I am Karl and with my wife Danielle together we own 15 acres of peacefully settled forest on the edge of over 10,000 acres of State Forest land. It is on a seasonal road. I have no registered address, but a small sign marks my access road as Jacob Lane. This is a tribute to my friends. The Amish that helped me build our off-grid cabin. It is very quiet here, but we are an active homestead and work starts at 9am every day, we do our best to be considerate and ask the same from you. The forest rangers and DEC officers that patrol here keep a tight rein on the forest and its preservation. We have one guest cabin and several places a tent or RV can park. There are no hookups. Please bring some potable water. We do have spring water available but it's a drive. I first came here about 15 years ago. I would like to try and see if others would enjoy what we have made our lives. I do like to talk and although I don't lie, stretching the truth is an artform I have perfected so be prepared. There is a state-run beach and picnic area about 3 minute drive away on the Hinkley Reservoir. And a few other bodies of water to kayak and fish. We have Kayaks for use at an extra cost. We are about 15 to 20 minutes away from the Herkimer Diamond Mines. You can bike, hike, nature watch or just enjoy the peacefulness of the tree you chose to sit against. Down and ready firewood is everywhere if you want to bend over and pick it up. You can possess firearms on the property, but you may not discharge one without prior approval unless it's to save your life or that of another. There are places not far away that you can legally shoot and enjoy yourself. There are traditional outhouses on the property and for those that know how cat holing is allowed. Ask if unsure. No dumping tanks or portable toilets anywhere and that includes the outhouses. The state of New York has facilities at campgrounds that do a proper job with that type of waste. If you stop by, I will see you. If not go find what you seek and enjoy what has been created for everyone to pursue. Happiness. Peace be with you. Karl and Danielle

The fall, cool crisp days and changing leaves are just a few short weeks away. NOW is the time to book your experience with us. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal. All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries. Waterfall Sanctuary & Quiet Retreat

8. Waterfall Sanctuary & Quiet Retreat

For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

Although far and few between, New York still has some hidden gems. And with its winding roads and dense forests, Bowman Lake State Park is considered one of them. The parks namesake, Bowman Lake, is 35 acres and is the center of pretty much all activity. And that’s a lot! You’ll find beach swimming, remarkable fishing (trout are regularly stocked), and several hikes, the most popular being a loop around the ol’ lake. Campgrounds are roomy, secluded, and shady--so if you aren’t feeling up for much, hanging out in a hammock by the fire is perfectly acceptable. With more than 650 wooded and wild acres, Bowman Lake State Park is well worth a visit.

A great spot to come and camp high up on a hill. Pitch a tent and enjoy the solitude of camping in the middle of a hay field, under a huge oak tree. In the middle of farm country. From time to time you may smell a little cow smell or hear/see a tractor drive past.  However, there is nothing greater than the smell of fresh cut hay in the summer breeze. Deer graze in the fields surrounding the house.

Nestled in the Helderberg Hills, sits a campsite on Cotton Hill. This is the perfect site for fishing, swimming, creek walking, fossil hunting, mountain views, star gazing, and just relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. We are close to award-winning breweries, wineries, historic sites, farmers markets, restaurants, and shopping. We have several accessible hiking trails with great views nearby. We can't wait to welcome you to our private slice of heaven. There are 21 acres for you to discover with 10 acres in front, and 11 acres of woods with a meandering creek as the border. You can think of this land as your land for the duration of your stay. Respect the land and tent as you would your own. Squish your toes into the earth and breathe in the wild thyme-filled grassy trails. Go for a walk in the woods. Take a deep breath. Relax and recharge! The pebble beach at the pond allows for a gradual entry and goes to 16 feet deep in the middle. Feel free to swim on out to the floating dock. We love jumping in. There are many fish in the pond, most of them are large mouth bass. You may use our canoe, but please wear a life jacket if you are not a confident swimmer. (*Swimming is at your own risk!) The ‘Fossil Creek Trail’ leads down through the woods from the pond area to the slate bed creek. (*Please watch your footing on the trail- some is quite uneven.) There are many amazing fossils to find if you look in the creek bed during the dryer season. The woods are cooler and bug free, perfect for sitting and relaxing with a book or picnic. There are several mowed trails that wind around the pond and then back up to the Tent.

Welcome to The Cabin at Jack’s Hill - a simple, serene, low grid cabin far away from it all. This seasonal, cozy cabin is ideal for small groups to enjoy the splendor of the Western Catskills. Here you can connect with nature on six lovely acres perfect for star gazing. Gather round the firepit or cozy up on the covered deck while watching the fireflies. Inside this unassuming one room cabin is a full size stove, fridge, sink, and dining table. Enjoy a restful, quiet sleep on the plush Queen bed fitted with luxurious bamboo sheets. An additional pillow topped Queen bed is available in the sleeper sofa making this the quintessential spot for up to four guests. Our cabin is remote yet close to many nearby attractions including hiking, skiing, public access fishing along the Delaware, shopping, dining, adventure, and more. As this is a low grid, ecologically minded property it is important to note the following: * There is no running water available, washing water and drinking water are provided. * A clean outhouse is provided with a composting toilet. * We provide an outdoor shower during the warmer months only. The shower utilizes non potable rain water and the amount of water available is dependent on the weather. A mini electric hot water heater will provide roughly 5-8 minutes of use. * A woodstove with an automatic damper is the only source of heating in the cabin and requires an understanding of how to use it effectively. Guests will be provided an informational video of how to build a fire as well as the operation manual from the manufacturer. Guests should arrive accordingly as it may take time to warm the cabin. * A window A/C unit is provided in the summer months. * You will be residing in an area backing up to woods and next to open fields. As such you may encounter various wildlife like: insects, spiders, raccoons, birds, bees, mice, voles, chipmunks , squirrels, skunks, foxes, deer, coyotes, groundhogs, wild turkey, quail, and more. If you are squeamish about any wildlife encounters during your stay this is not the place for you. These creatures reside in nature and we have no control over them. We do not provide any refund if you encounter wildlife during your stay. * There is no wifi or television, and cell service is minimal.

Guests will be provided an informational video of how to build a fire as well as the operation manual from the manufacturer. Guests should arrive accordingly as it may take time to warm the cabin. * A window A/C unit is provided in the summer months. * You will be residing in an area backing up to woods and next to open fields. If you are squeamish about any wildlife encounters during your stay this is not the place for you. These creatures reside in nature and we have no control over them.
