smaller campground and easy trails.

It goes without saying that you can explore the river valley by water as well. The Hudson River Greenway Water Trail stretches over 250 miles from Manhattan to the Adirondacks. The Greenway's map covers access points for kayak launching, along with nearby campsites in state parks.

Not suitable for parties or loud groups. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that make you feel like you are in another world. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

Learn more about this land: A grassy meadow nestled between a forested ridge the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, an open access walking and bike path. The Rosendale Rail Trail Cafe is just across the meadow from you and Rosendale trestle bridge is a short bike or walk away. We do have hot water showers and heated bathrooms in the Owlwood. Use our hand drawn map to find your way around the farm. Please drive extremely slowly while on the farm road, there and kids and critters everywhere and your car will thank you! Also, we encourage everyone to drive as little as possible while on the farm, why drive when you can walk and enjoy the land. If you want to sleep in a car or rv make sure to contact us so we can let you know where to car camp. No cars are allowed in Red Fox Meadow. It all started when grandfather Charles B Wright first establish this farm in 1904. He purchased it for its natural springs. In our barn (now home to Gardiner Brewing Company) he had gravity fed water troughs for his cattle. Since then we have slowly switched from animals to tree fruit. You will enjoy rolling hills of fruit trees and fruit gardens along with beautiful views of the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge. We have 450+ acres so it in very private. As we are a working farm, you can see us driving pass with our tractors or maintaining the orchard around your campsite on occasion. You are welcome to ride your bikes, hike or jog where you will pass ponds and a working farm landscape. Please don’t pick our fruit. If you would like to enjoy the fruits of our labor please visit our farm store open year round on the premises where we sell cheeses, our fresh picked fruit and veggies, local meats, and our famous cider donuts along with other farm products. We also have a farm brewery open 3-7 in our old dairy barn for you to enjoy. Live music Saturdays and Sundays. Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Reserve are only 10 minutes away. The rail trail is three minutes away. This trail gives you walking and biking access into New Paltz, where there is tons of restaurants and lots of shopping. Please be aware that during the months of September and October there may be a Pick-Your-Own customer or two walking around picking apples around the campsite area between the hours of 10:00-6:00. We are a homestead and small campground devoted to the principles of organic farming and self-reliance. Modern agriculture and big business are unsustainable, destroying farmland at an accelerating pace. It is important for us to teach the next generation, there is an alternative. We produce much of our own food. We have friendly goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks, donkeys and horses the guests can pet and feed. There are no swimming holes on our property, but many waterfalls and swimming spots within a short drive (see list below). A quick 5 minute drive will get you to one of the best disc golf courses in the north east. For the truly adventurous, Clarksville Cave is a short drive away. Primitive Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills. Our PRIVATE camp (no other campers) is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. We are the closest HipCamp site to Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest peak at 4180 feet. A perfect base camp for some of the best hiking in the Catskills, the site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from the trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian, Slide Mountain and dozens more peaks within 30 minutes or so away. Though the base fee covers up to 4 campers, the site accommodates up to 14 campers. The additional fee is $20.00/per camper per night on top of the base fee. Our drive up camp has a 10X12 covered tent platform, several individual tent sites with private fire rings, as well as a bunkhouse and a leanto for day use. The camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. For toilet use, we have a CleanWaste loo which is a 5 gal bucket in a toilet seat box. You lift the lid, place a CleanWaste bag in the bucket which has a kitty litter like powder called Poo Powder in it. You do your business, the powder absorbs all the odor and gels all the matter. When done, you lift the seat, take out the bag, tie it up and throw it in the trash. There are camp rules about how to handle trash, recycling, and compost so as to minimize the possibility of black bear visits. Follow those rules so as to avoid a penalty fees of $50.00 if trash, recycling, and compost are not followed. A detailed message about trash, recycling, and compost practice will be sent to campers days before the booked trip. Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment on Brown rd across the camp entry road.

