While we are in a rural area, you will be 10 min north of the town of Espanola and 5 min from the Ohkay Owingeh rest stop (with a great El Parasol Norte takeaway restaurant- don't miss their tacos!). It's easy to run to Espanola's Wal-Mart, Lowes or other stores if you forgot anything or need to purchase supplies. In terms of the campsite, our 5 acre property is a narrow agricultural strip that extends from the irrigation acequia (ditch) at the top of the dirt road down into a dense bosque (forest), ending in a path to the Rio Grande. The campsite is in the bosque (forest) a little distance from our house in the privacy of the cottonwoods and elms. At this time we do not have other campsites sharing the space so you will be camping by yourself and have the bathroom to yourself. It is a short walk from the camp to the Rio Grande where you'll find stairs to the river. The river is wade-able in the late summer but in winter/spring the currents are strong and not advisable for young children or non-swimmers. You and your family are welcome to walk back to our farm to interact with goats, chickens, and our friendly dogs, use the playground, or swing on the large swing by the pond. This property is at its best Summer through mid Fall when all is green, the pond is full and river is calmer. Winter camping is still doable but may include snow, a frozen pond, and leafless trees, as well as visiting sandhill cranes. The site is spacious, has a firepit with a cover. We can supply wood if you need it (just text us). In summer we have mosquitos being so close to river so come prepared with some serious sprays or creams- citronella candles and herbal stuff won't be effective here. You will have a lot of privacy in the bosque, and it is relatively quiet from urban noise. But you will be in agricultural country, so you will hear sounds of roosters, horses, goats, peacocks as well as our neighbors doing their thing in the farm land all around you. There can be dogs barking so if any of this noise bothers you at night you will want to bring earplugs.

Most people have no problem finding my place by entering my address in their GPS. However, I have had 2 HipCampers report their GPS directed them to a road called Camino de las Brisas or Las Brisas Loop. Turning here will lead you to a steep, dangerous road where it will be very difficult to turn around if you're in an RV and impossible with a trailer. Continue on Camino de Las Huertas to Senda Osa Vieja. It's marked with a street sign, a stone monument with brass plate. There's also a blue "private road" sign with a dragon. This land was purchased in 1956 by my archeologist parents because of the ancient pueblo site (dating from 1000 A.D.) and pit house sites (dating from 800 A.D.) Until the mega drought seriously impacted the land, a stream ran through it year round. Now it is only intermittent. Across the valley from this property, and within view of the campsite, is the site of a Spanish Colonial village, San Jose de las Huertas. It dates from the 1700s and is now owned by the Archeological Conservancy. This area is rich in history both Native American and Spanish. Learn more about this land: Located in the high desert 20 minutes from Albuquerque and 40 minutes from Santa Fe. Views of Sandia mountains, and near historic archeological sites. Within a 10 minute drive are popular mountain biking trails. Petroglyphs are a 20 minute, moderately strenuous hike from property. Very peaceful, quiet and safe. I offer dog sitting while you soak at Ojo, healing modalities that you'll find in the Extras section, and my dear neighbor Jackie takes appointments for massages with homemade essential oils. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away. *No cell service in the greater area. WiFi reaches around the house/deck and allows for WiFi Calling: that’s a setting in your phone that enables phone calls & texts beside usual internet access.

Pristine camping along a small creek. Flat area surrounded by mountains and cottonwoods. Hiking is along the acequia, across the creek or you can actually hike in the creek, as the water runs underground shortly past my property. There are also many places to hike west of my property along Rosa Castilla. Wild horses roam all over the BLM land and along the creek. Desert area, 6000" elevation, so very dry and must be excectionally careful about fires. Only in provided grills . There is abundant wood that you can use for free, but put all coals out and you can use the creek water, when it is there. REMEMBER this is the desert!!I would like to book a 3 month visit from January 1st-April 1st with free water. You need to provide your own electricity, but solar would be an excellent option as sites are on south facing, so panels would work well. I would like to trade a discount for help on the farm during this time. $5.00 a day disount, plus the water. You would be the only one booked during this time, so very quiet and private for long term winter stay!!

Riverside camping with beautiful views.. Tent camp directly on the riverbank below for a private paradise. Car camping up top can get noisy depending on Hwy traffic. This spot is magical for swimming, fishing and watching wildlife. Catch and release fishing only please. 110v and 50amp 240v plugin are available. There is a drinking water spigot as well as a trash receptacle on site. There are no bathroom facilities here yet. The parking area will accommodate camper vans and small trailers. Large RV’s aren’t able to fit in our small parking area. If you love the river and enjoy seeing wildlife this spots for you.

The location and convenience of the spot can't be beat. We ran into a bit of an issue with muddy conditions trying to get into the parking spot but it sounds like thats very irregular. The view is beautiful and had it not poured rain, the fire pit would have been lovely! For sure on my list of places to revisit. Thanks for the hospitality Ben.

Very cute little place. Nice private location, but easy to find. Pat is very kind. There were a few things in the Silo that didn't work upon arrival. Pat brought in the maintenance man, but was unable to fix them during our stay. Thanks for putting in the effort. The bed is very firm but we found it very comfortable. Well stocked kitchen and linens situation. Porches are really nice for enjoying the views. We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful spot. Was extremely quiet, peaceful and beautiful. With this spot, you will get the view of the sunset through the trees pretty much every single day. I am a writer and business owner, and this provided a really great inspirational spot for me! Highly recommend! When I went, the owner had just poured in new loose gravel, so leveling for my 28ft trailer was a bit tough, but if you bring ample equipment, very doable!

Ben and his campsites were great!! Super hospitable, easy communication and he did everything to make sure we had a great time! Sites are level and close to hookups for easy connection. He even made a pull-through pathway for one of the sites so we could easily drop the camper and go drive around the woods! Beautiful area, lots of great backroads, and a super safe neighborhood. We even had deer browsing outside our camper right at Ben’s sites!!! Great experience, highly recommend, both for the RV hookup sites (which I used) as well as his tent sites, which looked great. Thanks Ben!!

This was my second stay at the same site, and it was just as magical and fantastic as the first one! Diana's communication was clear and helpful. The amenities such as bathroom, kitchen shed and hot tub were all kept clean and in great shape. And last but not least, the area where the property is located is JUST so amazingly beautiful and peaceful, with fall colors still adding more charm. I look forward to another stay!

The camper is super cozy and has beautiful views. There is a stovetop, sink, and composting toilet inside the camper – and a great outdoor seating area outside. It was chilly in late October, so Kate set me up with lots of thick blankets and I stayed very warm! Kate is open and welcoming but also gave me my privacy. Great stay!

My stay at the year on the Mesa top totally exceeded my expectations. Kate was there to greet me and show me around and really has put many magical touches on the place. There was everything I need to cook, do dishes, even take an outdoor shower. I came in late fall, and while it was cold at night, the propane heater was toasty. And the bedding was amazing, so I didn’t even need the heater when I slept. The views and the stars and the location are unparalled. I would definitely come back!
