Spring, Summer and Fall are the best times to come for a visit. NOW is the time to book your experience with us. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well.
The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years.
Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal.
All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries.

For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka.
Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups.
It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below.
The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls.
Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside
At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water.
This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty!
Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log.
The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by.
Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

We are 107 acres of forest, a 9
acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a
2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains.
500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time.
Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land.
Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site.
There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail
and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has
trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing,
Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful.
We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet.
There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city.
Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. Links and information can be provided to campers that stay with us that are looking for entertainment & excursions.

We live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. We have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. We share our experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by July 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to four people to participate at one price. Also, my wife makes soaps, potions and lotions under the Dragonfly Gypsy logo. These normally, only available at shows or Etsy, are now available in limited quantities here at the homestead at a guest only reduced price. She uses mostly natural oils, tallow and ingredients sourced from the local Swartzentrubber Amish Comunity that surrounds us. It is known to be one of the most conservative Old Order Amish Communities in the country. Many are consider our very close friends. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the off gissues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a short time. That is still our main purpose. * We provide an outdoor shower during the warmer months only. The shower utilizes non potable rain water and the amount of water available is dependent on the weather. A mini electric hot water heater will provide roughly 5-8 minutes of use.
* A woodstove with an automatic damper is the only source of heating in the cabin and requires an understanding of how to use it effectively. Guests will be provided an informational video of how to build a fire as well as the operation manual from the manufacturer. Guests should arrive accordingly as it may take time to warm the cabin.
* A window A/C unit is provided in the summer months.
* You will be residing in an area backing up to woods and next to open fields. As such you may encounter various wildlife like: insects, spiders, raccoons, birds, bees, mice, voles, chipmunks , squirrels, skunks, foxes, deer, coyotes, groundhogs, wild turkey, quail, and more. If you are squeamish about any wildlife encounters during your stay this is not the place for you.
These creatures reside in nature and we have no control over them. We do not provide any refund if you encounter wildlife during your stay.

Weekend Trip to Waterfall Sanctuary & Quiet Retreat
This was the perfect spot for our “down the road from home” getaway night! Listing descriptions of the cabin, amenities, and directions were clear and accurate. The cabin and campsite area were serenely simple, private, and comfortable making it easy to relax into “just being.” The most special part of this place is the access to the waterfall— as the listing makes clear, it’s definitely a steep deer trail that requires care on the part of the camper to hike down & back safely. As a Schoharie County local, the waterfall on the property is such a gem that we were so happy to have access to and to see taken care of well. Our only suggestion would be to remove the big rock wedged between trees in the middle of the trail headed down to the cabin for safety. Oh! Absolutely my favorite Hipcamp I’ve been to. The cabin was super clean. The amenities (outlets, chairs, blankets, pillows, lamps, nightstands) in the cabin were luxurious. The screens of the windows and door were all well secured. The hike to the waterfall is steep but not difficult if careful!!! We loved every second and amy is a great host :)

We had such a wonderful stay at this little cabin on a farm ✨ We had a completely private area all to ourselves, with a little stream nearby that our daughter loved to play in.
Denise and Tom were wonderful hosts. They made sure everything we could possibly need was taken care of. We also arranged to have several meals there, and the farm fresh food was absolutely delicious, better than any restaurant in town.
We booked a farm tour, and Denise shared so much information with us. It was such an educational and meaningful experience. My daughter absolutely fell in love with the animals and spent so much time exploring and asking questions. Denise was incredibly patient and kind with her the entire time 🥹
The cabin itself was incredibly clean, charming, and cozy. We originally planned to camp in a tent outside, but ended up sleeping in the cabin the entire stay because it felt so warm and comfortable.
The setting was beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. We left feeling refreshed and so grateful for the experience. Such a special place for families looking to slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a peaceful farm stay🫶🏼