You may be perfectly content staying put, but if you seek small town offerings, Chatham (15 minutes away) offers restaurants, art galleries, a brewery, movie theatre, two bakeries, and some shops. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking, antiquing, and sightseeing opportunities. Enjoy the big view from the highest corner of the big field. This is a sweet little campsite set in a birch grove with a view to the Catskills, and lots of wildlife. Two minute walk from your car, and a five minute walk to a swimming pond and a composting toilet outhouse. Near Chatham, New York where there is a brewery, cheese shop, bakery, restaurants, and a movie theatre. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking and sightseeing opportunities. Early check-in and late check-out are often fine; just ask. *Special note for winter campers: depending on both snowfall and what you are driving, the parking locations may change. If we can, we will be happy to either ferry you via our 4WD, or help you carry your stuff in. The winter is really fun and beautiful. It's really nice here and we're happy to share it. From the Catskill mountains to historic villages along the river, the south-eastern corridor of New York has a certain romance. These sweeping vistas inspired the Hudson River School painters and continue to lure artists from New York City, less than an hour away. Today, the Hudson Valley is a blend of charming towns, rolling farmland and protected forests, as wells as posh resorts and restaurants. The Metro-North commuter line run as far north as Poughkeepsie for campers who don't have a car.

Harriman State Park and neighboring Bear Mountain State Park are an ideal home base to explore both nature and civilization. Harriman is the second largest park in the state, but only 40 miles from the city. The quiet forest holds 200 miles of hiking trails and dozens of lakes. The largest, Lake Sebago, has fishing, boat rentals, and a public swimming beach. Campers can make reservations at two campgrounds or book a rustic cabin.

For thinner crowds, head north to the Catskills. These rolling green peaks have some of New York's best hiking and skiing. The area also has many private campgrounds and cottages, including camping resorts that tend toward the glamorous with mini fridges and saunas.

North-South Lake is a popular family campground, with sandy beaches, boating, and a playground, as well as hundreds of tent sites. Hike up to the Kaaterskill Falls for a gorgeous view. Experienced hikers can press onward to the Devil's Path, one of the most dangerous trails in the East. For quiet nights, head to the nearby Minnewaska State Park Preserve, which has a much smaller campground and easy trails.

It goes without saying that you can explore the river valley by water as well. The Hudson River Greenway Water Trail stretches over 250 miles from Manhattan to the Adirondacks. The Greenway's map covers access points for kayak launching, along with nearby campsites in state parks.

Not suitable for parties or loud groups. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that make you feel like you are in another world. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). The glamping tent features a queen bed and wood stove and sit about 100 feet from the cabin. Our campsite is approximately 2 hours from George Washington Bridge. This property is 45 acres of beautiful forest with 2000 feet of streamfront on the Mombaccus Creek where you can hang out and cool off on those hot summer days. Minutes from hiking, fishing and horse-riding and everything great about the Catskills. Rough Cut Brewery is a 10 minute drive with amazing beers and food when you don't feel like cooking at the campsite. 25 minutes to the action in New Paltz, 10 minutes to Walmart and 5 minutes to the Kerhonkson Diner, gas station, laundromat, pharmacy, liquor store etc.

Primitive Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills. Our PRIVATE camp (no other campers) is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. We are the closest HipCamp site to Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest peak at 4180 feet. A perfect base camp for some of the best hiking in the Catskills, the site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from the trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian, Slide Mountain and dozens more peaks within 30 minutes or so away. Though the base fee covers up to 4 campers, the site accommodates up to 14 campers. The additional fee is $20.00/per camper per night on top of the base fee. Our drive up camp has a 10X12 covered tent platform, several individual tent sites with private fire rings, as well as a bunkhouse and a leanto for day use. The camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. For toilet use, we have a CleanWaste loo which is a 5 gal bucket in a toilet seat box. You lift the lid, place a CleanWaste bag in the bucket which has a kitty litter like powder called Poo Powder in it. You do your business, the powder absorbs all the odor and gels all the matter. When done, you lift the seat, take out the bag, tie it up and throw it in the trash. There are camp rules about how to handle trash, recycling, and compost so as to minimize the possibility of black bear visits. Follow those rules so as to avoid a penalty fees of $50.00 if trash, recycling, and compost are not followed. A detailed message about trash, recycling, and compost practice will be sent to campers days before the booked trip. Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment on Brown rd across the camp entry road.

