From U.S. Highway 550 (mile marker 112.5), you will see the National Park sign, drive south on County Road 7900 for 5 miles.
After 5 miles (the road comes to a “T”) you will see another National Park sign, on the right hand side. Turn right on County Road 7950. You cannot turn left. (If you go straight, that will take you to Pueblo Pintado).
Drive 3 miles on County Road 7950. The pavement will end. On the right hand side you will see a sign that says "Dry Camp".
THE CAMPGROUND IS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. There will be a sign that reads: “Horsethief Campground”. In front of the short road to the Campground.
At the end of the short road to the campground is: a large portable building, and 2 other buildings. We apologize that the road is a little uneven, but we are looking to improve this real soon. You are welcome to park inside or outside the gated area.
Horse-Thief Campground is an upcoming camp; located on 5 acres of land and more, for campers to enjoy. In a quiet; serene, beautiful landscape area of the Dine Nation.
With beautiful sunrises; sunsets and night sky is out of this world. There are trails in which visitors may walk or bike, as well as a Look Out Point. Horse-Thief is currently a Dry Camp with no Electricity or running water however generators are welcome. There is one portable restroom.
P.S. If you have already paid on Hipcamp, you do not need to pay again. However, please sign the Waiver provided. With the war going on across the country and gas prices on the rise; if you we would like to save a little money instead of making a reservation on Hipcamp, you can pay for the fees upon arrival with cash, check or Zelle. We are a dry dispersed campground with plenty of room.

Returning to Bear Springs for a second year says it all. We stayed here again with our children and had another wonderful experience. The setting is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by mountains and nature, offering a peaceful sense of privacy while still being conveniently located near many of the area’s attractions and outdoor activities.
The campground feels safe, welcoming, and family-friendly. Our kids loved the outdoor space, and we appreciated having a place where we could unwind while still having easy access to everything we wanted to explore in and around Durango.
Michael is a wonderful host. He is attentive, responsive, and genuinely cares about his guests’ experience. Throughout our stay, he made sure everything was perfect and that we had everything we needed.

Just a note the hookup is 50amp I believe and my van takes 30 hookup plug so I would have needed to bring an adapter to plug in here. Luckily my solar setup worked and we didn’t need elec this trip. Just plan ahead for your plug in needs before you go (totally my fault in failing to notice what kind of plug was on the site).

Everything is as advertised: views forever, easy access to town and its offerings and hosts are super attentive and very nice.
The property sits on a very prominent knob and the road up to the top, even though well built and excellently maintained, is steep. If you or your tow rig are faint of heart, this spot is not for you. We had no issues getting up there and situated but we were prepared.
Also note that if your black/gray water dump spout is on the driver side you will need to turn around to use it (dump hole is on your passenger side as you approach the parking spot.
Absolutely worth it once you get up there and situated. And worth staying more than one night!

We loved staying at Outdoorsy Bayfield. We had a trailer site on the little river, and then, when I got sick and our trailer needed longer service than expected, we got a glam tent. The glam tents are amazing with heat, a kitchen, and showers!
Pros:
Facilities were very clean, and the people were very friendly and accommodating.
Cons:
The campground is right off the road, and there is traffic noise, though much less at night.

Price was right for us at the time, nice facilities, nice creek, highway was a bit noisy. Be forewarned though as some of their employees are sticklers for their corporate rule mandate .
Not all were so rigid but at least two were.
Hopefully the hot tub / sauna will be up and running for you

Terrific! The spot is 10 minutes from Durango and far enough from the owners home that it felt private. And there are endless acres of forest for the dogs to explore. We had no problem accessing the site in our rwd Ford Transit. Verizon signal was adequate. Tree coverage made starlink useless.