Weekend Trip to Waterfall Sanctuary & Quiet Retreat
We had a wonderful time camping on Amy's land. Everything was as described in the listing. There was a mix up where the campers before us went to the incorrect cabin and Amy was responsive and kind when sorting it out. The cabin was clean and smelled good, like fresh wood. We appreciated the carts supplied to help transport supplies to the site, and the cooking supplies supplied in the community room helped us out too. It rained one day which made it hard to cook outside but we were able to use the microwave to warm things and the coffee pot to heat up water. We also had a great hike at Vromans Nose which was 10 min away from the site. The trail to the waterfall is steep but the falls are worth the challenge. A local cutie pie kitty cat visited us when the weather was nice which was a joy. We are already looking into when we can come to the area next!

My husband and I were looking for someplace quiet and private to relax and unwind. Karl lives on the property behind the cabin and welcomed us with a burning fire. Even with Karl on the property directly behind us, the cabin faced out into the forest and felt very private. We saw Karl one time when he stopped to ask if we needed anything. We came prepare to camp in a rustic cabin and were pleasantly surprised when we walked in to find we really didn’t need much. There was a camp stove and all of the cook wear and utensils, along with dishes, cups and silverware. Karl and is wife have really put thought into every detail. It didn’t bother us a bit when the nights were cold and the first night rained hard. We found a heater and Yahtzee game inside to keep us warm and content. I really can’t think of one way they could improve. Karl was very friendly. We didn’t get the pleasure of meeting his wife but maybe next time because we definitely plan to visit again. Thank you Karl.

Stayed at the shack for two days with my dogs. Enjoyed my time so much! Lots of privacy and so much land for my dogs to run. First night it poured, the sound of the rain while laying in bed made the shack even more cozy. Will be coming back! Jan is such a sweet host!

We had a fantastic trip thanks to the site being fantastic, and Sam being a wonderful host! There was an unforeseen issue early on and Sam was quick to immediately get my wife and I on a different site without us having to reschedule, no questions asked. Not to mention the grounds themselves are close enough to stores/other outings if you need anything. I would return again in a heartbeat.

10/10 u should stay here. i usually dont even like glamping/cabins because i would rather just camp but this was very worth it. the cabin is isolated enough to feel like you are alone you dont even really notice other ppl are staying on the property. its the perfect size for a couple and we stayed with our cat too. the bathtub was so nice and having a covered bbq and pantry outside makes everything really easy. if you want to be outdoors/in nature but straight camping in the northeast winter/cold/stormy season is too much for you this is perfect. Sam is great and was always around if we had a issue or needed help with something. he let us pit fire some ceramics as well which was a blessing.

We had the loveliest stay at this Hipcamp cabin last weekend. It was unbelievably cozy and warm inside, even with the temperature dropping to -1 degrees outside — the perfect little winter retreat. The hot tub was absolutely amazing, especially under the cold night air, and quickly became our favorite part of the stay.
Sam was such a kind and welcoming host, making us feel comfortable and taken care of from start to finish. You can really tell how much care goes into this place. We left feeling relaxed, happy, and already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, magical getaway

We absolutely loved this A frame house! It was so cozy and magical. Our host Sam was amazing, he is so sweet and had everything set up and ready for us. He was also very quick to respond when we texted him with some questions. The heat inside the house works so well, the fire and hot tub outside were incredible as well. The cabin was the perfect size for my fiancé and me! We enjoyed cooking over the fire pit and hiking down to the river and waterfall. It was quite cold while we were there but the space heater really did the job when turned on to max for a couple hours, we even had to shed a couple blankets! Would definitely return, especially in the warmer months to cross the river and see the waterfall up close. The only heads up is that the bathroom is a short walk up a small hill to a port-a-potty. Amy was helpful and the directions were clear! The free kindling was much appreciated.

Incredible experience! Sam made everything so easy and relaxing, from the pre-arrival instructions to seeing us off when we left. The waterfall is a standout feature and we’d love to return in the warmer months.