Enjoy the big view from the highest corner of the big field. This is a sweet little campsite set in a birch grove with a view to the Catskills, and lots of wildlife. Two minute walk from your car, and a five minute walk to a swimming pond and a composting toilet outhouse. Near Chatham, New York where there is a brewery, cheese shop, bakery, restaurants, and a movie theatre. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking and sightseeing opportunities. Our campsite lies on the beautiful two and a half century old LeFevre family farmstead with rich history and stunning views of the Shawangunk Mountain ridge. The property is on a 40-acre old apple orchard that is super private and filled with dramatic views and spectacular sunsets. Wake up in your tent to the sounds of birds chirping, roasters crowing and cows just close enough but just far enough way. On occasion there may be a person driving by to tend to the cattle.

Our campsite lies on the beautiful two and a half century old LeFevre family farmstead with rich history and stunning views of the Shawangunk Mountain ridge. The property is on a 40-acre old apple orchard that is super private and filled with dramatic views and spectacular sunsets. Wake up in your tent to the sounds of birds chirping, roasters crowing and cows just close enough but just far enough way. On occasion there may be a person driving by to tend to the cattle.

everything you’ll ever need for a cozy stay outdoors. we chose this spot because of the tiny shelter it afforded during what was going to be below freezing temps. The kitchen space and bed set up was much appreciated and allowed us to focus enjoying the stay itself. The owners were super helpful getting us setup and providing a welcoming space. Bring layers and everything you need to keep warm in the winters - we even caught a light snow storm on our morning of departure! would come back again.

My son and I really enjoyed camping on Mike's property. It was tucked away and quiet. Mike was very supportive and kept the firewood coming for the cold temperatures. The entrance comes up quickly, but Mike's directions were spot on. The hiking near the property was fantastic. Try Anthony's Nose; the hike was challenging, but the views were worth it.

This was perfect! We stayed for a night on a cool fall night. Lots of space, and included a picnic table and fire ring. The brewery was great (we were there on a Saturday) the portapotty is a bit of a walk from this particular site, but it wasn’t too bad! The farmers market was walkable, but also a short drive. Be sure to check out the farmers market while you are there! Would definitely stay again.

Phoenix Landing is the optimal camping spot for my partner and I (and cat). Though it was just the two of us, we had no issues with the camp site and felt very safe in the area. We decided to camp out there while enjoying Halloween festivities along the Hudson. The forest/stream, on the property is beautiful and there are many trails to explore. We brought our cat who loves walking outdoors on a harness & leash - we stayed very vigilant with her, but thankfully the most we encountered was a buck during our trip (1st week of Nov.). Mike's directions are very thorough and clear - DEFINITELY read his instructions for finding the property at first. He also provides a lot of supplies if needed, especially firewood for a small cost. Communication with him was also very pleasant and easy. We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it by 1 more day 😊. Overall, we look forward to staying at Phoenix Landing again in the near future. NOTE: Needing a 4x4/ AWD vehicle is absolutely necessary to climb the property if choosing not to walk. We arrived in absolute pouring rain and thankfully our Land Cruiser had no issue. The climb / descent is definitely very fun, but if you have no experience with off-roading, it may be a bit difficult. Take it slow. Cheers! Thank you again Mike, and hope to stay again. 😸😸😸

Muddy View- A 2 acre, half wooded lot that is located in the rolling hills of New Kingston, NY, just 10 minutes away from Margarettville. As the name implies, there can be a fair amount of water on the property if it rains, but if you look around, there are spots that are not so muddy and make a nice campsite. The property has a home on it, and the campsites are on the backside of the property. There is a fire pit on a cleared section for tenting if you'd like. If the weather is nice it gives great views of the mountain across the valley during the day, and hopefully a clear sky at night filled with stars. WiFi is available, please ask for the current password if you'd like to connect. It's very fast ( upload and download ) and the signal is strongest near to the home. Signal is intermittent by campsites. You can use electrical plugs on the exterior of the home if you'd like.

