The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country.
We have 8 Sites to choose from. (No large RVs at 4, 7 or 8) Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Free potable water is available as well as a portable toilet.
For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a cast iron grill. Every site (but 7) has a standing charcoal grill, with tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. We hang a hand washing jug at every site for your convenience, with potable water, but do not suggest this for drinking water source.
The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. The springs converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch.
We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 2 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion.
We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others.
I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible.
We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can.
And as always, Veterans, LEOs, and Fire Fighters are always free for one night up to 4 guests. Just book your reservation, and show us your ID during your stay, and we will reimburse you for your last night with us.

From U.S. Highway 550 (mile marker 112.5), you will see the National Park sign, drive south on County Road 7900 for 5 miles.
After 5 miles (the road comes to a “T”) you will see another National Park sign, on the right hand side. Turn right on County Road 7950. You cannot turn left. (If you go straight, that will take you to Pueblo Pintado).
Drive 3 miles on County Road 7950. The pavement will end. On the right hand side you will see a sign that says "Dry Camp".
THE CAMPGROUND IS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. There will be a sign that reads: “Horsethief Campground”. In front of the short road to the Campground.
At the end of the short road to the campground is: a large portable building, and 2 other buildings. We apologize that the road is a little uneven, but we are looking to improve this real soon. You are welcome to park inside or outside the gated area.
Horse-Thief Campground is an upcoming camp; located on 5 acres of land and more, for campers to enjoy. In a quiet; serene, beautiful landscape area of the Dine Nation.
With beautiful sunrises; sunsets and night sky is out of this world. There are trails in which visitors may walk or bike, as well as a Look Out Point. Horse-Thief is currently a Dry Camp with no Electricity or running water however generators are welcome. There is one portable restroom.
P.S. If you have already paid on Hipcamp, you do not need to pay again. However, please sign the Waiver provided. With the war going on across the country and gas prices on the rise; if you we would like to save a little money instead of making a reservation on Hipcamp, you can pay for the fees upon arrival with cash, check or Zelle. We are a dry dispersed campground with plenty of room.

This charming land has been in the family since my husband was a young boy. The Indian ruins and artifacts fascinated him then and he is still happy to share this history with whoever shows an interest. With all the improvements made by his father and family through the years, you will also learn to have a love for the history and beauty here on this unique 30-acre treasure.
You can explore Native American ruins that were inhabited by some 2,000 people between 700-1100 AD. The grounds are wonderful to walk with a little lake which draws elk, deer, hawks, blue herons, etc.
Easy to access just 3 minutes off I-25. We are 5 minutes away from the Pecos Natl Monument and 15 minutes away from the Pecos River with plenty of great fishing spots ;Visit Santa Fe (20-minute drive) or Las Vegas (30-minute drive) with dozens of restaurants, museums, art galleries, etc.

San Juan Quality Waters in the San Juan River offers world class fishing. The Animas River offers fun river floats. Chaco Canyon National Park is only 2 hours away.
In Colorado, we are about an hour from these attractions: Mesa Verde National Park, McPhee Reservoir, Canyon of the Ancients, Lake Nighthorse Day Use Recreation area, Chimney Rock and Purgatory Ski Resort. La Plata Canyon has great mountain hiking and is only 30 minutes away.

Lush high desert river oasis on three acres, nestled in a fertile valley in Carson National Forest, right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful, private and serene land right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives.
At the moment we have three options 1) Cosy & nestled Vintage Camper that can be heated, with kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. 2) As well as a Gazebo Tree shaded campsite for tents only, with fire pit, outdoor seating and the tranquil sounds of the gently flowing river in the background. 3) If you would like to bring your own camper/or tent we have a willow brush enclosed meadow with stunning views. Some campsites have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house, others have private outhouses. We offer dog sitting so you can relax at the Hot Springs- check out the Extras.
*** Right by the river, held by a BLM ridge (makes for amazing sunset hikes), we have a tent campsite for several people that will be available once our bridge is finished- est. end of April '26. As well as a Gypsy Wagon with electric, water and kitchen.
My partner (senior therapist at Ojo Hot Springs) offers private massages that you'll find in the Extras.
+++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild with lots of bird sounds. It is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.
With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.
*No cell service in the greater area. Wifi available around the house for calling and texting.