Easy entry off a quiet well maintained country road in the town of Conesville, NY. Sitting on 5 acres you will notice the beautiful views of the Catskill Mountains. Feel free to hike the entire property. Hike down the gorge approximately 80ft to the seasonal mountain fed creek. You will find massive boulders, and various artifacts as this property was once a mining operation dating back to the early 1920s. Be mindful of partially fallen trees on the hillside along the south end. It’s a steep hike down so get your hiking poles and good boots. The north end is an easier hike. If you find any cool artifacts they are yours to keep or just leave them and we will add them to the display for the new cabin. Check out the iconic ‘57 Chevy Bel Air halfway down the gorge. With your stay we are offering 20% off your cabin stay when it becomes available. 20 minutes to Windham, Minekill State Park and Bates State Forest(down the road.) Great access to the Roaring Kill Trailhead and to the Devil's Path Hiking Trail. If you're looking for some water activities take a short drive to Colgate Lake. Site guidelines Do be careful driving on the dirt jeep track out to the camp. Don't miss swimming in the Roaring Kill Falls. Do leave the campsite just as you found it. "Don't feed the bears." Named during the pandemic, "Camp COVID Site 19" was born out of our desire to camp, as we weren't able to go camping anywhere! This camp is the back half of our property, located in the village of Tannersville. Camp is divided from our personal yard by a fence. The camp is also completely fenced in once the driveway gates are closed, allowing your pets to safely be off leash if you wish! A long stone driveway leads to camp, with a flat spot to park your skoolie, motorhome, or vehicle. There is a creek running along the entire back side of our property, outside of the fenced in area, which you can access by walking a few feet though the gates under the Camp COVID sign. We have a new bon fire pit in the center of camp, and fires are allowed as long as there is no burn ban in effect. Firewood is on site, and can be added on for $10 per night. We have 2 water hook ups and one 15 amp electric hook up on site, we just ask that you do not run an A/C unit as it will trip our main breaker. There is a dump station at North South Lake State Park and Campground only minutes away in Haines Falls. Instructions and rules are posted in the bath house which has an on demand hot water shower and a composting toilet. There is a garbage can for your convienece which is located in the shed which must be kept closed to avoid black bears visiting! There is a covered dried in area to the left of the shed. We have a half barrel charcoal grill with a flat top griddle as well as several grill grates. One of the grill grates also fits over the fire pit if you prefer fire cooking! There is an RV on site that will not be occupied during your stay, please do not enter, thank you! Come and stay and say hi!

Our farm is just 6 miles from the village, Bovina Center. Bovina Center is close to Roxbury, Margaretville, Andes, Delhi, Stamford, and Hobart all great places to explore for galleries, bookstores, restaurants, antiques, happenings, fairs and festivals. In Bovina Center we have a destination restaurant, Brushland, a general store, Russels, a new local brewery, Bovina Farm and Fermentory. There is hiking right from our town, on Bramley Mountain that's 2,812 feet. The elevation at Meanwhile Back At The Farm is 2030 feet. We have a very nice walk right from the tent sites, on our dirt road. Its a 3 mile loop. If you want to bicycle on the dirt road, a mountain bike is recommended. Of course you are welcome to stay put! Sit, read, meditate, sleep, do yoga or other mind/body practices on our open-air yoga platform, Nandi Yoga Pavilion. It was a cinderblock extension of the cow barn. We took it down and used the foundation for the pavilion.