Diamondback rattlesnakes, black widow spiders, quail, rabbits, and the rare horned lizard all call our land their habitat. Stay alert! Issues with wildlife are very rare; any concerns will immediately be handled by host.
Your Camp Host, Chef Üdø, is onsite most days and evenings, and has 30 years' experience in the catering and private chef biz, and as a camp host. He's happy to coordinate hot meals for you and your companions! No more need to go into town to get a pizza or some icky fast food! We will make you a homemade pizza, dry-aged steak, brined chicken, smoked Wagyu burger, or lasagna...all in-house. Vegan, vegetarian, kosher, low-sodium, and most other dietary restrictions are no problem! Contact Chef Üdø for more details and please check out our menu in the “Extras” section of our campsite listing. We can make just about anything in our sanitary kitchen facilities. Chef Üdø maintains current local food handler's certification, as well as HAACP federal certification. Prices are friendly and competitive with local restaurants. Vacuum-sealed frozen meals, aka “sous vide” available for most recipes.

I am just getting set up with hipcamp and don’t have much to offer beyond a beautiful camping spot on private property, on the very best of the Taos Mesa.
I am currently very busy finishing the construction of my home, and work out here almost daily. I sometimes have visitors and work exchange staying on the property, but you will have a private and separate area to park and camp. (Please note that that there are no bathroom facilities available, so please come prepared with your own set up). If you are interested in earthen building construction or off-grid-life, I am happy to talk with you about it if time allows.

It was the perfect place for us, and the closest place to Chaco Historical Park that we could find. There are some washboard roads to contend with but we had the place to ourselves for the most part, couple more campers pulled in at night. It will be hard to find clearer night skies. Wow! What stars!

I didn't actually stay at Horse Thief Campground... I lucked out and got a first come space in the park and I grabbed it because I didn't want to do the road out and back to the park. Horse Thief is 13 miles from the park just where the blacktop ends. It isn't the prettiest campground and it is a dry camp, but other than the park, there is nothing for 40 miles. If you can't get a place in the park, it is a basic no frills alternative. Gallo campground in the park is prettier, but not many more amenities than Horse Thief.

Loved that we could see both sunrise and sunset from our spot. We didn’t need to use the porta-potty but it was handy. Dry camp is easy
to access. Less than 1/4 mile on gravel to reach their driveway. Our 2nd best option for proximity to Chaco Canyon as we were too late to reserve in the campground there. Friendly host.

The gazebo spot was lovely — quiet, soft and grassy. I slept in the gazebo in my sleeping bag and got up a few times to enjoy the stars. The little river was charming, with hammocks and chairs in a clearing. As an added bonus their metal fire pit was a decent size and worked great (I might get one for myself)

Chef Udo is an exceptionally warm and attentive host. The site was beautiful and convenient to White Sands. The stars were breathtaking and the sunrise views of the mountains were just as gorgeous.

I loved camping on Wayne and Yolanda's land! The secluded desert surroundings were beautiful, clean and we had all the land to ourselves. The spot we chose had a fire ring and made our experience just perfect. The starry night sky was truly an unforgettable experience! The location was easy to get to and just 25 min away to Chaco National Park entrance. Will definitely come again!!!

Chaco Canyon had been on my bucket list for a long time and this was a great location to stay and tent camp when Gallo Campground was full. It was private, clean, flat and no hassle. It was honestly the quietest campground I have ever stayed in. The roads getting in were easy, the property was well maintained and it was 35 minutes from Chaco Canyon. I read some of the other reviews for this spot and frankly the negative ones are inaccurate. If you have a complaint about this campsite you should just get a hotel.

My husband and I spent the weekend tent camping on the rv/tent site. We were the only ones. Quiet, dark and secluded. Clean bathhouse. Entire site is clean and well maintained ❤️ We saw ducks, deer and elk. There are turkeys above the tree-line. You can hear them, but we never saw the turkeys.

I had a fantastic stay at Tara’s “camp” spot. It’s a beautiful home with everything you need, minus a shower. Huge sink in the kitchen with HOT water sufficed for one night. 😉
The bed was super comfortable and I slept like a baby! Bonus!!~ while using the potty early in the morning (yes, there is a toilet!) I was thrilled to see a llama in the backyard!
Tara was very responsive, friendly and made me feel very welcome.
I would definitely stay again, thank you Tara!!

Great spot. Very private. Saw pronghorn. Previous campers may have left food because there were a lot of ants by the firepit and we had to move the firepit rocks to a different spot. There was also a lot of dog poop from previous inconsiderate campers who didn't bother to clean up after themselves.

Great spot! Tent site was quiet and flat, composting toilet was clean and pleasant. Food was fantastic as well, highly recommend the cookies. Overall welcoming and friendly environment, I would 100% come back.
